Out of all the flags of our 50 states, only two flagsthose of Delaware and Michiganfeature a figure holding a gun. The Delaware flag is further adorned with a banner reading Liberty and Independence. Wed posit that the same spirit of self-sufficiency and respect for the rights of the individual that inspired Delawares flag persist today, as evidenced by the tales of armed self-defense below.

We will never know for certain who was the first person shot dead in the Americas. Visitors to the Jamestown Settlement Museum in Virginia can see the skeleton of a young man, no older than 19; the pellets of lead that killed him are embedded in a shattered knee. Known only as JR102C, the mans identity has been the subject of much debate. The strongest theory holds that he was a dashing young military officer named George Harrison, and that he was killed in a duel.

When the Asbury Park Press in New Jersey headlined its anti-gun editorial Friday that last weeks 231-198 House vote on concealed carry reciprocity was a slap at NJ, the response could not be simpler: New Jersey gun laws are a slap at the Second Amendment. The editorial proudly boasted that, New Jersey is one of just 10 states that do not already recognize out-of-state concealed carry permits, which only reinforces the fact that New Jersey remains one of the leaders in understanding the value of tight gun controls, as if this is a good thing. Heres a newspaper using its First Amendment rights to attack another liberty protected by the Bill of Rights.

Gun-rights advocates scored a major win with House passage of legislation making concealed-carry gun permits valid across state lines -- but face a much tougher challenge in the Senate where they'll need support from at least eight Democrats to make the bill law. Supporters of "concealed-carry reciprocity" argue they simply want to clarify a patchwork of laws from local jurisdictions that confuse and sometimes ensnare gun-carrying travelers.

When civil rights advocates on the Left speak of the Bill of Rights, they are generally not referring to all ten amendments. The Ninth and Tenth are frequently forgotten or dismissed as tautologies. The Second Amendment, especially, gets ignored altogether. This is not just a matter of what legal cases groups like the American Civil Liberties Union will take up. It also trickles down into the general understanding of our rights as Americans.

The Tennessee Firearms Association (TFA) is calling for legislators to review language in the state's self-defense statute following a deadly shooting at a Nashville hookah bar. Police are investigating if four armed security guards at Cloud IX Hookah Bar on Gallatin Pike reacted in self-defense when they shot a 30-year-old Sunday morning, according to a report from our sister affiliate WZTV.

Shooting by four security guards resulting in death at a Nashville hookah bar illustrates serious problems with the wording of Tennessee's self-defense no retreat statute wording that TFA opposed. This weekend, in the early morning hours of Sunday, of Sunday December 10, 2017, armed private security officers appeared to have been involved in a shooting incident which left a patron of a hookah bar in East Nashville that left the man dead in the parking lot of the establishment according to various news reports (Fox17, Tennessean, WKRN).

Alabama voters will have a clear choice between pro-gun Roy Moore and pro-gun control Doug Jones on December 12.
Generally speaking, Moore is a Republican and Jones a Democrat. This means a vote for Moore helps the pro-gun Republican Party maintain a majority over the anti-gun Democrats while a vote for Jones gives Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) yet another Senator who supports restricting the Second Amendment.

ACTIVATE SATELLITE VIEW in Google Maps and head to the Las Vegas strip, and you'll see it: a strange smattering of Y-shaped buildings. Mandalay Bay. Monte Carlo. Treasure Island. The Mirage. Their blueprints put gambling at the center of everything, funneling visitors past slot machines and card tables whether they're en route to a show, their room, a restaurant, or a retail shop. For years, the casino floor was where Vegas resorts made most of their money, and the Y was devilishly good at monetizing it.

As information was still coming in regarding Mondays attempted terror attack in a New York City subway, an MSNBC panel discussing the news ridiculously shifted the topic to outrage over guns and gun crime in the U.S. And on top of that, they bemoaned how President Trump would try to make the attack an immigration issue to support his temporary travel ban.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe introduced strict new regulations last month governing rallies around the Robert E. Lee statue on Richmond's Monument Avenue. Among other things, guns were banned at events. But on Saturday, when a small, Tennessee-based group held a pro-monument rally, they stood in the traffic circle that surrounds the monument carrying assault-style rifles on their backs.

A controversial measure passed last week in the U.S House could make it easier for gun owners to legally carry concealed weapons across state lines. Gun laws are a hot topic especially after recent mass shootings in Las Vegas and Texas. HR 38, better known as the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, would allow gun owners with a concealed carry permit to carry a handgun in any state that allows concealed weapons. Obviously I think it's a huge benefit for us its something that everyone has wanted that carries a firearm forever is to have reciprocity, Dakota Silencer Owner, Brandon Maddox said.

3-D printing has provided experts and the general public the opportunity to bring unexpected items to life in their own homes or garages, including musical instruments and works of art. But what about weapons? Guns produced by 3-D printers are increasing, and that has brought concerns with it. Should that development bring additional regulations with it? Is it simply part of innovation that well need to adjust to?

Bennie Sideboard was surprised to hear that one of the two young men accused of stealing a car early Sunday the one police believe Sideboard shot in the stomach during the encounter is only 17. But the suspect's youth didn't change his opinion. "He needs to be disciplined, and he needs to go to jail," said Sideboard, 63, who described himself as a retired merchant seaman and proud owner of a concealed-carry permit. "I worked hard all my life for everything I have. He should learn his lesson so he doesn't do this again to anyone else."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
To prohibit a citizen from wearing or carrying a war arm . . . is an unwarranted restriction upon the constitutional right to keep and bear arms. If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of constitutional privilege. [Wilson v. State, 33 Ark. 557, at 560, 34 Am. Rep. 52, at 54 (1878)]
