Eric Kleins first job was in a gun shop in northern New Jersey. He was fifteen years old. Everyone thinks of New Jersey as Newark, he says from his house at Brays Island Plantation, a 5,500-acre sporting-focused community near Beaufort, South Carolina, where live oaks frame Lowcountry views of maritime forest and marsh beyond the windows. But that was wild country up there, with a heritage very much like the South. Everyone hunted. Clerking in a gun shop was a dream come true, but Klein, who is now seventy-two, recalls one of his earliest tasks with a nearly palpable shudder.

Two of the nations leading gun rights organizations have called for a national dialogue on how police respond to active shooter incidents in public places in the wake of the tragic Thanksgiving shooting of an armed citizen who was mistaken for the person who had just wounded two people at the Riverchase Balleria Mall in Hoover, Ala.
The Second Amendment Foundation and Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms will be working with Gun Talk Media to make this conversation happen, according to SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb, and Gun Talk Media founder and host Tom Gresham. |

More than four years after initially filing a challenge to the long-standing ban on interstate handgun sales to law-abiding citizens from other states, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has petitioned the Supreme Court of the United States to review the case.
What began in July 2014 as a lawsuit naming then-Attorney General Eric Holder as the defendant, the case now known as Mance v. Whitaker comes out of the Fifth Circuit, where a federal district court ruled that the interstate handgun transfer ban is facially unconstitutional, which was subsequently reversed by a Fifth Circuit panel. |

It's a potential faceoff between bullets and thousands of hockey pucks at Oakland University.
The Auburn Hills university began equipping its faculty and some students with hockey pucks this month as a "last resort" precaution to throw at any active shooters on campus, officials say.
Gordon, a former youth hockey coach, said since the university has an ordinance against weapons, one attendee asked what staff and students could bring to prepare themselves for a fight. He recalled once being struck in the head with a puck and said it "caused a fair amount of damage to me."
Submitters note: If they have an ordinance against weapons, what is the worry? If you are throwing hockey pucks, wouldn't they be classified as "weapons"? |

I have been around guns and shooting for more than half a century, which means Ive seen a lot of shooting fads come and go. While I might be an old dog, I can still learn new tricks, and I am always trying to improve my shooting skills. Unlike a lot of folks in my generation, I try not to get too set in my ways, at least when it comes to shooting and staying current. I am always doing my best to keep up with new developments, new techniques and new guns. |

As a kid, I really enjoyed my subscription to Smithsonian magazine. Then the magazine grew worse and more leftist. The last time I picked up an issue, it was indistinguishable from Newsweek. So I'm not too surprised. But an issue like this is blatant political activism by a taxpayer funded organization. It's also an attack on the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

South Dakota is a deep red state. It should have passed Constitutional Carry years ago. Constitutional Carry is a reform of gun laws restrictions to approximate the restrictions in place when the Bill of Rights was adopted in 1791. Actually, it did. More than once. But Republican governor Dennis Daugaard vetoed a Constitutional Carry bill on March 17, 2017. This wasn't the first time. It was a long-standing performance. Governor Daugaard vetoed his first Constitutional Carry bill in 2012. In between, Daugaard was certain to lobby against Constitutional carry and get it killed with legislative maneuvers.

Using his speech at the annual Human Rights Campaign dinner as an opportunity to air grievances, former Vice President Joe Biden railed against conservative segments of American society. Despite losing in the courts and in the court of public opinion, these forces of intolerance remain determined to undermine and roll back the progress you all have made, Biden said, alluding in particular to same-sex marriage and other LGBT causes. This time theynot youhave an ally in the White House. Theyre a small percentage of the American people, virulent people. Some of them are the dregs of society.

There may be fewer guns under the Christmas tree this holiday season as firearms background checks fell on Black Friday after setting a single-day record last year. The FBI said checks were down more than 10 percent on Black Friday this year. There is no exact count of firearms sold in America, but a common barometer is the bureaus National Instant Criminal Background Check System. There were 182,093 firearms checks on the annual shopping day, as compared to 203,086 in 2017.

Shortly after Washington voters passed an initiative that represents the most expansive gun control regulations of any state, Republic Police Chief Loren Culp declared his town a sanctuary city from the law. The City of Republic will not enforce any of the rules or regulations that violate citizens rights to include the Second Amendment and the Article 1 Section 24 of the state Constitution which states that the right of the individual citizen to bear arms in defense of himself or the state shall not be impaired and this definitely impairs the constitutional rights of citizens, Culp said.

On the third weekend of every month is the Austin Highway Gun Show, where there are rows of tables with vendors with guns laid out for inspection and purchase. Would-be buyers slowly stroll through the venue, gazing at the pistols, rifles, semiautomatics and shotguns. While some guns are not purchased from a dealer with a Federal Firearms License, many are and for those sales, its required that the customer complete a 4473 form. And once someone fills it out, it goes into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. When its approved, the gun is sold.

Recently you may have completed a concealed carry course and received your license to carry. Or perhaps maybe youve had a carry license for a while and youre in the market to purchase a serious carry gun. Whatever the reason, your decision to carry in todays world is well founded. The options for the selection of a concealed handgun can be almost endless. Too often I see students show up with a handgun that the gun shop sales clerk says is right for them including the age old misconception that if youre a woman the best gun for carry is a revolver. Well maybe and then again maybe not.

Diamonds and Dogs has nothing to do with being glamorous and everything to do with a special bond developed between a dog and its handler. Women from the Brainerd area traveled every Tuesday this past summer to Pine Shadows to train their dogs with other members of their gun club. Summer was the time when the women trained their dogs to flush birds, get used to the sound of a gunshot and follow basic commands.
