First off, before we get too wrapped up in semantics, there is no precise definition of what a pocket gun is or isnt. Depending on your physical size and the style of your clothing, a pocket gun might be anything from a .22 derringer to a .45 ACP semi-automatic pistol or, really, anything. In my general estimation, most folks think of smaller guns chambered in .380 ACP or 9mm, though the term can cover a spectrum of calibers. There are even pocket .44 sixguns. Just ask John Taffin!

Not long ago, I heard about an incident I want to bring to your attention. A motorist, traveling outside his state of residence, was the victim of a minor traffic accident. However, during the investigation, an officer found two handguns in his car. The motorist was arrested for carrying without a permit, a felony in that particular state.

The problem was that the motorist had a concealed-carry permit alrightbut only in his home state. This man was not a criminal.

House Bill 855 is known as the Safe Storage Tax Credit Act. The bill sponsor, Democratic State Representative Michelle Au, pre-filed the bill on Wednesday.

All it aims to do is to provide an up to a $300 tax credit for the purchase of safe storage equipment," said Au.

Au said its a companion bill to another gun bill she dropped last session, House Bill 161.

All it (HB 161) does is require that any gun owned by anyone that could be accessed by a minor be secured safely, Au said.

She said both bills aim to keep children safe.

This month we asked you: "What's your relationship with guns?"

We wanted to know if your experiences with guns have affected your views on gun policy, and if your thoughts or feelings have ever changed in response to your personal experiences or events in the news.

We heard stories about hunting and how guns played a part in some people's childhoods or bonding with family. We heard from people who were issued firearms in the armed forces. And we heard from many of you who expressed your concerns about access to guns.

Law enforcement officers involved in line-of-duty shootings and other use-of-force situations are not entitled to shield their identities from the public, even when they insist they were acting in self-defense, the Florida Supreme Court ruled Thursday.

In a 27-page ruling that went further than many analysts expected, the Florida court said the constitutional amendment known as Marsys Law also does not prohibit law enforcement agencies from revealing the names of any crime victims.

As the Court decides the case, it will confront a potentially consequential piece of American history in its analysisnamely, whether the many laws enacted during the Revolutionary War disarming those disaffected to the American causethat is, loyalistssupport upholding the law at issue in Rahimi, 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(8). It is therefore fair to say that some of this countrys earliest national security laws lie at the heart of the case.

A stark difference in how Florida Democrats and Republicans balance gun rights with public safety is shown in bills filed for the 2024 regular session of the Florida Legislature, which begins Jan 9.

The 10 firearms-related proposals include one that aims to repeal the landmark Stand Your Ground law that earned Florida the Gunshine State nickname. It's almost guaranteed to be ignored by the GOP supermajority that controls both chambers in Tallahassee.

The Beretta Tomcat is a .32 Auto that utilizes the Tip Up barrel system. It functions like a standard semiautomatic, but the first round can be chambered by popping the barrel up and inserting the round rather than pulling the slide back.

Langdon Tactical spruced the Tomcat up with a red dot optics cut, trigger job, and carry bevel on the rear of the gun to reduce snags. This model also includes a threaded barrel for suppressor use. LTT currently lists a 1-3 week lead time for the Tomcat. Prices start at $649 for the gun only, $699 with a SIG Romeo, or $849 with a Holosun 407k. You can order one directly from LTT.

Maryland is one of 14 states that require background checks for all firearm purchases, whether or not the seller is a federally licensed dealer. Since 2013, Maryland has imposed an additional requirement on handgun buyers: They must first obtain a handgun qualification license, which entails completing at least four hours of firearm training and undergoing a seemingly redundant investigation aimed at screening out people who are legally disqualified from owning guns.

John Madore, the suspected shooter, previously had been involuntarily committed to New Hampshire Hospital, and questions remain about where and how he got the weapons he had with him during the shooting.

Officials said very limited information about someone's mental health history is looked at in the background check process to buy guns in the state.

"Allowing a prohibited person to get a gun is not in anybody's best interest," Evan Nappen, an attorney and Second Amendment advocate, said.
