This is a time when leaders up and down the east coast are loudly singing the praises of the National Guard for their rapid deployment and efficient rescue, recovery and security work. Its also a time when people out on Staten Island are hanging on by a thread, with looting and violence being a serious threat on top of the hurricanes destruction. Who in their right mind even suggests that Guardsmen carrying their weapons is an issue at a time like this?

With the political machine finally coming to an end tomorrow, many of us could not be more excited to have our Doritos commercials back over the political ads. Though all ads aside, there is a very real situation for many gun owners as it might be a fight that will be fought over time. It is a possible reality many owners may need to take into consideration. Though none of us have a crystal ball, the reality is that gun control or restriction is in the political light.

Governor Brian Sandoval recently appointed the President of the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society, Karen Summers Layne, to the Nevada Wildlife Commission.

Due to Laynes outspoken opposition to bear hunting and trapping, this appointment has caused an uproar in the pro-gun and pro-hunting community.

The Nevada Wildlife Commission establishes policy on issues vital to hunters such as how elk, mule deer, and other big game species are managed. Additionally, commission tasks include setting annual quotas on how many hunting tags are issued, deciding which hunter groups can use which weapons when hunting certain game, and much more.

Newly-retired Minneapolis, Minn. Police Chief Tim Dolan announced the other day that with some spare time on his hands, he is going to do some volunteer work for what he calls reasonable gun control groups, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Thats an interesting position, considering that legally-armed citizens are typically the strongest supporters of street cops, while one finds gun prohibition groups to be a magnet for the left, and they are not usually first in line to praise police.

However, in America the right to bear arms is not only a motto of the free, but a right protected by the very contract that rules out nation. Thus, when a politician in the U.S. not only advocates that citizens should not have a right to own guns, but spends millions of dollars to affect change in the law, Americans as a whole become wary. Yet, this is exactly what New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has done, in a new report on Nov. 4.

These bills would essentially reinstate a ban from 1994-2004 that made it illegal to manufacture weapons that shared certain features with assault rifles. It also banned the possession of illegally imported or manufactured assault weapons, but did not affect weapons owned before the ban.

While these measures should reduce gun crime in many cases, someone who is set on obtaining a gun will find a way to get it.

An individual who is looking to use a weapon for illegal purposes is already willing to break the law. Not being able to legally purchase a gun will not stop them from getting one.

he VCDL 2012 Federal Candidate Survey was mailed to all 38 candidates running for President, US Senate, and the House of Representatives.

Unfortunately, only 6 of the 38 candidates have responded to the survey.

Failure to return a completed survey frequently indicates indifference, if not outright hostility, toward the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

The Second Amendment revision on the November 6 ballot would change the phrasing for the statute permitting citizens the right to carry and possess arms. The number one change would require strict scrutiny before enacting any law to limit the right to bear arms.

Sen. Neil Riser (R-District 32), who authored the bill, says that the new phrasing would hold laws to a higher standard, protecting the right of each citizen first and requiring a, compelling government interest, being narrowly defined to achieve that intent.

The globalists could make a surprise treaty push for ratification of the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (UNATT). This treaty is coming under the radar since gun control advocates know it could never pass the U.S. Senate after debate in broad daylight.

The gun control advocates assume that private ownership of guns is inherently dangerous. They hope they can achieve their goal of prohibiting private ownership by the covert strategy of a treaty with vague language, and, so far, they have been successful in avoiding media attention.

The man who shot and killed a federal agent took the stand in court to prove he shot the agent in self-defense.

Sixty-nine-year-old James Wonder took the witness stand Monday morning to tell his side of the story when he shot and killed 52-year-old U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent Donald Pettit. "He was screaming at the top of his lungs. I could barely understand what it was," said Wonder from the stand. "It was an enormous amount of profanity."

Why would you reverse the role and put the victim on trial? Ms. Fulton asks, adding the focus should be Mr. Zimmermans intention and mindset because he didnt know her son at all.

As Mr. Zimmermans attorneys prepare to argue he was merely acting in self-defense under a law that allows deadly force if one feels threatened, reality about the loss of Trayvon strikes his family.

The conclusion of the encounter could come during a Stand Your Ground hearing planned for April or May, if Judge Nelson rules in favor of Mr. Zimmermans claim. Or it could come later at his trial for second degree murder, which Judge Nelson tentatively scheduled for June 10.

In the article, Chris W. Cox, Executive Director of the NRAs Institute for Legislative Action, explains that the non-profit organization has taken a strong stance against Obama, due to so-called changes in his approach on gun control. Cox states, Some gun owners took Obama at his word four years ago, when he said he wouldn't take their guns away. So, after years of paying lip service to the Second Amendment, President Obama finally let it slipthat he supports the most draconian form of gun control a gun ban.

The same anti-gun mentality was on display at the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond in late October. Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler's office was appealing a lower court ruling that overturned a key provision of Maryland's restrictive gun law.

According to Woollard v. Sheridan -- filed by Alexandria lawyer Alan Gura, who had successfully argued District of Columbia v. Heller before the U.S. Supreme Court -- and Greenbelt attorney Cary Hansel, representing the Second Amendment Foundation, Navy veteran Raymond Woollard was celebrating Christmas Eve at home in 2002 when his estranged son-in-law broke in, terrorized the family and demanded Woollard's car keys before wresting a shotgun away from him during a scuffle.
