Mr. Pramuk, your statement that the Supreme Court wrote, “The possession of weapons by individuals is not constitutionally protected” is false. That statement doesn’t exist anywhere in the Miller ruling... In fact, in all the cases the Supreme Court has decided during the past two centuries the court has never written that statement, and hopefully never will.
What the court did say in Miller was that since there was no evidence to show that possession of a sawed-off shotgun had some reasonable relationship to the preservation of a well-regulated militia, the court could not say that the Second Amendment guarantees the right to keep and bear that “specific” type of shotgun. |

Paul's total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.

The $4.2 million represented online contributions from more than 37,000 donors, fundraising director Jonathan Bydlak said Monday night. |

In a letter to William Wellman, superintendent of Big Bend National Park, Patterson said that if the park service submits a winning plan, he would wait on the current Congress to pass needed legislation that would “provide an opportunity to statutorily insure that firearms and public hunting will be allowed on the Christmas Mountains property.”
However, an environmental group spokesmen said the hunting provision might be fatal for the park service, which bars hunting and even prohibits visitors from toting loaded firearms in its parks. For Patterson, the right to bear arms and the ability to hunt in the Christmas Mountains are critical issues, though the public has never had access to that land. |

Historians and British schoolchildren remember Guy Fawkes as the Roman Catholic, anti-Protestant rebel who on Nov. 5, 1605, tried to assassinate King James I by blowing up the Parliament. Supporters of the Republican primary campaign of the libertarian Representative Ron Paul may remember Fawkes as a wildly successful fund-raising gimmick. On Monday, a group of Paul supporters helped raised more than $4.07 million in one day — approaching what the campaign raised in the entire last quarter — through a Web site called ThisNovember5th.com, a reference to the day the British commemorate the thwarted bombing |

Rep. Ron Paul, the libertarian Republican presidential candidate from Texas, says today that he's broken a record: the record for online fundraising in a single day during the pre-convention primary process.
According to Paul's campaign, he raised more than $2.7 million online in 16 hours that ended at 4 p.m. ET. The campaign called that "the largest single-day online primary fundraising effort by a presidential candidate in United States election history."

After recent high-profile campus shootings, students across America have been wearing empty gun holsters to protest laws that prohibit concealed weapons on campus.
The protest was launched by a group of college students, parents and citizens who organized after the shootings at Virginia Tech. The group goes by the name Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. Some backers of the protest say the Second Amendment right to bear arms give students the right to carry concealed weapons on campuses across the country. |

The returns are mixed on Fred Thompson's first two months in the presidential race. The Republican candidate has battled criticism for his light campaign schedule, laid-back style and rambling speeches. He's flubbed questions. He's slipped some in national and early-primary polls.
Yet, he's still competitive with Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and John McCain in many surveys. He turned in a pair of decent debate performances. And he raised $12.5 million over four months from 80,000 donors.

As violent crime continues rising in Arkansas, more Arkansans are arming themselves. They’re prepared to pull the trigger without fully understanding the state's self-defense laws.
Self-defense laws are called castle laws. They give a person the legal right to defend themselves with deadly force, regardless of where they are. Arkansas doesn't have castle laws leaving many self-defense cases for prosecutors and courts to decide.
“You have the right to defend yourself when you feel there is a threat of personal bodily harm or death,” said Dr. Jeff Walker a UALR Criminology Professor. |

Adkins, 48, owns a real estate firm in Jackson and has been taking firearms training since March. Instructor Cliff Cargill said he has had many new students since the Legislature passed a bill last year giving residents expanded legal rights to protect themselves in their homes, cars or businesses.
The so-called "castle doctrine" law removes the requirement that residents must first seek a safe retreat from an intruder before using deadly force. Similar laws have passed in 20 states in just two years, thanks to an intense lobbying effort by the National Rifle Association. |

Daniel Kelly said he and his wife awoke Sunday to a neighbor's dog barking and considerable noise in his back yard. Kelly opened his back door where the bear stood a few feet away. Without the aid of his glasses, Kelly thought it was a burglar and yelled at the figure. Luckily, his two 50-pound chow-chow dogs attacked the bear. Kelly was able to get back in the house and retrieve his 12-gauge shotgun. Kelly, who hadn't fired a gun in 20 years, went back to aid his dogs and once again got too close. The bear again took a swipe at him from close-range before he fired a warning shot. This was enough to scare the bear up a tree. Kelly said the bear, which he had no interest in killing, left soon thereafter. |

(It appears that here is where our problems may have started)...
"...Does the Constitution provide restraint upon the exercise of this power?- The people of every sovereign State posses[s] all the rights and powers of government..."
"...Much of the argument on the side of the petitioner will rest, perhaps, upon certain provisions-not in the Constitution itself, and as originally made, but now seen in the Amendments made in 1789..."
"...In addition to these, there are two preceding amendments which we may also mention, to wit: the second and third. They are thus:
"2. A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed..."

On July 2, Sgt. Dan Powers, a squad leader in the 118th Military Police Company out of Fort Bragg, and his unit were called to investigate a report of a late afternoon explosion in a Baghdad neighborhood. For the unit, it wasn't anything they hadn't seen before. They were on their second tour of duty in Iraq to train Iraqi police officers. The explosion was minor and Powers walked away from the area to deal with the crowd that had gathered. It was then that Powers felt something hit his head. "I wondered briefly if I had been shot," he says. In reality, Powers had been stabbed in the head. And the nine-inch knife was still stuck into the right side of his cranium.

Many have seen this article that appeared recently about New York police officers, who used the department to illegally obtain fully automatic weapons. But was most alarming in the article was this:
The U.S. attorney's office declined to take action on the Albany gun purchases. Federal prosecutors in Albany were briefed about the matter four years ago by the ATF.
So why the double standard? Why are the ATF ignoring illegally obtained fully automatic weapons, yet they are shutting down firearms dealers for clerical errors? |

THE GOOD NEWS: This morning I received an e-mail from Area Supervisor Linda Young alerting me that she will be approving our computerized Acquisition/ Disposition system. We have spent alot of money on this system and countless hours entering the information into the system. On top of that we have modified our system to fit the specifications of the ATF Seattle Field Division. ATF Director of Industry Operations Richard Van Loan had earlier stated that if we would have gotten a computerized system that he would have never revoked our license.
THE BAD NEWS: The ATF is still moving forward on revoking our license. |

Information about illegal guns in Westchester soon might be worth $1,000. County Executive Andrew Spano and District Attorney Janet DiFiore want to launch a 90-day effort that would offer the reward to any resident who provides a tip that leads to the seizure of an illegal gun and the conviction of the person who possessed it. "This would encourage people to give the Department of Public Safety and the District Attorney's Office tips so that we can get illegal guns off the streets," said Susan Tolchin, Spano's chief adviser. |

Why shouldn't one of the most firearms-loving states in America attract gunmakers? Idaho, the only state that specifically protects individuals and manufacturers from "special taxation on the ownership or possession of firearms or ammunition," seems about to become the hot new destination for munitions manufacturers.
Several small gunmakers have already relocated to Idaho. More may be on the way.
In recent weeks, at least one supplier of parts for internationally known weapons-maker Armalite visited southern Idaho to survey potential manufacturing sites.
The reason? Idaho is business-friendly, labor and electricity costs are relatively low, and most Idahoans don't mind having an arms factory in the neighborhood.
