During the second and third debates, Al Gore blinked on guns. True, he continues to support "common-sense" gun laws. But after relentless attacks on guns, Gore has now begun to utter some new unaccustomed phrases. Who would have thought that a Democratic presidential candidate would say he "respected" people's legitimate desires for having guns in their homes?

"If someone comes in and wants to buy 10 9mm pistols, that's going to ring alarm bells with me. Florida was given a D-plus on its concealed weapons laws by one gun-control watchdog group, the Washington-based Center to Prevent Handgun Violence. One of the main reasons for its low grade: 'Minimal safety training.'
