"In an effort to rebut the idea that allowing law-abiding Americans to carry handguns in public helps prevent crime, the Violence Policy Center has begun compiling a list of homicides committed by people with carry permits. ..." ...
"Let's say there are a total of 5 million permit holders in the U.S. (a conservative estimate), and let's say the actual number of homicides is 150, or twice the VPC's count. That's roughly 75 a year, or 0.00002 homicide per permit holder."

"Independence has a meaning which has been lost on many Americans. It is at the core of why Kalifornia is going bankrupt: lack of Independence from our public servants. Demagoguery and other official Potomac Fever endeavors to do too many things for the people, things which many of us knew should not have been done is the official's stock in trade. This fever compels greater dependency on government by way of excluding citizens from working things out for themselves. When they go against our wishes and better judgment, they take on a dictatorial cast to them, an all too familiar cast if you think of some recent European history." ... |

The implication that gun owners might be considered to be unfit parents have many people concerned.""'This is almost a profiling of adoptive parents,' said Marion Hammer, NRA Board member and Tallahassee gun rights lobbyist. 'They don't want to be profiled, they don't want to be treated differently because they choose to exercise a constitutional right.'" ...

"Anti-Second Amendment zealots wasted little time in exploiting the massacre of 13 people at Fort Hood by a gun-wielding loon. But there was also an array of sober, sane responses to the shooting as well -- responses that offered solutions, not ideologic diatribes, responses that say freedom, not repression, is the always the best answer."

By buying a small arsenal of assault weapons and handguns with cash at gun shows without Brady background checks - and with a hidden camera recording the transactions - Colin Goddard wanted to document how easy and unchecked it all was. His goal: to get Congress to close the loophole that allows many dangerous people to purchase dangerous weapons at gun shows without a Brady background check." ... -------

"Just how much clout does the gun lobby have on Capitol Hill? This week may prove to be a crucial test: A House-Senate conference committee is about to take up a massive transportation-funding bill that is pitting advocates of gun rights against security-minded members worried about the threat of terrorist attacks on Amtrak trains. ..." ... -------
Submitter's Note: It's hard to believe that this could have been written in a more biased fashion. It's a left wing editorial masquerading as "investigative reporting". Two gunmen came into Favor's Liquor Store on S. Walnut Street around 9:30 p.m. and ordered the clerk to give them the money in the register.
When the gunmen came around the counter to try to get the money themselves, the clerk opened fire, hitting one of the masked men, police said.
The man who was shot staggered out of the store and collapsed on the sidewalk. He died at the hospital. Police were using dogs to try to track down the second gunman, who fled. |
