Suddenly there was an uncomfortable feeling that someone's heritage had been appropriated for personal gain.

Marylands two-week gun season for deer starts on Saturday, although interest in the tradition has waned over the years, according to the owner of a local sporting good store.

Millennials are not interested in hunting, unfortunately, said Lance Hendershot, owner of Hendershots Sporting Goods on National Pike just east of Hagerstown.

As a result, not as many fathers and grandfathers are joining the younger generation in the woods, said Hendershot.

Hendershot said hunting license sales in Pennsylvania and Maryland have declined about 25 percent, although the trend has not been as noticeable in the Deep South.

I came across this recent very brief, four paragraph, news story out of Illinois a few days ago of a defendant acquitted in a bench trial on several felony charges after he stabbed someone 10 times with a 2.5 knife during a road rage incident.

I noted that it conveniently provided a good basis for discussing several interesting legal points that often arise in cases of self-defense.

Two brothers got into a fight Wednesday night that ended with a gunshot wound, but no critical injuries, police say.

The altercation began just before 9:30 p.m. in the 800 West block of Mount Tuscarora Drive in Taylorsville. One of the men retrieved a handgun during the fight and shot the other once in the lower back area, said Unified Police Lt. Ken Malone.

Police are still investigating, but Malone said the shot may have been fired in self-defense.

Using deadly force while intoxicated should not be prohibited if it is done in self defense, says a proposal under consideration by Utah lawmakers.

If youre defending yourself, but ... youve been drinking, it does not limit your ability or your right to choose how you defend yourself, said Rep. Norm Thurston, R-Provo.

Thurston told the Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Interim Committee Nov. 14 the bill is needed to conform to case law that says states cannot restrict this use even in this way.

Its not an ideal situation, but its probably a constitutional violation for us to say that person whos been drinking cant pick up a weapon to defend themselves, or have to defend themselves with just their bare knuckles,

Perhaps the best way to envision Rugers new P.C.C. (that is, its Pistol Caliber Carbine) is to imagine their universally admired 10-22 carbine pumped up on steroids. Every aspect of that lithe little .22 LR autoloader has been beefed up and man-sized to create a stout, dead-reliable 9mm Luger (9x19 mm) carbine that is darn near ideal for plinking fun, PCC action competition, and home defensive duties.

She also installed Fred Guttenberg as co-vice chairman. Guttenbergs daughter was murdered in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in February. In the wake of the shooting, both Murphy and Guttenberg have emerged as leading gun control activists in Florida. Moreover, after Fried was declared the winner, Floridapolitics.com reported, Some of Floridas biggest gun control advocates saw in Nikki Frieds Agriculture Commissioner race a victory.

We would remind Commissioner-elect Fried that her role on guns is rather limited. In that regard, her job is to ensure concealed-weapons permits are processed appropriately and that only people eligible for them will have them.

MD: Is the problem the weapon, or the person with the weapon?

Gun technology hasnt changed much in a century. The first successful semi-automatic rifle was designed in 1885. Remington introduced its autoloading rifle in 1905. In the mid 1920s, you could purchase a Thompson submachine gun through the mail. It fired 1,500 rounds per minute and could empty a 100-round magazine in four seconds. By comparison, the AK-47 (designed in 1947) only fires 600 rpm and the M-16 (designed in 1959) fires 950 rpm.

Conversely, access to firearms has been progressively tightened over the years. The 1934 National Firearms Act made it illegal for most citizens to own a fully automatic machine gun.

The hypocrisy of the elites is sickening. In an effort to transform America into their utopian socialist state, they have thrown hundreds of millions of dollars to buy elections around the country paid professional protesters to storm into the streets and partnered with most of the national news media to manufacture outrage to the point of potential violence.

All of it aimed at changing our country and destroying the Second Amendment forever. And the battle over our freedom has intensified. Already, Sens. Kamala Harris from California, Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts and Cory Booker from New Jersey have been among those to hit the campaign trail in their heated race to seize the White House in 2020.

I was saddened to learn that one of my favorite cartoonists, Wayne Stayskal, has passed away this week. Wayne retired from editorial cartooning as the conservative cartoonist for The Tampa Tribune in 2004.

...

Devoted Cagle.com fans will remember Wayne from the first ten years of our site. Wayne was an enthusiastic Cagle.com contributor and I often featured him on the front page and in special topical sections devoted just to Wayne. Wayne was a staunch defender of gun rights and the Second Amendment. Wayne laughed about how often he drew variations on the same cartoon of a burglar being frustrated by a gun wielding homeowner there really were a lot of these, and they were all funny.

Rep. Rick Becker, R-Bismarck, says hes reviving a Bill that would keep local and state law enforcement from enforcing federal gun laws that are more restrictive than the states laws.

Becker says he wants to protect the peoples second amendment rights and the 10th amendment right for state sovereignty. He adds theres no intent in this Bill to be a detriment to law enforcement.

It doesnt prevent federal law enforcement from enforcing those laws. It just says to respect the sovereignty of our state, we dont agree with those law, were not going to enforce them, said Becker.

Kemps campaign mirrored Trumps political themes and rhetoric. During the primary, Kemp promised to protect the Second Amendment by running a campaign ad in which he brandished a shotgun at a teenage boy who wanted to date his daughter. Another ad showed him sitting in a pickup truck that he said hed use to personally "round up criminal illegals. He described Abrams, who campaigned on expanding Medicaid, increasing spending on education and protecting the rights of women, immigrants and people of color, as radical and extreme.

During the Brett Kavanaugh hearings, Democrats rejected the legal concept of presumed innocence. Can there be any doubt that, with one more liberal Supreme Court justice, they would reinterpret the Second Amendment to eliminate our gun rights?
