Tatiana Duva-Rodriguez, who was licensed to carry a concealed weapon, said she heard a scream and feared the incident was worse than a theft. She acknowledged the shooting in the parking lot was a mistake.

"I made a decision in a split second," the 46-year-old Clarkston woman told a judge. "Maybe it was not the right one, but I was trying to help."

Her gunfire flattened a tire on the thieves' SUV on Oct. 6 at a Home Depot in Auburn Hills. No one was hurt.

Duva-Rodriguez's permit to carry a concealed weapon is revoked until at least 2023. Defense attorney Steven Lyle Schwartz said she's a "sharpshooter."

Submitters note: It doesn't sound reckless to me. She hit what she was aiming at, and didn't endanger anyone.

Sheriffs Endorse Concealed Carry after Terrorist Attack

Sheriffs across the country spoke up after the mass public murder in San Bernardino, California. They are going public with their support of concealed carry and citizen self-defense. This makes sense for at least two reasons.

The first is practical. An armed citizen can protect themselves long enough for the police to get there. They need our help just as we need theirs.

The second reason is political. These sheriffs are elected by the people rather than being appointed by big-city mayors. The sheriffs dont have to toe the party line and can speak their mind.

Ill let the sheriffs speak for themselves. Here is what they said.

AUSTIN, Texas - Concealed handguns would be mostly barred from University of Texas dormitories but not from classrooms under recommendations presented to the school president.

UT President Greg Fenves will review the recommendations, offered Thursday, before a final vote of approval by university regents.

Texas state lawmakers are requiring public universities to allow concealed handgun license holders to bring weapons on campus starting Aug. 1, 2016.

The panel that developed the recommendations says its members don't want guns in classrooms, but a ban would violate Texas law.

Submitters note: It would seem to me that a ban on guns in dormitories would also violate Texas law.

Since 1911, the United States military has really leaned on two pistols. One was the legendary M1911 pistol designed by John Moses Browning and it held the line for 75 years. The other was the M9 Beretta, which has taken many of the roles the M1911 fills. Note, the M1911 has still stuck around as the MEU(SOC) pistol only now, it is designated the M45.

The PSA, called We Can End Gun Violence, features public safety officers and Second Amendment experts such as Sarah Silverman, Amy Schumer, Nathan Lane, Debra Messing, Kevin Bacon, Michael J. Fox, Olivia Munn, Sofia Vergara, Julianne Moore, and Jennifer Aniston.

Ignoring the fact that the San Bernardino attacks were committed by muslim terrorists in a gun free building, these celebrities are putting their fame to good use by telling people that the only solution to ending gun violence in the real world is for everyone to only use guns to make a living or to get laughs.

As President Obama and Democrats in the House and Senate push a no-fly list recently rejected by The Washington Post and berated as unconstitutional by the Los Angeles Times, one thing is certain: the push comes at a time that conveniently distracts attention from the failure of Democrat-sponsored gun controls in California.

Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) criticized politicians who call for more gun restrictions saying, The most effective defense against an armed terrorist is an armed American.

Ever since the terrorist attack in San Bernardino, leftist politicians have called for more restrictions on gun ownership for Americans, McClintock told the House on Thursday. These are the same politicians who have worked for years to open our nation to unprecedented and indiscriminate immigration from hotbeds of Islamic extremism."

When things go bad for Democrats as seems to be happening more often they end up at the same old watering hole seeking relief in the same old way.

The Donkey Party slouches into Whiny McFailures Corner Bar, slumps down on a stool and says, Barkeep, gimme the usual. What gets slammed down on the bar is a full tumbler of 80-proof Gun Control Select Reserve, followed by a chaser of Old-Time Climate Change, with (of course) no ice.

But Californians are subject to the most restrictive gun laws in the country, making it very difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their Second Amendment right to defend themselves, he said. And in a society denied its right of self-defense, the gunman is king.

Among the proposed restrictions advocated by President Barack Obama and rebuffed by Congress is to ban those on the federal governments terrorist no-fly list from being able to purchase a gun. On Thursday, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said he would sign an executive order doing so. And last week, California Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Los Angeles, said he would carry such a bill when the Legislature returns next month from its winter recess.

Notably, however, Obama failed to recognize the primary source of home defense against terrorists: an armed citizenry.

Terrorism, as the world has seen, is unique: there are no uniforms or borders identifying the enemy and no warning. Military and police cannot instantly defend against terrorism in the homeland. Citizens are the only protectors ready and able to first respond in self-defense.

One man is dead after a shooting in Evanston and the man who pulled the trigger claims it was an act of self-defense.

The shooting happened at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of Jonathan Avenue.

Police said a contractor claims he and a partner were working on a home when a man tried to rob them.

The man told officers that when his partner went to get some more tools, a stranger came up and tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Acknowledging "momentum" behind a proposal that would allow people with concealed-weapons licenses to openly carry guns, the Florida Police Chiefs Association said Thursday its board of directors had voted to back the controversial measure as long as changes designed to protect law-enforcement officers are included.

Ed.: The changes they want are anti-gun and anti-4th Amendment.

Government can't find big needle in small haystack

As we know from the tragedy last week in San Bernardino, California, the government's strategy and practices failed to keep us safe. The governmental failure at San Bernardino was the confluence of a state government with antipathy and animosity toward the natural right of self-defense and a federal government attempting to devour far more data than it can handle.

The San Bernardino killings -- like those in Newtown, Connecticut; at Virginia Tech; in Roseburg, Oregon; and in Paris -- occurred on or near government property where lawful guns were banned. These no-gun zones are the most dangerous places on the planet when a person armed to the teeth and determined to kill enters upon them.

OH: Will any school board have guts to arm teachers?

The only remaining question is whether any school board will have the guts or brains required to arm volunteer teachers. In 2013, Policeone.com did a survey of 15,000 police officers. Eighty percent of the officers agreed with arming and training volunteer teachers and administrators. Ninety percent agreed that casualties would be decreased if armed citizens were present at the outset of an active shooter incident. But what do police officers know about guns, violence and self-defense?

The sales volume doubled this year compared to 2014 in weapons stores across the country according to the German Association of Gunsmiths and Weapons Sellers (VDB), which conducted a random telephone survey among its 1,100 members.

Williams decided to create Christian Carry Pins.

"I wear these pins as you notice saying I'm Christian and I carry weapons," said Bobby Dodd who shoots at the range five days a week.

Mr. Sullivan brings forward a potential key to assembling political consensus on gun legislation. A lot of Americans are still upset about government-mandated low-flush toilets and the phase-out of incandescent light bulbs, so resistance to gun control should not be surprisingEven at gunpoint, theyre not about to back down from their belief that everything the government does is evil.

Today Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy made an announcement that he would declare an executive order that would prevent anyone that is on yet-to-be-named, secret watch lists from exercising their right to armed self-defense by purchasing or carrying a firearm.

The very idea that Governor Malloy seeks to remove constitutional rights without due process using these secret watch lists is despicable and unconstitutional.

The State of Kansas is five months into a significant change to their guns laws.

But instead of tightening controls, they've allowed more guns in public.

On July 1st of this year a new law went into effect that authorized constitutional concealed carry.

That means any adult over 21-years of age can carry a concealed weapon, without special training or a permit.

On Wednesday, Liberty University announced that it is ending a ban on firearms in residence halls on campus as a way to keep students safe in the wake of the recent deadly terrorist attacks in San Bernardino, California.

It is important to note that the Lynchburg, Virginia campus is known for its conservative and Christian values. Students, faculty, and staff who have concealed carry permits recognized in the state of Virginia have been allowed to carry concealed firearms on campus since 2011 according to reporting by the Washington Post. In addition, students have the ability to take conceal carry classes on campus free of charge.

In the first part of this essay (published earlier this week at Barbwire.com) I revisited the logic of the 2nd Amendment, in light of the terrorist attack in Sen Bernardino, Ca. What I wrote there may lead you to feel gloom and despair. But I hope it also leads you to protest. Your protest will bear witness to the American heart within you, which despises the mentality of helpless passivity and victimization some of our so-called leaders mean to impose upon us. It will bear witness against the assumption that, when enemies strike against our families, friends and neighbors, our own readiness, will and courage have no role to play in defending them.

The politicians who are simultaneously supporting Second Amendment restrictions and the no fly list are using the former as means of arriving at the latter. Its nothing but a backdoor attack on the Second Amendment.

Every American should be concerned with this.

Earlier this week President Obama addressed the nation. In his speech he stated, that theres no good reason to let a terror suspect buy a firearm. Lets cut right through the hyperbole, this no fly list has NOTHING to do with preventing terrorists from buying guns at federally licensed dealers. It has everything to do with stopping and suppressing American gun ownership.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
I now think the only way to control handgun use is to prohibit the guns. And the only way to do that is to change the Constitution. M. Gartner, then President of NBC News, USA Today, January 16, 1992, pg. A9
