"Indeed, just looking at the lack of media reporting on 'Project Gunwalker' in the early days of the storys developmentI was practically begging them to investigate for themselves, telling them what questions to ask and who to ask them of, only to find the few who did show interest acted like they were doing us a favor and then demanded Mike Vanderboegh and I give up our sources now that they, the 'pros,' might look into it"

Two years ago The Washington Post reported that the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency brought dangerous Mexican drug traffickers to the U.S. who, while continuing their criminal activities in Mexico and the U.S., also served as informants to the federal authorities in their war on drugs. In June, Operation Fast and Furious came to light where the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) allowed suspicious straw-purchasers of firearms to buy weapons in the U.S. and smuggle them into Mexico. The purpose was to track the guns all the way to the ultimate buyera Mexican drug trafficking organization. Overall, the ATF facilitated the purchase of hundreds of guns by Mexican cartels.

A senior Republican senator is demanding the resignation of the head of the Justice Department's criminal division over his bungled handling of the "Fast and Furious" debacle. Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley said Wednesday that Attorney General Eric Holder needs to ask for Mr. (Lanny) Breuers resignation and remove him from office if he refuses."
Grassley said Breuer needs to go because of his early denials of the program's details, which allowed guns purchased illegally in the United States to make their way to the Mexican drug cartels. The guns were supposed to be tracked, but agents lost track of many of them.

Documents obtained by CBS News show that the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) discussed using their covert operation "Fast and Furious" to argue for controversial new rules about gun sales.
In Fast and Furious, ATF secretly encouraged gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexican drug cartels to go after the "big fish." But ATF whistleblowers told CBS News and Congress it was a dangerous practice called "gunwalking," and it put thousands of weapons on the street. Many were used in violent crimes in Mexico. Two were found at the murder scene of a U.S. Border Patrol agent.

New York Democratic Rep. Nydia Velazquez admitted she did not know what Operation Fast and Furious was at a Congressional Hispanic Caucus event on Tuesday. When The Daily Caller asked Velazquez if she thinks Fast and Furious was a scandal that rises to the level of a call for Attorney General Eric Holders resignation, she shrugged at first. Then, TheDC asked if she even knew what Fast and Furious was. No, no, Velazquez replied.

"A 53-year-old Magna woman was injured after a man broke into her home Friday morning, punched her in the face and tied her up before running off with her debit card.

Hoyal said the woman found the man in her living room armed with a hammer and knife. She confronted the man and the two argued before the man punched her in the face, bloodying her nose and lip, and tied her up with rope, Hoyal said.

The man demanded her debit card and pin number, which the woman provided, and fled on foot."

Submitter's note: Gee, why would you need a QUICKLY ACCESSIBLE firearm in your own home. She's damn lucky he didn't do worse to her.

The Virginia Tech incidents occurred on just one campus, in just one state. Similar events have occurred on campuses throughout the country, each one a gun-free zone. How many more such incidents will need to occur before college administrators realize that gun bans simply do not protect the students, faculty, and staff from unpredictable acts of gun violence?

Floridas Stand Your Ground law is being tested in Collier County as a defense for a 15-year-old who stabbed a fellow high school student to death during a fight.

Its part of a continuing debate over the 2005 law, which critics think is opening the door to unjustified killings. Even gang members charged with killings in turf wars in Tallahassee in 2008 used the law to get their homicide charges thrown out.

The bills text, in its infinite vagaries and self-contradictions, subtly allows the government to arrest American citizens on American soil and hold them indefinitely and without trial or any form of due process all on the pretense of being an amorphously-defined enemy combatant. Authored by Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz) and Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich), the bill was passed in the Senate 93-7 on Dec. 1st without amendment.

Overturning this prohibition in Illinois is long-overdue, Rep. Johnson said. Law-abiding citizens deserve the right to protect themselves. Over 100 years of Supreme Court rulings and the 14th Amendment guarantee that no state can deny the rights and privileges of any citizen. The Second Amendment could not be more clear on this issue. Forty-nine other states understand this and have reasonable policies in place to ensure that only law-abiding people willing to go through authorized safety training are permitted this right. The only reason Illinois is the exception is Cook County. This is not acceptable.

FBI statistics show that a new record was set during that one Friday for background check requests from gun buyers. There were 129,166 requests to the NICS. That was a third more than the previous all-time record of 97,848 on Black Friday 2008. On Black Friday last year, there were 87,061 requests.

First, I would like once again to thank Ron Stanker for his generous matching fund pledge. I am happy to say that thanks to everyone who donated, we were able to meet the challenge and the entire $500.00 was matched and received.

We have been offered an additional $500.00 matching pledge from our newest sponsor Arms n-Ammo. They have given us until the January 11, 2012 meeting to match their pledge. Once again, I ask you to be as generous as you can be in helping us to reach this goal. Also please consider this sponsor when making your next purchase. Remember to tell them you heard about them from the NJ2AS.

But there was one statistic that came out of this year's Black Friday that pleased me immensely: gun sales were up. Way up. Crazily up.

FBI background checks for that day smashed all previous one-day sales by 32 percent. Background checks totaled 129,166 on this year's Black Friday, compared to the next closest record of 97,848 on Black Friday of 2008. And the actual number of firearms sold, let it be known, was even higher for two reasons: one, background checks are not performed during transactions between individuals (i.e. someone buying a surplus gun from a friend); and two, a buyer can purchase multiple firearms under the clearance of a single background check.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them. Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States; With a Preliminary Review of the Constitutional History of the Colonies and States before the Adoption of the Constitution [Boston, 1833].
