I've always said a shotgun is the best home defense firearm because of its reduced risk of over-penetration, increased stopping power, and accuracy. However, much depends on the shotshells you load into your gun for personal defense. Various projectiles and brands have different ballistics.

To say the Biden Administration speaks with a forked tongue on the Second Amendment is an understatement. But translating the ultimate message is easy: They want your guns, and they will say or do whatever is necessary to get them.

On Thursday, Kamala Harris the nominal head of the White Houses recently-launched Office of Gun Violence Prevention issued a statement on the unfolding events in Lewiston, Me. It was a classic example of doublespeak and dishonesty.

In a 2-1 ruling Friday, a federal appeals court ruled that Illinois assault weapon ban does not violate the U.S. Constitution, setting up a likely appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court. The Second Amendment to the Constitution recognizes an individual right to keep and bear Arms. Of that there can be no doubt, the majority opinion began, citing a string of recent Supreme Court cases. But as we know from long experience with other fundamental rights, such as the right to free speech, the right peaceably to assemble, the right to vote, and the right to free exercise of religion, even the most important personal freedoms have their limits.

A new Rasmussen survey conducted in the aftermath of the Maine mass shooting substantiates what the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms has said for years: Americans think enforcement of existing gun laws would do more to prevent gun-related violence than passing new laws.

Gun safety advocates called for action by state lawmakers Saturday in the wake of the Oct. 25 shootings that killed 18 and injured 13 in Lewiston. About 300 people gathered in Capitol Park across from the State House to make clear their priorities moving forward: an assault weapons ban; a 72-hour waiting period after a gun purchase; universal background checks and a red flag law.

Across the nation, much of the debate around gun rights and restrictions centers on mental health. Many advocates on both sides agree that getting people with serious mental illness into treatment, and then preventing those who are dangerous from accessing guns, is key to preventing mass shootings.

The mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, has left a community reeling, and authorities are still asking questions.Chief among them is the history of warning signs that were seemingly missed by the system and why he was allowed to legally purchase a weapon days before the shooting. They are continuing to respond and continuing to investigate who knew what when, and we want to get the best answer to how can we prevent something like this from happening, said Maine Governor Janet Mills. Back in the spotlight are so-called "red flag" laws intended to allow the court to temporarily confiscate firearms from a person who has been found to be an immediate risk to themselves or others.

I have on several occasions ended up in long discussions with other professionals and law enforcement officers about the concept of CCWers getting OR NOT getting shot by responding officers after a shooting incident. It isn't just a theory, it does happen. I have a number of recorded incidents of it happening, though I have a nearly endless number of incidents in which responding officers did NOT engage the good guy so we can safely consider the idea of cops shooting the good guy as an exception to the rule.
