"As for actions on guns, determining Lynchs sympathies is indirect, but nonetheless not too hard to divine. She supported anti-gun Hillary Clinton, and then anti-gun Obama in their bids for political power. Earlier, she had supported David Dinkins for Mayor of New York, helping enable his lookalike 'assault weapon' ban. And speaking of former Big Apple mayors, Rudy Giuliani, naturally described by 'progressive' publications as a 'staunch Republican,' gives her a thumbs-up."

Nevada city officials said they have received more than 100 angry phone calls and emails after people learned about a committee's recommendation to ban guns on city property.

The controversy started Monday when a post appeared on the Iowa Gun Owners Facebook page about the proposed ban.

The post read, "Breaking News: Nevada, Iowa is trying to strip you of your right of self-defense in virtually the entire city!!"

"It was kind of a surprise come Monday when I opened up the emails," said Lynn Lathrop, the mayor of Nevada.

Tens of thousands of gun owners from around the country are taking advantage of Utah's concealed firearm permits each year - often taking a required class given by instructors licensed by Utah but who live in other states.

About two-thirds of the nearly 577,000 permits Utah has issued in the last two decades have gone to residents from other states. More than 81,000 out-of-staters obtained permits from Utah in fiscal year 2014, accounting for 80 percent of the cards issued, shows a new state report issued this week.

After spending $10.6 million in the Nov. 4 elections and barely [winning] half its contests, Gabby Giffords gun control groupAmericans For Responsible Solutions (ARS)says it will be back in 2016.

But Politico describes this as a steep task, and that may be putting it mildly.

Think about itARS endorsed 18 total candidates in House, Senatorial, and gubernatorial races. Of these, they claim nine wins yet among the high-profile races in which they supported pro-gun control Senators, ARS came up nearly empty-handed. They supported Senators Mark Udall (D-CO) and Kay Hagan (D-NC)both of whom lostand they supported pro-gun control Senatorial candidate Bruce Braley (D-IA), who lost to pro-Second Amendment Senator-elect Joni Ernst.

The National Rifle Association and deep-pocketed groups affiliated with wealthy conservatives have bombarded Louisiana with more than $3 million in advertising, mailers and phone calls since Election Day to sink Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu in Louisiana's runoff.

The NRA's political arm leads spending, pumping more than $1.1 million into the showdown between Landrieu and Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy, a USA TODAY tally of federal election records shows. Americans for Prosperity, tied to billionaire industrialists Charles Koch and Davis Koch, has spent more than $900,000. A third group, called Ending Spending Action Fund and created by TDAmeritrade founder J. Joe Ricketts, has spent more than $822,000.

The number of Utah concealed weapon permits issued went down by a quarter in the past year.

About 81,300 out-of-state residents and another 20,300 Utahns acquired a permit in 2014, representatives from the Bureau of Criminal Identification said Wednesday.

The officers delivered an annual report to a panel of state representatives charged with overseeing law enforcement and criminal justice issues.

Last year was the peak for the total number of permits issued 133,766.

Clearly, Washington State is a much safer place now that they are implementing universal background checks on all private firearm transfers. Oh, you want proof? Just look at Lynden, Washington Thanks to the new law, a handful of antiquated WWII rifles (used in the Pacific theater) will be stripped from the dangerous hands of a local museum. I know I feel much safer. (Are you picking up on the sarcasm, or do I need to spell it out for you?)

WellMerry Christmas, courtesy of President Obama and John Kerry. The United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs announced this week that on December 24th of this year they will begin enforcement of the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. Do you remember me writing about this, roughly a year ago?

The treaty has requirements for import and export controls that would require officials in an importing country to collect information on the end user of a firearm, keep that information for 20 years, and provide ownership/location information to the country from which any firearm was exported.

The problem in Pennsylvania is that the Legislature did not provide any penalties for local scofflaw governments when they break the law. This year, 2014, second amendment supporters were able to pass the reform bill into law. They were fought all the way with attempts to bottle the bill in committee, and various other procedural tricks.

The disarmists were not able to stop the bill, HB80, which proved very popular, passing by margins of more than two to one.

A gun prohibition lobbying group will reportedly benefit from the sale of disturbing posters superimposing targets over pictures of people including a housewife, priest, bride, pizza delivery guy and a woman with her back turned toward the camera and yesterday, the head of a leading gun rights organization called the targets offensive and suggested no responsible gun owner will buy them.

Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, told Guns.com, Considering that good guys with guns stop more bad guys who target innocent victims and save many more lives than are lost to so-called gun violence, I bet they dont sell many of those offensive targets.

Two violent robbery attempts in Pierce County yesterday may reinforce the notion that the way to fight crime is to shoot back, as police are investigating whether a body dumped in Federal Way may have been one of the suspects in a Lakewood home invasion, and other cops are hunting for suspects in a separate incident who may have been shot up pretty badly by a friend of the victim.

Alan Colmes invited Gun Owners of Americas executive director, Larry Pratt, on his program yesterday and asked the gun lobbyist about some of his more incendiary comments, including his assertion that elected officials should have a healthy fear of being shot and his warnings that President Obama might start a race war.

When Colmes asked him about his comments on threatening elected officials, Pratt responded, Sure, thats what the Second Amendment is all about.

In a 1964 U.S. Supreme Court case involving a movie-theater owner convicted of an Ohio law banning the showing of obscene movies, Justice Potter Stewart famously said he could not intelligibly define obscenity, but I know it when I see it. People still use that line to showcase the imprecision and irrationality of many laws.

How do we convict someone of something so hard to define? We often know when we see other absurdities, also, including an archaic statute now subject of a gun-related lawsuit filed this month in federal court. California Civil Code 26820 bans gun stores from displaying signs visible from outside the premises picturing handguns.

Many posters on the Internets have stated that warning shots would be taken as evidence that the shooter did not consider the threat to be deadly, or they would have shot center mass instead of firing the warning shot or shots.

In this case from Maryland, the prosecutor came to the opposite conclusion.

With a murder rate many times higher than the U.S., Russian legislators approved the carry of guns for self-defense.
The new law was announced on November 18.

The International Business Times reports that prior to this change Russians were only allowed to own firearms for hunting or target practice. Because of this, there are only 13 million privately owned firearms in Russia compared to approximately 310 million the US. On the other hand, there were 21,603 murders in Russia in 2009 compared with just over 13,600 in the US, which has a population almost twice as large [as Russia].

Metro Shooting Supplies, in an area near the citys main airport, reports selling two to three times more weapons than usual in recent weeks an average of 30 to 50 guns each day while the jury prepares to conclude its three-month review of the case that sparked looting and weeks of sometimes-violent protests in August.

Were selling everything thats not nailed down, owner Steven King said. Police arent going to be able to protect every single individual. If you dont prepare yourself and get ready for the worst, you have no one to blame but yourself.
