Anonymous anti-gun editorial featuring lies and baseless suppositions. -------
. . . "Taft has stuck to his guns so to speak and said he will veto the bill because of a provision that shields the names of permit holders from the publics scrutiny. House and Senate leaders, meanwhile, are counting heads to see if they have enough votes to override the governors veto. House Speaker Larry Householder said he has the votes, but Senate President Doug White doesnt think he will."
"If thats the case, Tafts veto should bring an end to yet another attempt by the gun lobby and its Republican allies to push through a bill that most Ohioans either oppose or dont care about it. Ohioans do care about jobs, education, school funding inequities, and crumbling and inadequate highways, yet lawmakers continue to waste time and energy on a bill that would lead to more gun violence across the state." . . . |

SANTA FE "The state Supreme Court has decided to hear arguments next month in a challenge to a new law that allows New Mexicans to carry concealed, loaded handguns."
"The court on Thursday set oral arguments for Jan. 5."
"A children's advocacy group and a physician sued last month, alleging the law violates the state Constitution."
"They want the court to block the Department of Public Safety from issuing concealed-carry licenses beginning in January."
"The attorney general, representing the department, said in written arguments submitted to the court last month that the law is constitutional and the challenge should be dismissed." ...
------- The plaintiffs in this lawsuit apparently define "Children's Advocacy Group" as: "people who want all parents to be unable to protect their children from kidnappers, rapists and murderers." In other words, "advocacy" is now an endorsement of helplessness. |

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- A student at Southern Connecticut State University has been sentenced to four years in prison for having an assault weapon at his on-campus apartment.
Joseph Difusco, 34, was arrested in September.
At that time, police seized hundreds of rounds of ammunition, manuals on how to modify guns and an instruction manual for flying a plane.
Police began investigating after one of Difusco's roommates told his father that he observed a flare gun in a trash basket in the apartment. The father then called Southern police, who started an investigation. |

Four people were arrested and more than 300 guns were seized after a yearlong investigation culminated in a two-day raid of a weapons-smuggling ring that operated in North Carolina and two other states, authorities said Friday.
James Yates, 35, of Damascus, Va., was arrested Wednesday after 30 federal agents mounted an early morning sting in Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said in a press release issued Friday. Officials did not provide further details on Yates' arrest.
Also arrested were gun dealer Billy Wallace, 47, and Douglas Icenhour, both of Mountain City, Tenn., and Dr. Christopher Perry, 38, a chiropractor in Bristol, Tenn.
ATF officials said 100 weapons were found at Perry's Kingsport, Tenn., home.
Warrants were issued for Coy Edwards, 61, of Sparta, N.C., Robert St. Lawrence, 65, of Graham, N.C., Bobby Hoover, 63, of Dema, Ky., and William Vance, 59, of Beckley, W.Va. -------
Let's get this straight. The feds (or the newspaper) tell us their names and how many guns were confiscated, but they don't tell us a thing about the charges or alleged crimes committed other than vague references. Sounds about right in The New Amerika. "Right to keep and bear... what?" |

Sergeant Eddie Keelan of Ruatoria police said a man gave himself up peacefully to police at the end of the incident.
Police were told yesterday afternoon that a man who had no licence was in possession of a firearm. Because of information received from the family, it was decided to bring the AOS squad from Gisborne as a precaution.
Police cordoned off a house just north of the township and three other houses were evacuated.
The state highway was closed on either side of Ngarimu Hill about three kilometres north of the township. |

"We'll kick your ass."
This is what civil authority thinks their proper role is in dealing with "We the People."
It is clear who they believe the masters to be.
The question is, are they right?
They explain it away as a joke gone awry.
Why does this government agency think beating people at the whim of its field operatives is funny?
I'm sure apologists will tell us it is only meant as a warning to criminals.
Ever carry a concealed firearm without permission? Do you own an unregistered militia-suitable firearm?
Warning, you criminal: they'll "kick your ass" and then destroy your life, regardless of what the Constitution says about your right to keep and bear arms, which no court will accept as a defense anyway.
Don't like it?
Tough. Defy them and they'll "kick your ass."
What are you prepared to do about it? |

The New South Wales Opposition says a Government idea to have security guards issued with bright orange guns does not address the problem of gun crime.
Shadow Police Minister Peter Debnam says it is a silly idea designed to get media attention.
"It's ridiculous, it's absurd, the criminals really don't care what colour it is," he said.
"If a victim is being shot or robbed it doesn't matter whether the gun is pink, purple or orange.

. . ."The Court's decision in this [anti-First Amendment] case will be a devastating blow to future conservative candidates running against liberal incumbents. There is no correction possible in the short term. A U.S. Supreme Court decision is finalthere is no further appeal. The U.S. Congress that passed McCain-Feingold is not going to change it. And the president cannot now say that he would not have signed it if he had thought the Supreme Court would fail to strike down the obvious restrictions on free speech contained in the law. This is a case of a 'flawed bill' that became flawed law when the president signed it and was upheld in certain significant aspects in a flawed majority decision that took away some of our political freedom in order to preserve the privilege of incumbents. As Justice Scalia said in his opinion, 'The first instinct of power is the retention of power, and, under a Constitution that requires periodic elections, that is best achieved by the suppression of election-time speech.' The presidents signature of this bill was all about the retention of power. But the price we all will pay is much too high and will continue to be paid long after this Congress and this president have left office." |
