A man shot and killed an armed intruder late Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Briarwood Apartments, Benton Township police said.
Seven people, including three children, were in the apartment but none of them were hurt in the shootout.
The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Two masked intruders, armed with handguns, broke into an apartment at 1915 Union Ave. in Berrien Countys Benton Township, police said.
The renter, who was in a bedroom, heard the commotion. He armed himself with a rifle and came out. When he encountered one of the intruders, armed with a handgun, the two exchanged gunfire. The alleged attackers fled, firing shots at the apartment as they left, Benton Township police said. |

Commissioners voted in favor of a resolution declaring Sullivan County a Second Amendment sanctuary.
Commissioners Gary Stidham and Hunter Locke sponsored the resolution. It passes amid concern from citizen advocates, other states enforcing red flag laws and proposed gun control legislation across the state line in Virginia.
If an area is a Second Amendment sanctuary, it has passed a resolution not to use resources to enforce gun control legislation it deems unconstitutional. |

The extreme risk protection order (ERPO), also known as red flag laws, passed in this year's Democrat-controlled Legislature. The measure, HB1177, allows law enforcement or family members of troubled gun owners to petition a judge to have those weapons removed under extreme circumstances, but only if the gun owner is deemed a risk to themselves or others. |

The one group at the forefront of trying to take away our right to keep and bear arms today is perhaps the best-funded such group in history. Despite the attempt to have a grass-roots name, this is a group largely funded by Michael Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor currently running for president.
The Everytown group, which counts Moms Demand Action as its force of grass-roots activists, is proving to be very potent. Its not hard. Bloombergs money has been able to provide a sustained grassroots force that past groups like the Brady Campaign and the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence havent been able to really build. |

Under a new state law, prosecutors must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a person who uses deadly force did not do so in self-defense, defense of another or defense of the persons residence.
Biehl said there was evidence of some drug activity taking place in the garage. Harrisons father, Jimmy Harrison, previously said the boys sometimes went to the property to smoke marijuana.
Hendersons mother said the boys had gone to the property multiple times before. She said the shooter should have called police when he heard noises outside or fired a warning shot. |

Police in North Carolina say they wont charge a man who fatally shot someone trying to rob him during a botched drug deal.
The Winston-Salem Journal reports that Lt. Gregory Dorn said 25-year-old Charvez Kent Brown went to a home on Tuesday to sell 22-year-old Danielle Miller marijuana. However, Dorn says the potential buyer, along with 22-year-old Ajian Lynell Jones and 19-year-old Andres Harris, tried to rob Brown. The newspaper says Brown ran away but the three began shooting at him. He was wounded and returned fire, also wounding the others. |

The new Henry Model 24, side loading gate, lever-action rifle arrived just as our summer temperatures moderated here in Park County, Wyoming. As I peeled back the wrapping paper the 24 was encased in, that first blush appearance was most favorable, maybe even a little stunning.
This is the first lever gun in the Henry line-up with the side loading gate and Henry's production of the Model 24 rifle was executed perfectly. The innovative side gate was very smooth with little resisting pressure when slipping cartridges into the tube, this is a welcomed addition to the Henry rifles' lineup. |

In the wake of a mass shooting at the Gilroy Garlic Festival last summer, Santa Clara County leaders this week approved a new gun control law that requires firearm owners to safely lock their weapons when not in arms reach.
The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an ordinance requiring the safe storage of firearms within residences on unincorporated county land. The new law requires firearms either be lawfully carried by residents, in their close proximity and control, or disabled with a trigger lock or in a locked container when left unattended. The storage requirements do not apply when firearms are carried outside of residences. |

The AR-15 has taken center stage in the American gun debate. But at its heart, the AR-15 is a rifle that has been modified to look and feel a certain way.
The emphasis on its appearance, however, has shaped how the country regulates firearms, to the frustration of many gun owners and gun control advocates alike.
The AR-15 is a semiautomatic rifle that usually shoots 5.56mm rounds. It has a detachable magazine so users can put in 5-, 10-, 30-, or even 60- and 100-round magazines. |

After dropping an attempt to keep secret the identities of two plaintiffs, the National Rifle Association has relaunched a federal court challenge to a Florida law that raised the age to purchase rifles and other long guns.
The NRA filed the lawsuit last year, immediately following the passage of a sweeping school-safety law enacted in response to the mass shooting at Parklands Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that killed 17 students and faculty members. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46 |
