"Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey introduced legislation Tuesday that would require the Justice Department to tell law enforcement officials when someone on a terrorism watch list buys a gun."

"The Justice Department says the Brady gun control law prevents it from sharing information about successful transactions by suspects on its watch list -- or anyone else. The department says the law allows it to report attempted purchases only."

"On the one hand, it looks like some folks in the nation's capital are finally starting to realize that banning guns is political suicide. On the other hand, those who have benefited most from 'gun politics' are about to shoot themselves in the foot."

"Several media reports within the past few weeks have reported that Democratic presidential candidates are running to the center, trying their best to distance themselves from the Brady Bunch." ...

"To be sure, many top-level Democrats have finally realized that support for gun control cost them control of the House, the Senate and the White House."

"Although the Bush Administration claims to be using every tool to stop terrorism, there is clearly a problem when it comes to gun laws. Instead of aggressively using gun records, Ashcroft is misinterpreting a law regarding gun purchases at the expense of public safety. Last year, Ashcroft contradicted his legal counsel inside the Department of Justice when he testified in front of Congress claiming that the FBI can't audit the background check system to determine if suspected terrorists bought guns. He now stands in the way of keeping the FBI from learning when and where suspected terrorists bought guns."

Slaughter on the streets demands we outlaw possession of handguns

"... I think we need to consider passing legislation to outlaw the private ownership of handguns."

"Americans own at least 200 million firearms. Every year tens of thousands of people in this country are killed by guns, and many more are wounded. Today, more people are killed by gunfire than auto accidents. The majority of these murders, suicides and accidents are the result of handguns."

-------
More lies and misrepresentation.

Murders, suicides and accidents were not the result of handguns, but the result of criminal use of said tools.

Additionally, according to the CDC, traffic accidents comprised 41.8 percent of all unintentional fatal injuries in 2001. Firearms comprised .8 percent. Meanwhile, in 2000, firearms ranked 7/10 for non-fatal, violence related injury. Unintentional falls were the number 1 cause of non-fatal injuries, while motor vehicle accidents came in at number 3.

According to the CDC's top ten fatal injuries list for people of all ages, firearm deaths comprised the majority of homicides - 10,746. But if we take this panty-wetter's claim that there are, in fact, 200 million firearms in the hands of Americans, firearm homicides comprise .005 percent of guns used.

"...The American people have awakened to the fact that the people who lead such groups have never seen a gun control law they didn't like."

"They come at you with cast-iron statistics. Yet, with millions of licensed firearm permit holders nationwide, they cannot point to a single incident where a permit holder has ever been linked to the death of a law enforcement officer."

"They cloak their hidden agenda of total disarmament by wrapping it around phrases that sound soft and cuddly like 'sensible gun laws' and 'gun safety' legislation."

"Yet they start waffling when you try to nail them down to exactly what their definitions of sensible and safety really mean."

"The debate over guns and controlling them always simmers hot, boiling over whenever a high profile shooting occurs, a new gun law is proposed or an advocacy group steps up its campaign."

"Those who advocate gun control laws point to the daily headlines on gun violence and grim statistics on senseless slayings as proof of the need to curb handguns."

"Those who advocate for gun rights point to the Second Amendment and counter anti-gun arguments by noting that crime rates have actually fallen as more and more states have allowed citizens to carry concealed weapons."

"These are not just theoretical arguments. They shape laws, affect court decisions and influence politics." ...

"What I discovered from my exposure to HCI and similar emotion-driven anti-Second Amendment organizations is this: Their members and supporters are self-anointed elitists, who lie so egregiously, consistently and chronically to themselves and others about facts, truth and basic human behavior that their propaganda rivals that of classic, master-manipulator elitists like Josef Goebbels, Adolph Hitlers Minister of Propaganda, Josef Stalin, Mao Tse Tung, Pol Pot and countless other murderous, megalomaniacal, power-hungry tyrants many of whose actions are examined in Innocents Betrayed."

"What America doesn't seem to grasp is the basic fact whereas, 'if we don't have Constitutional rights in the courts, we don't have Constitutional rights in the streets.' "

"Americans are desperate to believe their government is benevolent and is actually operating within the boundaries of their authority to govern. They conveniently forget that the Constitution IS that authority, and that authority IS the people."

"So what does 'symbolic speech' have to do with all this you ask? Not much, just EVERYTHING."

"Since December of 2001, one man in Denver and then again in the summer of 2002 in Thornton, one Rick Stanley, had the audacity to 'exercise his God given, protected and guaranteed 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms on his person, openly, lawfully within his State Constitution right as well, while campaigning for the 2002 US Senate race in Colorado.' Arrested, jailed, tried, convicted and jailed again for exercising rights. Rights are 'NOT PRIVILEGES.' "

"Gov. Jim Doyle's veto of a concealed weapons bill Tuesday shot the emotional issue back to four Senate Democrats, who will decide whether the Senate takes the first step toward overriding the governor."

"The four Democrats - Bob Wirch of Kenosha, Julie Lassa of Stevens Point, Mark Meyer of La Crosse and Russ Decker of Schofield - weren't saying Tuesday how they will vote when the Senate takes up the governor's veto in December."

"It will take 22 of the 33 senators to override the veto, and all 18 Republicans are expected to again back legalizing concealed weapons, as are two other Democrats besides the four in question. The 99-member Assembly will get a chance to override the governor only if the Senate does so first."

"Let's think about this for a moment. If you owned a restaurant, and did not allow smoking, wouldn't you find it offensive if a law were enacted requiring you to permit smoking?" ...

"The totalitarian method to resolve the conflict is through political power and guns. In other words, the group with the greatest power to organize government's brute force decides whether there'll be smoking or no smoking in restaurants. Totalitarians might justify their actions by claiming that bars, restaurants and workplaces deal with the public, and thus the public should decide how they'll be used. That's nonsense. Just because an establishment deals with the public doesn't make it public property."
