Grand Rapids Community College police have identified the origin of a fully-loaded handgun magazine found in a campus bathroom Wednesday, Nov. 1. How it got there remains under investigation.
The magazine and ammunition inside belong to the Kentwood Police Department, according to Kentwood Chief Tom Hillen.
Hillen confirmed Thursday that the magazine was a spare issued to a detective assigned to a multi-jurisdictional task force. The detective, who often parks his vehicle in Grand Rapids, learned this week that the magazine was missing from his vehicle.
GRCC police were notified around 3 a.m. Wednesday that facility personnel located the magazine for a semi-automatic handgun in a bathroom in Cook Hall. |

A muslim terrorist killed eight innocent civilians in New York. He ran over them with a rented truck. This truck violence is the latest shock headline that the mainstream media uses to sell us soap and deodorant. Politicians are selling us spin at the same time. Politicians are in the business of selling government services as much as the news media is in the business of selling our attention to their advertisers.
They sold us safety, but we are not safe. We are sold a bag of lies..and we bought them with a smile. Look at the record with me. |

Dont put a bullet in a proposed law enforcement training facility in Howell Township just yet.
The township planning commission heeded objections from residents at an Oct. 24 public hearing and unanimously agreed to recommend denial of a proposed zoning ordinance amendment that would have allowed Mike Paige, owner of Oakland Tactical, to put an open air commercial business on land zoned agricultural residential.
Andrew Sloan said that in his 10 years serving on the planning commission, it was the largest turnout he had seen for a meeting, with about 60 residents in attendance.
Those residents are neighbors to the property, said Sloan, none of whom want Paige to open a shooting range on an abandoned gravel pit.

No charges are being pursued after an elk hunter killed a wolf in self-defense in Union County Oct. 27.
At about 11:30 a.m., an Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife trooper and an Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist responded to the report of an elk hunter, who had self-reported shooting a wolf in Union County, according to an OSP press release. The two responded to the hunters camp in the Starkey Wildlife Management Unit.
The hunter, a 38-year-old man, from Clackamas, told the trooper he had been hunting elk alone, when he repeatedly noticed some type of animal moving around him. |

Juan Ramirez walked out of the Manatee County Judicial Center a free man Thursday afternoon, a little more than two years after he fatally shot another man.
He paused and looked up as the sun shined on his face, still trembling since the verdict was read.
I still cant believe it, Ramirez said in Spanish. Im very grateful to my attorney Richard Reinhart, and to God.
Ramirez never denied shooting Jose Luis Mendoza Aguilar on Oct. 17, 2015, but said that he was in fear for his life. Aguilar was known as the ice cream man in the east Bradenton neighborhood of Manatee Trailer Park, because he sold ice cream and other snacks from his bicycle. |

A Johnson County judge has yet to rule on Wilsons request for immunity based on self-defense. The judge will decide by early next week if hell hold a "mini trial" to determine whether Wilson was justified in his use of deadly force.
Wilsons attorneys say the judge should hold an evidentiary hearing so he can make a decision on dismissing the charges. They say changes to Iowas self-defense law put a judge between the defendant and the prosecutor.
Prosecutors say the new law does not create new pre-trial proceedings. They say if a jury finds Wilson not guilty, the new law could protect him from later lawsuits. |

Outside both of these schools of thought, however, lay those on the "left of left"those with views further left than Democratswho also have strong opinions on what ought to be done about guns.
While a deep commitment to firearm-ownership rights (and an interest in guns) is typically associated with American conservatives, contingents of the far left also advocate against gun-control laws, though with very different philosophies as to why. On the right, the standard line is that American citizens have a right to bear arms, as guaranteed to some extent by the Second Amendment, in order to protect their families and property from would-be invaders. |

Alas, illusion wont win the day. Real grassroots organizations, plus gun-control greed, are killing the bump stock ban, and gun-ban advocates have only themselves to blame. Despite immediate NRA capitulation, grassroots Second Amendment groups are busy thrashing Congress. Accordingly, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) recently demurred on congressional action and even perennial gun banner Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) advised his party to back off. |

With semi-auto firearms, the trigger is reset after each shot and must be pulled for each shot. Federal law and Maryland law already make it a serious felony to sell, possess, transport or transfer an unauthorized machine gun. The attorney general surely knows this, yet he misuses legal terms in a deceptive attempt to equate semi-auto firearms, which have been around since the early 1900s and are as common as rain, with machine guns which are strictly regulated by the government and are exceedingly rare in civilian hands. Make no mistake, Mr. Frosh wants to ban all semi-auto firearms. |

Weve all heard it before: gun control is unconstitutional because the Second Amendment says that the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. But I want to ask: how many of us have actually stopped to consider it?
Notice how the word people is used rather than persons. The Oxford Dictionary defines people as a human beings in general or considered collectively. Person, on the other hand, is defined as a "human being regarded as an individual." It is clear from this that the Second Amendment describes a collective right, not an individual right. |

Indeed, among others, these liberties were regarded by 18th-century Americans as part of their unalienable birthright as heirs to the British settlement. Instead, Madison was addressing a question of structure; specifically, Did a government that had never been granted certain powers need to be explicitly stripped of those powers?
The details, give or take, were broadly agreed upona fact that Madison made sure to note aloud. Before outlining his proposed additions, he assured the House that he had included only those rights, against which I believe no serious objection has been made by any class of our constituents. |

Something's wrong when both sides can claim victory.
That's especially true when the hot-button issue is gun owner rights and the Second Amendment.
Yet that's what happened this week after a legislative study committee voted 15-5 along party lines, Democrats opposed, to recommend removal on restrictions for firearms, but did not go so far as to endorse the repeal of Indiana's gun licensing requirement to carry a handgun. |

For Gov. Kenneth E. Mapps order of Sept. 4, 2017, put them not just at the mercy of nature, but also of those who would exploit the chaos of the storm to victimize the vulnerable. Mapp activated the National Guard to maintain or restore public order, and to guarantee the safety of life and property. But he went further, shockingly decreeing, The Adjutant General is authorized and directed to seize arms, ammunition and any other property that may be required by the military forces for the performance of this emergency mission. |

Based on my experience as a former Louisiana insurance commissioner, I can also tell readers that the cost of such proposed gun liability insurance would not come cheap. New York is presently considering in their legislature a proposal to require every gun owner to have a minimum of $1 million in liability coverage.
I have not sat down with insurance actuaries to figure out specifically what the premium would be, but I would estimate that a gun owner is looking at a minimum of $2,000 a year to pay for such insurance. The insurance premium could be significantly more for someone living in the inner city. Such a cost would price the ownership of a gun outside the reach of the average citizen. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
The right of a citizen to bear arms, in lawful defense of himself or the State, is absolute. He does not derive it from the State government. It is one of the high powers" delegated directly to the citizen, and `is excepted out of the general powers of government.' A law cannot be passed to infringe upon or impair it, because it is above the law, and independent of the lawmaking power." [Cockrum v. State, 24 Tex. 394, at 401-402 (1859)] |
