Rules to better ensure gun safety do not threaten the Second Amendment. Michigan has reasonable regulations in place to make sure those who are awarded concealed carry permits have a passing understanding of how to handle a handgun, and a familiarity with the states firearms laws.

Those rules should remain in place.

Republicans in the state Legislature want to scrap the training requirement of the CCW law, allowing those who want to carry a concealed weapon to do so without demonstrating a competency in the safe workings of a pistol or revolver.

That would be little different than dumping the test required before a drivers license is issued. Both work to protect the operator and the public.

From studying history, we know that the gunfighters of the Old West usually used a point-shooting technique in their fights. That is, they raised the handgun to eye level and looked across the top of it, only referring to the sights if they were shooting at longer distances. Other popular terms for this defensive shooting method, hip shooting, instinctive shooting and shooting from retention, are not really descriptive. Hip shooting is only one type of point shooting. And there is nothing instinctive about shooting a gun; it is a technique that must be learned.

Armed citizens "absolutely" distracted police by drawing guns during the Colorado Walmart shooting on Wednesday night that left three dead, police saidthe latest example of law enforcement struggling to deal with armed civilians in the middle of a crisis.

In the midst of the Colorado manhunt, police officers wasted precious minutes poring over surveillance footage, becoming frequently distracted because the tape showed several armed people whose movements needed to be tracked before cops could rule out each as a suspect, reported The Denver Post.

Prosecutors say a man's shooting death in South Carolina was an act of self-defense.

Spartanburg County Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Bobo said in an email that officers were called to a home in Wellford around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bobo said officers found 44-year-old Bryan Paul Blackwell of Landrum, who died from a gunshot wound.

Bobo says officers also found a Wellford man with serious stab wounds. Bobo says the stabbing victim said he was attacked by Blackwell, who he shot.

My oldest daughter, Sharaia, she went back into her bedroom, got her gun and came back out. She cocked her gun. He looked up, and he heard it, got scared and ran. I told her instantly to start shooting him. So she started shooting him in the hallway. He managed to make it out the front door. Once he got to the last step, she got him one more time, and he fell. We left. We went back in the house to check on the kids. We came back out, and he was gone.

Spartanburg police told Fox Carolina the suspect, Samuel Jeter, had been shot four times in the buttocks.

Following one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history in Las Vegas, State Rep. Nick Marshall, R-Parkville, was critical of the political rhetoric and expressed his discontent in an Oct. 2 Missourinet article.

"When it comes to automatic weapons, thats a federal issue as you know," Marshall said.

"The pain does start to grow on a daily basis," he said. "Especially the more active that I try to be, and it could get worse."

Hoffman wants to take advantage of the new state law, but a federal one states medical marijuana patients cannot own or buy a gun.

"I will never give up my Second Amendment rights for anything," he said. "Period."

So Hoffman returns to his woodwork, choosing to bear the pain while keeping his right to bear arms.

"I'm on Prozac, too, and I didn't lose my rights to have a weapon or buy a weapon because of that," he said.

At the outset, the report asserts that in relation to crime perpetrated with firearms, Chicago is in many ways a microcosm of a national epidemic. This is not true. In 2016, Chicagos murder rate was more than five times the national average. Moreover, Chicagos murder problem is so acute that it drives statistical analysis of urban violence nationwide. Research from the NYU School of Laws Brennan Center for Justice published in December 2016, noted, The 2016 murder rate is projected to be 14 percent higher than last year in the 30 largest cities. Chicago is projected to account for 43.7 percent of the total increase in murders.

The easy question is why didnt the off-duty warden with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department use bear spray?

Automatically, the rhetorical defensive posture being staked out is this: Well, whether he should have used bear spray or a gun to resolve the encounter doesnt matter. He felt threatened and hes alive. He fired in self-defense. You cant judge him because you werent there.

This is precisely the kind of attitude, however, that worries large numbers of American citizens and wildlife conservationists who doubt the state of Wyomings ability to steward grizzlies in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Ed.: How dare humans defend ourselves.

The reason she had come here, to the banquet room of McKenzies Barbecue, was that the other two dozen people in the room were more or less just like her
otherwise liberal Democrats who happen to feel just as passionately about the Second Amendment as they do about, say, universal health care. They are members of the Liberal Gun Club, perhaps the oddest crossbreed in American politics. (The Jews for Jesus of politics, one LGC member joked to me.) All of them had endured some version of the story that OQuinn told about what had driven her to search the Internet for people who could understand the isolation she felt.

In the days after a terrorist opened fire on a crowd of people at a Las Vegas country music festivalkilling 58 people and wounding 546 othersthe genre was forced to address its relationship with guns. A small percentage of artists publicly changed their stance on gun control, some distanced themselves from the NRA's country music promotional arm, and Roseanne Cash wrote a powerful gun control op-ed in The New York Times. Others, like Big & Rich's Kenny Alphin, declared their allegiance to firearms and the second amendment.

Massachusetts on Friday became the first state to impose a ban on bump stocks since the deadly shooting at a Las Vegas music festival.

An appropriations bill that included a prohibition on the devices, which are designed to make semi-automatic rifles mimic the firing action of fully automatic weapons, was signed into law Friday by Republican Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito. The Democratic-controlled Legislature gave final approval to the measure on Thursday.

The second amendment to the U.S.A constitution was implemented in 1791 and is defined colloquially as the right to bear arms. The full amendment reads A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. The intention behind the amendment was to ensure the government could never exert total control over its people. By having a people with the right to bear arms, the will of the people would prevail. The citizens of the U.S.A would have the power to overthrow their government by violent force if it was required.

Something happened just days after the Las Vegas mass shooting that makes one almost feel sorry for politicians.

About the time that veteran anti-gun New York Sen. Charles Schumer was trying to exploit the horrendous mass slaying of 58 concertgoers and injuring of hundreds more in an effort to derail the proposed Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, Rasmussen Reports published the results of a rather embarrassing survey.

An overwhelming 74 percent of likely U.S. voters told Rasmussen that politicians who raise gun issues do it to get elected or re-elected. Only 15 percent think politicians talk about guns to actually accomplish something and solve problems.

As the first session of this Congress comes to a close, the media is focusing on the administrations plan for tax cuts. And while its certainly true federal officials have their hands full reigning in the excesses of the last administration, our elected officials need to hear from law-abiding gun owners to ensure that they protect and expand the right to keep and bear arms.

With the clock ticking, its now more necessary than ever to ensure Congress prioritizes action on national reciprocity.
