The Portland Oregonian is reporting a new homicide record in the Rose City, with 93 slayings as of Thanksgiving, surpassing the previous record of 92 for last year.
And there is still just over one month remaining in 2022. For the city where the anti-gun Lift Every Voice Oregon is headquartered, on the heels of their successful grassroots campaign to pass Measure 114, it may be a bad omen. |

Often times the drills and courses of fire we use for training and practice have us stuck shooting silhouettes and bullseyes. While these certainly have significant training value, it can get a bit monotonous. Every now and then its nice to change things up a little bit, both visually as well as practically. One of my favorite ways to do this is with the Casino Drill. |

It is now illegal to possess a firearm in or near public places in Montgomery County, Maryland. This includes schools, parks, libraries, healthcare facilities, and places of worship. The new law also applies to those with Maryland State Police-issued wear and carry permits. The Montgomery County Council has passed the legislation unanimously, one of the strict concealed carry laws in the state of Maryland. The new measure also removes an exemption that allows individuals with certain handgun permits to possess handguns within 100 yards of a place of public assembly. |

I find the firearms industry endlessly amusing for this simple fact: every few years, a new generation of shooters think they are cutting edge with some newly adopted technology or technique, yet those who study the history of the craft realize that the current hotness was the hotness about fifteen years ago, only to be abandoned at that time for the newest shiny object. |

Regardless of where you go for firearm information, some form of gun testing is likely to figure into the results you dig up. Consumer appetites for this information are just as vigorous as in other industries. After all, who doesnt appreciate a thorough review of products before laying out money for one? While firearm publications spend much time focusing on the specifications and performance evaluations of different guns, ammunition and the occasional optic or sound suppressor, one critical component to modern-firearm designsthe detachable magazineoften gets little attention. Just like car tires, magazines are components that are required for proper function of larger systems. |

RIO was established by parent company MAXAM Outdoors in 1896, a global leader in the explosives industry and provider of munitions to more than 60 countries. They entered the American market at long last in 2002, and are now considered a major international player in shooting sports. Curiously, RIOs parent company MAXAM was founded by Alfred Nobel, who is both the inventor of TNT and the founder of the Nobel Prize, which, of course, includes the Nobel Peace Prize. |

A few years ago, I was introduced to long-range cowboy shooting. One of the events involves shooting a lever-action rifle at a steel target 150200 yards away. While I didnt participate in the match, I could check out what the other competitors used to make the steel ring. In many cases, they used a Winchester 1886 or similar.

At SHOT Show 2020, a trip to the Beretta booth would have gotten an early look at the new, built-for-competition 92X Performance pistol. The all-steel frame Beretta 92 variant was built for competition right out of the box with extended controls, fiber-optic front sight, checkering on the front and back straps and using the Brigadier slide. Beretta followed this up with the 92X Performance Defensive model in 2021. This optics-ready all-steel frame variant was also designed for competition and specifically to make weight in IDPA Carry Optics division. |

At least 31 people have been shot, six fatally, in Thanksgiving weekend violence across Chicago, police said. A woman was fatally shot and a boy was wounded Friday night in South Deering on the Far South Side. Kristen Carr, 41, and the boy, 14, were walking through a vacant lot in the 2300 block of East 100th Street about 9:50 p.m. when someone driving a black SUV approached them and opened fire, police and the medical examiner's office said. |

The .44 S&W Special has been called one of the most accurate and versatile cartridges ever made, yet its popularity never soared as high as other revolver rounds. Even so, the .44 Special, as its commonly called, has withstood the test of time over 100 years since its conception, and can still be found on gun store shelves across America. This cartridge provides shooters a round that they can use for self defense, hunting, target shooting, and recreational fun. |

I say just as useful because whenever I find myself in the dark looking for potential animals to hunt, looking around through my riflescope is not only cumbersome but dangerous. The BinoX binoculars allow the user to safely scan the surrounding environment to identify potential targets, and it also gives you additional information that will help you make a better shot when the time comes. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to permit the conquered Eastern peoples to have arms. History teaches that all conquerors who have allowed their subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by doing so. Indeed I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police. German troops alone will bear the sole responsibility for the maintenance of law and order. Adolf Hitler, April 11, 1942. (Source: "Hitler's Table-Talk at the Fuehrer's Headquarters 1941-1942", Dr. Henry Picker, ed. (Athenaeum Verlag, Bonn, 1951).) |
