"If you're a member of the National Rifle Assn. as well as the AMA, you might have seen my picture recently in the NRA journal, taking up a full page. It was my inaugural address that drew the group's attention. I said it's about time we acknowledged the scourge of gun violence in our nation, just as we would any other public health crisis, such as polio, tobacco or drunk driving..." --Richard F. Corlin, MD AMA president

OSLO, NORWAY - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan used the occasion of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize lecture on Monday to make an impassioned case for the continued importance of the United Nations as a promoter of peace and a champion of individual rights in an unstable and unequal world.

"...I believe the mission of the United Nations will be defined by a new, more profound awareness of the sanctity and dignity of every human life...," Annan said.

Capitol Hill (CNSNews.com) - It's not unusual for members of Congress to use current events as a springboard for legislation they want to pass, but critics are denouncing liberal senators for using the Sept. 11 attacks to promote registration of law-abiding gun owners.

NRA Alert: "A concerted assault on gun shows will be launched in January, if not sooner. NRA members and the rest of the pro-gun community must continue to contact their federal lawmakers to object to the passage of S.890, the Lieberman-McCain bill, and S.767, the Reed bill, as well as any other legislation that would end gun shows as they currently exist. Remind your elected officials that the war on terrorism will not be won by attacking the rights of American citizens."

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Dec. 10) The Supreme Court will be asked to consider the Second Amendment for at least the fourth time in two dozen years. Odds are they will again decline, but this time could be different...

Dr. Timothy Emerson of San Angelo, Texas, won the most important Second Amendment decision in history a Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals panels 2-1 declaration in October that the right to keep and bear arms applies to individuals, not to states or the National Guard.

"As soon as one infringement was recorded against the Second Amendment for any reason, the door was opened for all the others and it hasnt been closed yet. And it wont be until they all declared unconstitutional. The frightening thing is that very few people see it that way. Most of the staunchest supporters of the Second Amendment still think that some infringements are perfectly fine." --Deborah Venable

"Black-powder guns are exempt from state guns laws meant to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals or those with mental conditions that would preclude them from gun ownership."

To all the gun owners out there that consider themselves "sportsmen" and support restrictions on "assault weapons" or handguns (after all, they'll never go after your duck gun, or cowboy rig, right?) this one's a wake-up call for you.

Your Single Action Army is about to be just as regulated as my Glock.

"In testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, he ruled out giving the FBI access to the federal database on gun purchases. The Second Amendment gang sayswronglythat this would invade privacy, and Ashcroft goes along even though it is perfectly possible, indeed logical, that people linked to terrorism may be among the gun buyers." --[email protected]

18USC 922(a)(3) says it is illegal to maintain a firearms registry. Why should we follow our own laws--this IS the "War on Terror" after all.
