... "On Thursday the 15th, I was contacted by Eric Flack of WLWT Channel 5 News in Cincinnati. He told me he was doing a story on criminals obtaining guns at gun shows and wanted someone to come down and talk with them. We talked for several minutes and finally agreed that I would come down around 8PM for a studio interview. I had my apprehensions about doing this: The media rarely gives gun owners a fair shake, and sadly this was no exception. In a four minute report, I was on air for ten seconds at best." ... |

"The authors of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution could have used a lesson in clarity, not to mention punctuation. ..." ...
"The U.S. Supreme Court announced this week it would review a gun case centering on that amendment."
"The court is poised to decide 'whether the Second Amendment means what it says,' according to Alan Gura, a lawyer in the case."
"But, what does it say?"
"Gura, who represents a man challenging the District of Columbia's gun restrictions, is certain he knows the answer to that."
"The amendment 'guarantees an individual right to keep and bear arms,' ... That's also what the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit said in striking down part of the District's gun law." ... |

"The Supreme Court has agreed to take up a case that will affect millions of Americans and could also have an impact on the 2008 elections. That case, Parker v. D.C., should settle the decades-old argument whether the right "to keep and bear arms" of the Constitution's Second Amendment is an individual right -- that all Americans enjoy -- or only a collective right that states may regulate freely. Legal, historical and even empirical reasons all command a decision that recognizes the Second Amendment guarantee as an individual right." ... |

"Should a law-abiding citizen be allowed to keep a gun in his own home?"
"That's the fundamental question that the U.S. Supreme Court will be considering in March, when justices hear arguments in the first Second Amendment case to come before the high court since 1939. Justices will be ruling on a case involving a Washington, D.C., man whose desire to keep his gun at home ran afoul of the district's strict prohibition against handguns."
"At its core, the question before the court is this: Does the Second Amendment to the Constitution guarantee the right of an individual to keep a gun in his home, or was it intended as a way for the states to maintain militias? A close look at the sentence itself does not bring clarity." ... |

"In seemingly less time than it takes to say 'ready on the firing line,' the U.S. Supreme Court will be embroiled in the firearms culture wars as it rules on what the Second Amendment really means when it comes to gun ownership. Six residents of the District of Columbia have filed suit to lift the ban on keeping handguns in their homes. Briefs are to be filed by January, arguments are set for March, a decision is expected by June." ... |

"...It is beyond controversy, because the testimony of all experience in all ages and countries is, that man's individual feelings are stronger than his sympathetic emotions; hence the maxim that "self-preservation is the first law of nature." To breathe is not more natural than to love first and preferentially one's self, one's own wife, one's own children, one's own kindred, one's own country. If this were not so, what would become of self-improvement, of family, and of patriotism? The assertion of selfhood is inseparable from human nature. It is the gift of God, and therefore must be beneficial in its exercise. Only when it is abused does it degenerate into selfishness..." |

A suspended East Windsor police officer charged with using the Internet to lure an 11-year-old girl to have sex with him has resigned.
Police Chief Edward DeMarco Jr. said Tuesday that 38-year-old Darren Seligman submitted a letter of resignation on Nov. 9th.
FBI agents arrested Seligman last month at East Windsor police headquarters. In his detention hearing in Hartford federal court earlier this month, Seligman apologized to his family and the police department.
Court records show that Seligman, who lives in Mansfield, had been exchanging sexually explicit instant messages with the girl since September. |
