Here is the e-mail from Nicholson. He is wrong about one thing, though. Hanging in the balance is not merely "the course of our nation for the next four years," but for all time. If we allow this "long train of abuses and usurpations" to continue unchecked, if we allow junior to brazenly steal the presidency, the inescapable consequence is death to America as we knew it. The American experiment with a Constitutional Republic form of government will be viewed as freedom's flash between Despots. |

In George Will's opinion it is now algore 1, Alexander Hamilton (and us) 0. Governor Bush may be extending a velvet glove by pursuing a legal "remedy," but I hope he's wearing brass knuckles on his other fist because this blatant abuse of power needs to be slammed. |

Decent writeup from FOX:
"But critics say there is one catch with these programs: they don't work."
"They do very little good," said David Kennedy, a senior researcher at Harvard University's Kennedy School program in criminal justice. "The pool of guns that get turned in in buybacks are simply not the same guns that would otherwise have been used in crime." |

Jack Wheeler calls for some straight talk from President-elect Bush: "what is absolutely critical not just for your victory but for the survival of the rule of law in America...[that] you yourself publicly make the accusation of theft and state the case for it." Time to turn this thing around. |

But he had to do it barehanded, when they guy had a gun. THAT is the UK for you. The gunman had a gun to a woman's head, and the clerks wouldn't hand over any money. I guess UK subjects put money above life, but, then, we already knew that, didn't we? |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our Founding Fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fears of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the second amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationships, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of the country. For that reason I believe the second amendment will always be important. --JOHN F. KENNEDY |
