NY: New York Race Puts Republicans At A Crossroads

An interesting thing happened on the way to the congressional election in New York's 23rd district. The Republican candidate, Dede Scozzafava, dropped out of the race.

This bodes well for the Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who, as it turns out happens to be a Republican who ran on a third party ticket against Scozzafava and the Democrat Bill Owens.

This is a fascinating race to watch, because it forces those in the Republican Party to take a hard look at what has become of the GOP. In the last few weeks, there has been a huge rift within the party between those supporting Hoffman, and the party loyalists who backed Scozzafava.

Im putting my money on the notion that there was at least one gay-rights group that didnt cheer when President Barack Obama signed the most recent hate crimes bill last week.

That would be the group known as the Pink Pistols. Theyre the one gay-rights group you can bet Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder and virtually every other liberal in the country have absolutely no use for, but more about it later.

...

That law was designed to make gays and lesbians feel good. It wont protect them. If they want protection, theyll have to sign up with a group formed for precisely that purpose. Im talking about my favorite gay rights group in the entire country, the Pink Pistols.

A Rowan County, NC man shot an armed intruder in self defense, saving himself and his father from a second violent home invasion that week.

Police and the homeowners say that on Monday of last week, armed robbers broke in and held the family at gunpoint, forcing them to hand over their valuables before fleeing. The homeowners reported the home invasion robbery to the police, and made sure that they would have shotguns on hand to defend themselves in the future. The robbers reportedly came back to the home on Friday of last week, and told the homeowner that they were going to kill him and his son for reporting the first robbery. After being beaten by a robber, the homeowner's son is said to have grabbed a shotgun...

The other man then pulled out a handgun and shot the man with the knife, she said.

Ive been a personal friend of Paul Nichols for quite some time. To say that he is not a defender of our Second Amendment right is an absolute joke. Paul is a member of the NRA and has always
supported the Second Amendment.

Despite what his opponent would have you think, Paul has never received an F from the NRA, but then again, this is coming from the campaign that will never give you the whole truth, so Im not
surprised in the slightest.

Aliquippa Mayor Anthony Battalini wants to give his citys police officers every possible tool available when it comes to stopping gun violence such as the recent shootings in the citys Plan 12 neighborhood.

And he said he thinks an ordinance that requires residents to report lost or stolen firearms might be a good way to do just that.

I have some questions about how it could be enforced, sure, Battalini said. But even if it gives our officers a heads-up about weapons that might be out there, it would have to help.

PA: Pennsylvania Court Race Could Have Critical Impact

The Pennsylvania Supreme Courts influence on issues involving gun control, same sex relationships and medical malpractice, to name a few, merits voters careful attention.

Though most public awareness of gun laws focuses on the national debate, the state supreme court defines the rights of Pennsylvanians in the first instance. In the 1996 case of Ortiz v. Commonwealth, for example, our Court decided that allowing municipalities, like Philadelphia, to enact their own gun control laws contradicted state law. The Court held that because the regulation of firearms affects the entire state, not just Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, the General Assemblynot city councilsshould set gun regulations.

The most recent high-profile case involved Zachary Christie, a 6-year-old who was suspended for five days on Sept. 29 after he brought a camping utensil that was part knife, fork and spoon to Downes Elementary in Newark, Del. School officials considered it a dangerous instrument and suspended the boy, adding that he couldn't return to Downes until he completed at least 45 days at an alternative school.

...

In Texas, state lawmakers this summer required school officials to consider intent, self-defense, past disciplinary history and whether the child has special needs before acting on cases where a student can be expelled or suspended.

I don't have a fantasy that I or any other law-abiding citizen is going to step into a drug gang's gun battle and disarm all the outlaws by shooting the guns out of their hands - Lone Ranger style. I do think that if gangs started coming under fire from law-abiding citizens whenever they decided to wage public gun battles, the survivors might become a little more circumspect about choosing their locations to start shooting.

David Codrea notes in his Oct. 24 examiner.com blog that both candidates for New York's 23rd Congressional District -- including one endorsed by the NRA -- have declined top answer his Gun Rights Political Questionnaire, which he filed with their campaigns "to see if it could be useful in further defining the level of understanding and commitment the candidates have for the right to keep and bear arms. I did, and let the campaigns know I would make their responses available to readers here."

But, no response.

How does it make you feel when you start to walk into a business and see a No Guns sign prominently posted? Are you angry? Offended? Indifferent?

How do you react? Do you just turn around and take your business elsewhere? Complain to the management? Just ignore it and go on with your business?

The members of the Virginia Citizens Defense League take No Guns signs as personally offensive and they let their offense be known to the business, to fellow VCDL members, and anyone else wholl listen or read a web page.

The State newspaper of Columbia reported Sunday that concealed weapons permits issued by the State Law Enforcement Division stood at 28,197 as of mid-October. That's up from 14,630 permits issued in all of 2008 and far outstrips the number of permits issued in previous years.

The newspaper, which researched concealed weapons permits, hunting licenses and FBI background checks done for firearms sales, also reported that the number of concealed weapon permits rose nearly equally among men and women between 2005 and 2008.

"My motto is walk lightly and carry a big stick," said Ed Strickland, concealed weapons permit instructor in Abbeville.

SC: Rise in permits means more informed owners

The number of new concealed weapons permits being issued has skyrocketed for South Carolina this year....

Thus far, SLED as issued more than 28,000 permits this year, and the figures show that along with the rise in permits, more people, particularly women, are purchasing handguns.

Its easy to argue that guns kill people, and that an increase in gun ownership jeopardizes public safety but that is just the problem, its too easy.

There are two different gun owners: those who go through the law and those who do not. It may seem simple enough, but too often people overlook this crucial distinction, and these statistics are not about the illegal purchasing of stolen handguns with no paper trail to hold anyone accountable.

Students all over the state of Michigan may soon be able to carry concealed weapons on campus. Bill 5474, introduced by Wayne Schmidt, R-Traverse City, to the Michigan House of Representatives, would prohibit colleges from banning weapons on campus.

Section two of the bill specifically outlines what local units of government and institutions of higher learning would not be able to do if the bill were passed.

...

Reid Smith, the Michigan director for concealedcampus.com, is in favor of students being allowed to carry weapons on campus. Students for Concealed Carry on Campus is an organization comprising over 40,000 individuals, with members in all 50 states.

Both past Attornies General, along with the current Republican nominee for Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, have all opposed banning private sales of guns at gun shows while supporting repeal of the Virginia ban on concealed carry in restaurants serving alcohol. But not Democratic AG nominee Steve Shannon this Northern Virginia lawyer is sticking to his gun control.
. . .
But what irks gun rights organizers the most is Shannons lack of any articulable policy rationale for his positions.
Insisting that we need to fix something that doesnt exist does not stir gun owners to support candidates said Philip Van Cleave, President of the Virginia citizens Defense League . . .

A crew member aboard a U.S. Navy ship accidentally fired a machine gun into the Polish port city of Gdynia on Wednesday while cleaning the weapon, Navy officials said Friday.

Three rounds were fired from an M240 machine gun into the town but no injuries or damage were reported, officials said.

The gun, aboard the USS Ramage, a Navy destroyer, is used to defend the ship in close combat.

Navy officials said a crew member was cleaning the weapon when it accidentally discharged.

Submitter's note:
Step 1....make sure weapon is unloaded
Step 2....repeat step one

"Readers here should know that, in a rare public disagreement, I have taken exception to GOA's endorsement based on the superlatives they used to back their man. I simply don't believe it's appropriate to characterize a man who declines to lead and champion as a champion and a leader. If you want to say Hoffman will probably be a lot better for gun owners than Owens, I'd say that's a reasonable assumption. But there is nothing on the public record to warrant going beyond that, and speaking only for myself, I'm tired of that kind of unsupported political rhetoric. Give me the facts, the pros, the cons, the implications, and then let me vote my informed conscience. Stop with the damned smoke-blowing."

Please read the linked essay from J. Croft's Freedom Guide.

Some will perhaps bicker with some of the details cited by Croft.

Others will look to his message of self-leadership and resistance, and realize that the old country is gone.

Likely forever.

For the foreseeable future, we live in a kleptocracy designed to enrich members of the political class and their allies ("the Ins") while permanently indenturing every single one of the rest of us ("the Outs").

Every single Out will have to choose:

Submit, and accept the chains of bondage to the Ins for yourself and your children.

Or fight and defeat by any means necessary those who are enslaving you and your progeny, even as you read this entry.

The Transportation Security Administration is, in many ways, a joke. Naturally, the TSA also wants to be the arbiter of jokes. Many US airports now play this security announcement: Any inappropriate remarks or jokes regarding security may result in your arrest. The definition of inappropriate is, of course, entirely at the discretion of the arresting officer. A priest, a rabbi, and a TSA officer walk into a bar. . . . Click! WA: NEVER Seek Help from the States Armed Enforcers

Meades attorney defends the murder as the result of a split-second decision (it wasnt, as weve seen) and predicts, with tragically justifiable confidence, that the officer will be acquitted in court. Its entirely likely that Meade wouldnt have been indicted if it werent for rising public concern over recent police shootings in Everett.

Trisha Tribble, who called 911, was mortified by the death of Meservey, whom she described as this drunken guy, [who] was obviously out of his mind.

There was no reason for him to die, she commented after the slaying.

And that was the trouble with Tribbles actions the night of June 10: Any time we seek help from the states armed enforcers, were effectively inviting them to use lethal force.
