Anchorage teenager Grayson Davey teamed up with a California trapshooter to win a gold medal and set an American record the trap mixed event at the Championship of the Americas on Tuesday in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Davey, 17, only missed one target in qualification, hitting 74 of 75. That put him and partner Ashley Carroll of Solvang, California, in second place heading into the finals.
The pair combined for a score of 46 out of 50 in the finals, setting an American record en route to winning the gold medal. Davey and Carroll finished four points ahead of the silver-medal team from Mexico. The other U.S. team, which included Olympic gold medalist Glenn Eller, finished fourth.

The deadly shooting is believed to have been in self-defense, according to police.

It wasnt until noon on Thursday that a police officer told them the news: Their 27-year-old son, Telemachus Orfanos, was dead.
That marked the end of one grim ritual, and the beginning of another, as the Orfanos parents channeled their private anguish into a public cry for gun control a cry that has echoed from Aurora to Newtown and beyond.
But what distinguished their plea was an utter disavowal of the stock response to the violence that claimed their sons life.
I dont want prayers. I dont want thoughts. I want gun control," Susan Orfanos said on local TV. |

The mother of a murder victim making her first run for public office on a gun-control platform has flipped a long-red House seat that Georgia Republicans held onto just last year in what was then the nation's most expensive congressional race.
"We've sent a strong message to the entire country," Lucy McBath tweeted on Thursday after Rep. Karen Handel conceded. "Absolutely nothing no politician & no special interest is more powerful than a mother on a mission," she said. |

Prosecutors have ruled the use of force by a Massachusetts cabbie who fought back after he was attacked by two men seeking to rob him as self-defense.
Bristol County DA Thomas M. Quinn III last week said the unidentified Yellow Cab driver was cleared by his office in the Aug. 10 shooting that left one of his attackers, Christopher Dunton, 24, of New Bedford, dead.
After a thorough investigation, it is clear that the cab driver acted in lawful self-defense and the use of deadly force was justified under the circumstances, Quinn said, as reported by South Coast Today. |

While Republicans controlled Congress, gun rights werent a major issue for them. Several quality pieces of Second Amendment legislation penned by Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C. such as the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 ( H.R. 38), which garnered the support of more than 200 co-sponsors, and the D.C. Personal Protection Reciprocity Act ( H.R. 2909) introduced by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky. werent a priority for retiring Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. |

Senator-elect Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) made her priorities abundantly clear on Thursday morning when a Fox News anchor asked her for a reaction to the deadly mass shooting at bar in Thousand Oaks, California.
Asked by anchor Sandra Smith what America as a country can do to stop incidents like this one, the first thing Blackburn said was: What we do is say, how do we make certain that we protect the Second Amendment and protect our citizens.
The Tennessee Republican went on to say that mental-health issues need to be addressed before bringing up the issue of gun access specifically. |

With the passage of the police deadly force initiative, state lawmakers stood poised Wednesday to join supporters and opponents of the measure in moving to enact a compromise bill agreeable to all of them.
Voters gave strong support in Tuesdays election to Initiative 940, which removes language from state law that made it almost impossible to prosecute law-enforcement officers believed to have misused deadly force. It also requires statewide training of police in de-escalation techniques and dealing with people in crisis. |

Earlier this year, following the tragic events in Parkland, Florida, I introduced legislation (Senate Bill 17) to establish the Pennsylvania Assault Weapons Ban. Military-grade weapons have no place in civilian life and are unnecessary for self-defense. These guns were made to kill people quickly and efficiently. Proven once again on Saturday, Oct. 27. |

Gun control proponents like Gavin Newsom, Californias incoming governor, are irrationally committed to passing more and more laws that just do not prevent violent people from doing evil things. Indeed, he and other anti-gun advocates are the embodiment of insanity, doing the same things over and over again while expecting different results. They make innocent people more and more defenseless and then feign shock when their policies result in predictable and tragic outcomes. |

The simple and undeniable fact is that there is no constitutional authority given to the federal government to restrict purchase of firearms, ammunition, or component parts. In fact, the Second Amendment explicitly proscribes any attempt by the federal government to infringe on the peoples right to keep and bear arms.
Therefore, any attempt to curtail the right of civilians to own and use weapons of any sort is an act of tyranny, no matter how reasonable the supporters try to make it sound.
Besides, reasonable people understand that the ready availability of guns is no more responsible for any armed massacre than an all-you-can-eat buffet is responsible for obesity. |

The Second Amendment Foundation, as well as the NRA, will be challenging I-1639 in the coming months. This announced by founder Alan Gottlieb on The Todd Herman Show Wednesday.
I-1639, which Washington voters approved 60 to 40 percent, is billed as prohibiting the sale of firearms between a licensed gun dealer and anyone under the age of 21. Gottlieb says there are ways around the law.
Its written in a way that puts a chilling effect on gun ownership, but quite frankly, its unenforceable, Gottlieb said. Theres a giant loophole in this law. If they go to Oregon or Idaho, they can bring [a rifle] back. Its totally legal. They just cant buy it in Washington state. |

Macon County will soon be sending a message to all members of the General Assembly: Don't pass stricter gun laws.
The county board on Thursday approved a resolution expressing its opposition to restrictions that could interfere with Second Amendment rights, though officials acknowledged the measure as more of a signal than anything enforceable. The move follows similar steps taken by dozens of downstate counties this year to signal support for gun rights. |
