Those who enjoy collecting guns or who enjoy shooting high-powered, multi-round, automatic weapons at targets also are part of a tradition, albeit one with a briefer history. Regulations will necessarily infringe on ownership of these guns as well when certain kinds of weapons are abused or used in crimes. Closing the gun-show loophole, which allows the sale of weapons without a background check, is a reasonable response to the rate at which these weapons are used in crimes, often in other states. |

My wife and I got married right after the Franco-Prussian War. We each changed a lot over the years, sometimes in ways that caused us to fight like a couple of hillbillies on crack. But so far, we're still making it work.
However, we're smart enough to know that there are things that could finish us. Here are mine: 1. Selling my grandkids on eBay. 2. Having a sex change operation without telling me. 3. Shooting me for any reason other than self-defense.
Back to you. Anything yet? |

The Oregon Court of Appeals has rejected a request by a Medford teacher to carry a handgun at school.
Shirley Katz had argued the Medford School District lacked authority to set a policy banning employees from carrying firearms.
Katz has a concealed weapons permit and claimed she needed her 9 mm semiautomatic pistol for protection from her ex-husband. |

Pennsylvania law justifies the use of deadly force in self-defense, but requires people outside their home or workplace to try and retreat first, if they think that's safe and possible.
A bill before the House would eliminate that provision, and reads a threatened person "has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his ground and use protective force, including deadly force."
Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico says if the bill passes, it would open up a loophole and allow drug dealers charged in shoot outs to claim a legitimate defense. |

"He was ordered to turn over all of his guns on Oct. 26. He did not, and nothing was done about it. For this to even be an option is beyond comprehension," Lynch's relatives wrote in their message. "Her murder may not have been preventable. Somebody this sick and deranged would have found a way to commit this despicable crime. But, it shouldn't have been easy for him."
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has pushed a measure that would prohibit gun ownership for people convicted of domestic abuse. |

In late October, President Obama signed into law the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, making it a federal crime to assault people based on their sexual orientation.
...
The law was named after Matthew Shepard, who was brutally tortured and murdered in 1998, because his killers couldn't stand his sexual preferences; and James Byrd, Jr., a black man horribly murdered the same year by white supremacists in Texas, which had no hate crime laws at the time. While what was done to these men is indisputably heinous, I am a little unclear about what proponents of this law expect it to accomplish. |

St. Clair County State's Attorney Robert Haida, whose office filed the charge, said in a prepared statement: "I commend the shop clerk for what is clearly a legal act of self-defense." He added, "This type of defensive action is allowed by law-abiding citizens when violent, unlawful acts are perpetrated against them."

Things are going well with the Second Amendment March. We now have 29 State Coordinators and website traffic is holding steady at 45,000 unique visitors per week. Donations were up slightly last month but still painfully short of what well need to pull this event off. I hate to beg, but even five dollars per person would be a great help in organizing efforts.
Dennis Sanford, our Field Representative, will be sending out the official letters to the gun industry next week asking for monetary and logistical support. Were hoping that during these times of record firearm and ammo sales that the gun industry will help us out. |

The brief was prepared by attorney Alan Gura who was also the attorney for the widely known Heller case which successfully challenged the Washington D.C. handgun ban last year.
The brief is available for viewing and downloading at ChicagoGunCase.com. The brief presents an excellent and compelling argument as to why the Second Amendment should be incorporated into the states. Many Second Amendment supporters will find the brief easy to read and comprehend. It has been said by some IllinoisCarry members who have read it to cause goosebumps in its scope, clarity, and purpose. |

It bears repeating: Practice handling and shooting your gun before you need to use it. But if youre going to carry concealed, practice CARRYING before you actually do it.
Always Deciding to carry concealed presents some interesting and important mental challenges. Besides always staying in practice, so you are always as safe as you can be in a crisis, there are many more demands on you, all of them preceded by the word always. (And there are scores of other demands preceded by never, but those are the ones we hear all the time.) |

We were the first yesterday afternoon to post Kay Bailey Hutchison's new ad and to report that Rick Perry was following suit with a spot of his own. Perry put his new spot on his campaign website right after we broke the news with the Hutchison ad. You'll notice that the Perry spot includes a photo of Hutchison -- at least the Hutchison folks noticed it. And although the ad implicitly criticizes Hutchison for not being conservative enough, Hutchison campaign spokesman Joe Pounder notes that the picture over the "While Washington gives us politics" wording was from a news conference in which Hutchison declared victory in the District of Columbia v. Heller case that overturned the D.C. gun ban. |

It's getting close to that special time of the year. No, not Thanksgiving, but the weekend after. That's when South Carolina celebrates what the Legislature has designated as "Second Amendment Weekend." That's when firearms can be purchased tax free in the Palmetto State, thanks to the largesse of our lawmakers.
It will be the second consecutive year that the Legislature has singled out firearms for tax-free treatment. |

Cleveland Gun Rights Examiner Daniel White in his Nov. 11 column on examiner.com notes the irony in how some anti-Second Amendment zealots are dealing with the reality that soon law-abiding, legally licensed gun owners will be able to exercise their right to carry a concealed weapon in their national parks. Get this: The same people who love to layer law upon law to restrict rights, are now whining about "putting another code on the books" to unleash those illegally-restricted rights.
Does that makes sense? Well, it does to Todd Wilkinson, as White reports: |

A Davidson County judge ruled Tennessee's controversial guns-in-bars law unconstitutional at a Friday hearing, prompting the state senator who sponsored the legislation to say he will push the issue again when lawmakers return in a few months.
Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman said the law, enacted earlier this year over the veto of Gov. Phil Bredesen, is "fraught with ambiguity."
She ruled after an hour of arguments in a lawsuit brought by a group of plaintiffs, many of them restaurant owners. More than 257,000 people have handgun carry permits in Tennessee. |

Walking stick in hand, clad in military fatigues, he strolls a trail in the woods near his home, located on 22 acres near Nikiski, a small, unincorporated community with isolated roads and no local government. The nearest state trooper post is two towns away. |

Today we're going to talk about a type of shooting practice called dry fire.
Dry firing is simply pulling the trigger on a gun that is not loaded with live ammunition. The gun can be empty or can be loaded with dummy rounds or snap caps. Both dummy rounds and snap caps look and may feel like real cartridges but are fake and cannot be fired. They are designed to reduce wear on a guns firing pin by giving it something to hit and transfer its energy to. |

At some point, the parent made the mistake of walking upstairs to look at some of the student-produced artwork. Eventually the teacher arrived and had a fruitful discussion with the parent, who left.
Unfortunately, the teacher who had been the parents original escort panicked when the visitor couldnt be found. The administration was notified, and at around 8:30 a.m. the children were herded into the gym, and lockdown protocols went into effect.
Police called in the Chesmont Emergency Response Team [ERT], who were training Tuesday in the township, to assist in clearing the building, reported the Chester County, PA Daily Local. David Cohen, a nebbishy, balding fellow from Stoughton, Massachusetts, seemed poorly cast as a loan shark.
Unlike Chili Palmer, the mob debt collector created by Elmore Leonard (and played on screen by John Travolta), Cohen couldn't pry open the bank accounts of recalcitrant debtors simply by fixing them with a steely gaze and hissing, "Look at me."
Cohen was dispatched by a friend named Peter Marinilli to collect $9,000 from a businessman named Timothy Hills. Frustrated when his demand didn't reduce Hills to a puddle of compliant jello, Cohen -- a sergeant in the Staughton Police Department -- tried a different approach: He placed Hills under arrest, handcuffed him, and detained him until the businessman signed a promissory note to Marinilli.

He was stopped for allegedly using a cell phone while driving down Village Road in Harding Township at 11:20 a.m. He also was subsequently charged with driving with a suspended license. Harding Lt.
