Proposition 63 would require background checks for the purchase of ammunition, and it would ban large-capacity magazines. It would also make it a felony to steal a gun. Its supporters say it will keep guns and bullets out of the wrong hands while opponents say it imposes costly burdens on law enforcement agencies and taxpayers.

Deacon said she respects the Second Amendment and those who own guns, including the hunters and sportsmen in the 24th District. But she also supports "commonsense gun legislation," including universal background checks, ending straw purchases and preventing criminals and the mentally ill from buying guns.

Question 3 on the Maine ballot aims to prevent bad guys from getting guns. It reads: "Do you want to require background checks prior to the sale or transfer of firearms between individuals not licensed as firearms dealers, with failure to do so punishable by law and with some exceptions for family members, hunting, self-defense, lawful competitions and shooting range activity?" |

I might sound like a single-issue voter, but Im really not. Allow me to explain. Ill almost always support the candidate with a bold and unapologetic history of protecting individual gun rights. Youll notice I said protecting. Thats a critical distinction. No government grants or gives rights. Rights are something we all already own. Period, paragraph, and end of story. So the concept of protecting gun rights is a big deal. The governments job is to preserve the rights, any type of rights, that we already have. |

An elderly Pennsylvania man shot and killed a masked man who broke into his home and demanded money, authorities said. The 81-year-old Uniontown resident awoke at about 1:30 a.m. Friday to find a man in a skull mask standing over him, police said. After a struggle, the resident fired a shot, hitting the intruder in the lower torso, he said. |

Not many things have improved in the last decade or so like scope reticles have. Weve been at it long enough to remember when anything but duplex was exotic, and generally came at a punishing premium. Today, pffft! Whether its BDCs, Mildots, or Horuses (Horii?), if you cant find something that suits your aiming task, we think you havent looked very hard. Nothing wrong with duplex, exactly, but we wanted to teach ourselves something new. Judging by the number of slim, squarish boxes we see exiting local gun shops, we conclude we arent the only folks enamored of dandy glass and calculation-saving stadia. |

It's expected if you're talking about Smith & Wesson Holding (NASDAQ: SWHC) that you're going to focus on its firearms. After all, they make up more than 90% of the company's total net sales and represent some 40% of its gross profits. It's also an iconic gunsmith with a storied history. But these days, you also might want to take a closer at its accessories business, because though it only represents about 10% of sales right now, it sports gross margins of nearly 50%, and Smith & Wesson is determined to make it an even more integral part of its operations in the future. |

On Friday, voters headed to drop off their absentee ballots at a voting location in Virginia's Loudoun County were greeted by a man sporting both a Trump shirt and a gun strapped to his waist, the Huffington Post reported.
"He's like, 'Who are you going to vote for, crooked Hillary?' And I was like, that's really none of your business," Erika Cotti, an active Democrat, told the website.

In three days the elections will be over. I voted long before I wrote this column. Probably anyone who has become emotionally entangled in this election cycle voted as quickly as they could, sort of like a child cramming all the vegetables into his mouth to escape the table. Yet shoving my ballot in the drop box at the county clerks office felt anti-climactic and impotent. One measly vote.

In case of an election night Doomsday, preppers are running up sales of emergency survival food. While sales for "long term food" typically see an increase around natural disasters and elections, "this is more intense than what we saw in 2012," said Keith Bansemer, VP of marketing for My Patriot Supply, a manufacturer and seller of survival food. During the previous election his company saw sales double. This time it's triple. "We have everyone we can on the phones," he said. "We are overwhelmed." |
