FULL TEXT BELOW... ------- SARASOTA, Fla. -- A fisherman was cited for killing an alligator nicknamed Elvis who lived in a golf course community's pond.
The man said he stabbed the reptile in self-defense.
Rick Allen Burns, 49, faces up to 60 days in jail and a fine if convicted on a misdemeanor charge of possession of an alligator without a permit.
Five-foot-long Elvis was found dying in October with a hunting knife in its head. A $1,000 reward for information was posted and an anonymous tip led to Burns, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said Friday.
Residents said Elvis first showed up at their pond about 18 months ago, and had never hurt anyone -- or ducks living nearby.
Burns told investigators, however, that he stabbed the alligator after he bit the fisherman's baited hook, then lunged at Burns when he tried to cut the line.
"Some people are not aware of the seriousness of violating Florida's Wildlife Codes and are surprised to find that the FWC takes these situations very seriously," investigator Mike Frantz said in a statement. |

FULL TEXT BELOW... ------- KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) There is little money to be gained from attempting to rob a bank that is still under construction, police say a Marietta man learned on Wednesday.
Michael Donald Marshall, 39, entered the Bank of America and demanded $500 from the tellers while threatening that he had a gun, according to the Kennesaw Police Department.
The employees then told him the bank wasn't open for business and there was no money. Kennesaw Police arrived as Marshall exited the building empty-handed, officers said.
The suspect is charged with armed robbery. During their investigation, police also learned that Marshall had an outstanding warrant for shoplifting in Cobb, Kennesaw Police spokesman officer Scott Luther said.
------- For those who may not know it, Kennesaw, Georgia might be among the silliest places to try to rob anything, let alone an unfinished bank. In Kennesaw, a law requires every home to have a firearm on hand. (There is an exemption for people whose religion requires them to be defenseless targets.) |

FULL TEXT BELOW... ------- NASHUA, N.H. -- A Bedford man wants an apology and a couple hundred dollars from the Nashua police.
Joseph Galibois says police violated his rights by threatening to arrest him when he dressed up as a terrorist and waved a Kerry for president sign to drivers outside a polling place on Tuesday. He said he was trying to illustrate his view that John Kerry was soft on terrorism. He was wearing a ski mask and ammunition bandoleers and carried a plastic squirt gun that resembled an assault rifle.
Police said they ordered Galibois to get rid of the mask, gun and bandoleers because of complaints that he was alarming people. They said he also was creating a traffic hazard.
Galibois filed a complaint Thursday in Hillsborough County Superior Court. In addition to the apology, Galibois says he wants $208 from the police sergeant who confronted him -- a dollar for every Tuesday until the next election. |

If the handgun ban is so effective, why are so many illegal handguns available?
Can anyone really argue that the people stabbed to death would be worse off if they'd used handguns to defend themselves? |
