John Madore, the man who shot and killed a security guard at a New Hampshire psychiatric hospital in Concord last week, was not allowed to have guns, ammunition, or any other weapons following an arrest in 2016, according to court records.

At that time, police seized an assault-style rifle and 9 mm handgun from Madore.

As the North Charleston Police Department partners with community groups to try to reduce gun violence, one key step is trying to get as many illegally possessed and unlawfully carried guns off the streets.

Patrol officers confiscated more than 400 guns from January to October, according to the North Charleston Police Department. Most are handguns, and many are found during routine traffic stops for minor violations.

Anthony McGruder, 33, was shot by the property owner on the morning of Sunday, November 5 on Hensarling Lane.

The property owner told deputies that McGruder fired several shots onto his property before trespassing on it and then approaching him. McGruder, who was armed with a pair of firearms, then allegedly threatened to shoot the property owner.

Its a remarkable finding for a couple of reasons.

For one, it provides additional evidence that the recent record-setting pace of gun sales has been at least partially the result of new gun owners. Industry survey data previously suggested that millions of Americans became first-time gun buyers in 2020 and 2021, yet that surge was hard to spot in major media polling early on. The NBC data now add to a growing list of polls to have recently found a significant jump in reported ownership.

A federal court Tuesday struck down a Maryland gun law as overly burdensome, in a win the National Rifle Association (NRA) is calling a significant victory for Second Amendment rights.

On Tuesday, a three-judge panel of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that Marylands Handgun Qualification License (HQL) requirement is unconstitutional, citing the 2022 landmark Supreme Court case that reset how courts treat gun rights cases.

A federal district judge expects to issue a ruling in a case challenging Illinois gun ban registry before the Jan. 1 deadline kicks in. That would come after oral arguments in the case, which are set for the afternoon of Dec. 12.

Illinois banned more than 170 semi-automatic firearms and magazines over certain capacities on Jan. 10 of this year. The law includes a registry requirement for those who owned now banned firearms before the Jan. 10 enactment. That registry opened with emergency rules on Oct. 1 with a Jan. 1, 2024, deadline to register. Those found out of compliance could face criminal penalties.

At the front and center of the debate on firearm possession and use is the AR-15 style weapon, where a line of demarcation has been drawn.

One side wants to own and use those guns publicly. The other side wants them banned publicly and for protection purposes. The AR-15 style weapon is essentially a weapon for war. There is no war in our country. No one needs to have those guns for protection.

The Silver Valley Task Force determined that evidence at the scene suggested the firearms had been fired out of the residence toward other houses in the community. Law enforcement personnel were grateful the search warrant was executed safely for all involved.

The Shoshone County Sheriffs Office made a statement saying it is pro-Second Amendment rights, but will enforce cases involving a felony possession of firearms.

Most of us are good at imaging, say, what wed do after winning the lottery. Or how wed use our incredible wealth and power if only we were Elon Musk, or Beyonce, or the President. But we are not as proficient at imaging a Sudanese mother trying to feed her family in a war zone, (sorry; wrong continent) or the terror of a Venezuelan immigrant fleeing his country, (tough; higher walls) the struggle of a family with a transexual child (nope; male or female) or a fathers despair after his daughter is gunned down in her kindergarten class (woah; Second Amendment rights.)

Mr. Miller is a long time conservative activist and public speaker who is best known for his classes on the US Constitution which he has given in Yavapai County and throughout the state. In the past year he has spoken regularly at the monthly meetings of the Verde Valley Republican Club. As Director of the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association he has been an outspoken critic of Second Amendment restrictions proposed by the Biden Administration such as increased background checks, longer waiting periods, limits on the size of magazines, and so-called Red Flag laws.

As it turns out, the dozens of articles implying that Black Americans Flock to Gun Stores and Clubs can be traced back to a gun lobbying groups demonstrably meaningless promotional materials. In other words, the widely reported 58 percent statistic is a shambut its impact is real. The false narrative it props up will lead to more gun purchases by anti-Black racists, more accidental and self-inflicted gun deaths in Black communities, and more unjustified fears of Black Americans.

Again. though, I'll soon be back on stage. Not everyone is hostile to my politics. I would do an emoji here, but that's not how we roll.

Regarding the other part of the headline: do whatever you have to do as far as personal protection. The world has lost its mind, and it isn't wrong to ponder worst-case scenarios. In theory, the Second Amendment still applies in all 50 states. If you don't have a gun and live in one of the states that makes it onerous to exercise your Second Amendment rights, do whatever you have to do in order to get the process for buying a gun going.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. C. S. LEWIS
