The board of education for the Detroit Public Schools Community District opposes allowing concealed weapons to be carried in schools, a bill that would allow charter schools to share revenue from a special millage, and any future attempt to dilute the power of locally elected school board members.

Those were among the positions the board took during a meeting this week in which members set their legislative agenda.

"The recommendation would be to oppose allowing individuals other than officers to bring concealed weapons to schools," Superintendent Nikolai Vitti said.

No one will be charged in the shooting death of Michael McCraney of Laurens.

Authorities announced last Tuesday it was a case of self-defense. The person who shot McCraney was not identified in a statement by the Laurens County Sheriffs Office.

The statement said, After closely working with the Eighth Circuit Solicitors Office and reviewing all evidence, it has been established and determined that the actions taken in the death of Michael McCraney resulted in a justifiable homicide. Our investigations have concluded that this death was an act of self-defense and no charges will be filed.

But maybe doing something can happen in a measure that could start at least cutting the odds of mass shootings here. The sponsors of the bill which would improve background-checks for gun sales compiled by the National Instant Criminal Background Check system are Sens. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and John Cornyn (R.-Texas); co-sponsors include Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.).

Senator Stan Ori is introduced late in the season, in the ninth episode (of 13). Hes a New York politician bent on expanding required background checks to buy guns. This is, in fact, the very first thing we learn about him: A radio host introduces him as a proponent of tougher gun control laws. Ori immediately comes off as not really knowing what hes talking aboutportrayed with a slick vagueness by Rick Holmes, he briefly debates gun control with Karen Page and the radio host before they are interrupted by domestic terrorist Lewis Wilson (Daniel Webber), and Ori never makes a point that isnt quickly rebuffed by either the radio host or Page.

A man is speaking out to NBC12, claiming he was denied a gun purchase because he looked suspicious.

Christopher Mason recorded a video of him being asked to leave Hopkins Gun and Tackle in Mechanicsville. The gun shop owner is now responding to the allegation and explaining his actions.

A gun dealer has the right to deny a customer, even if that person passes a background check. Christopher Mason believes the gun shop abused that right and judged him by his appearance.

"I said I'm not going to sell you a gun, store owner Vance Hopkins said in a video thats now gained 4.5 million Facebook views this month.

The Second Amendment guarantees the right to bear arms, and that right must be preserved. But citizens do not need weapons capable of killing many victims quickly. They do not need bump stocks that convert a semi-automatic weapon into a machine gun-like weapon.

Background checks should be applied for every purchase, not just those by licensed dealers, and people with mental health issues should be monitored better and prohibited more reliably from buying weapons.

Did you notice that Donald Trump labeled the Sutherland Springs massacre a mental health problem, not a gun issue, after he worked with Congress in February to loosen mental health restrictions on gun purchases?

MA: Bill would legalize firearm suppressors in Massachusetts

Forty-two states allow private ownership of firearm suppressors, but Massachusetts is not one of them. Ownership could become legal if lawmakers pass a bill filed by State Senator Don Humason (R-Westfield).

State Lawmakers are considering the bill that would remove a Massachusetts ban on firearm suppressors, or a device used to silence, muffle or diminish the noise of a firearm.

Second amendment advocates said the move would protect the hearing of firearm safety instructors and hunters.

About four years ago, Mysirell Green was riding in a friends green Buick when Chicago police officers pulled over the car for a failure to signal. Green, then 18, was carrying an unregistered .25-caliber handgun. He was arrested and charged.

In some states, no license is needed to carry a handgun. But it is required in Illinois. And in Chicago, many residents have been charged for having a gun without that permit.

Green said he kept the gun for protection in the violent areas around the Englewood neighborhood where he grew up. He said not carrying one simply wasnt an option.

For over a year, the River at Tampa Bay Church in Florida has had armed security in their congregation.

After the Nov. 9 shooting in Sutherland Springs that claimed the lives of 26 people, the River at Tampa Bay Church's lead Pastor Howard Browne who launched a "24/7 prayer initiative" for Trump posted the signs that hang throughout the exterior of their east Tampa place of worship.

While the group focuses on the exchange of stories individual-to-individual, their work frequently resonates with the larger project of spreading political empathy across parties. Perhaps their most well-known project is a collaboration with New Yorker Magazine last year, when Narrative 4 brought together a group of individuals with drastically opposing views on one of the most divisive issues in the U.S. today: gun control. Participants in the gun control radical empathy session included a prominent Second Amendment advocate, members of the police and Marines, a parent of Sandy Hook victims, and Samaria Rice, mother of Tamir Rice.

Mondays order list may also include word on Kolbe v. Hogan, a challenge to Marylands ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines.

The case is a first-timer to the justices private conference, meaning that a grant on Monday isnt likely. The court typically relists a casethat is, discusses the case during at least one more private conferencebefore granting the case.

The justices havent been eager to hear Second Amendment challenges recently and have already turned away cases challenging similar bans in a Chicago suburb and in Connecticut in recent terms.

But in the aftermath of the worst mass murder in American history, our late-night comedians have chosen to become leftist pundits. They didnt even try to frame their politics with humor; instead, they pretended to be Americas conscience. I say pretended, because a conscience at least tries to tell the truth; such is the fundamental thing a conscience does. But these comedians-turned-commentators didnt do that at all. They just gave us a heaping dose of one-sided political propaganda.

In truth, it was even worse than that. They accused law-abiding American gun owners of being responsible for a mass murderers actions. Many also blamed National Rifle Association members directly. A few even called the NRA a terrorist organization.

DC: The actual original intent of the Second Amendment

I appreciated the Nov. 17 news article Some common ground in contentious gun debate and fully support any bipartisan attempt at gun regulation. But we will never find consensus so long as those who defy gun control believe that the Second Amendment is on their side. This falsehood is too often reinforced by the media. Responsible reporting on the Second Amendment and gun issues should recognize the debate is over its original intent and not promote that one-sided interpretation.

Much to the chagrin of Second Amendment proponents, public and private employers, municipalities, public and private schools, owners of stores, malls and office buildings continue to ban those with a legal right to carry weapons from having them on their person at their venues.

The once strong and, seemingly, infallible Second Amendment has been watered down to the point that right-to-carry license holders can only have guns in their residences. The left is winning this one employer, one municipality, one store owner, one office building owner at a time, with the courts backing this movement.

More Americans Stand By The NRA As Liberal Elites Try To Foist Their Values On Everyone

All while most Americans have lost faith in the institutions we used to be able to count on, except for onethe National Rifle Association of America. Today, more Americans trust the NRA than either national political party, and more than almost all of our political leaders and institutions. And Americans sure dont trust the news media! But they do trust the NRA. They trust the NRA to tell the truth, to say what we mean, and to stand and fight for what we believe. More than anything, we stand and fight for the right of every law-abiding citizen to exercise his or her Second Amendment-protected freedomunfettered by government intrusionto defend and protect themselves, their families and their communities.

Don't even try to take Earl Dibbles Jr.'s guns. Granger Smith's alter ego stands up for the second amendment no matter what, so when two city boys try to confiscate his rifle in the "Don't Tread on Me" video," he does everything he can to protect himself.

The clip opens with Dibbles outside, living off the land and hunting down his next meal. Elsewhere we see those pesky city boys, eating their store-bought vegan sandwiches as they hunt down the country boy.
