"The number of federally required background checks of prospective gun purchasers has nearly doubled in the past decade a time when violent crime has been in long decline in many places across the USA, according to FBI records."
"The bureaus National Instant Check System (NICS) does not track actual firearms sales multiple guns can be included in one purchase. But the steady rise in background checks from 8.5 million in 2002 to 16.8 million in 2012 tracks other indicators that signal escalating gun sales." ... |

"Yesterday, the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that Illinois' outright prohibition against carrying a defensive firearm (whether openly or concealed) violates the Second Amendment. The court gives Illinois six months to implement a legislative rescission of the state's self-defense ban. This is, of course, very good news for gun rights advocates in Illinois, and a great victory for the Second Amendment Foundation, the Illinois State Rifle Association, the NRA and IllinoisCarry.com--not to mention Illinois citizens, such as savagely beaten Mary Shepard, who was licensed to carry a firearm in 31 states, but was forced by her home state of Illinois to be defenseless against her brutal assailant." ... |

"Like the Church of Scientology, the Brady Campaign ... uses the legal system to harass its enemies. Sorry, the enemies of the Second Amendment. Nope. The friends of the Second Amendment. Knew Id get there eventually. The Campaigns sued the Interior Department and Hi-Pointunsuccessfullyand filed amicus briefs in court cases seeking to suppress gun rights and/or uphold gun control ... And now the Campaigns suing ARMSLIST for facilitating the sale of a firearm to Dmitry Smirnov, who bought a .40 Glock though (not from) the website and then used it to kill Jitka Vesel. Which is a bit like suing a used car dealer for selling a vehicle to a person who then drives drunk and kills someone. ..." ... |

"For too long U.S. gun owners have been denied the ability to own the Israeli-designed Tavor rifle. Just like the Steyer AUG, its a bullpup design chambered in the popular 5.56 NATO cartridge that allows for a shorter overall rifle while keeping the required 16 inches of barrel length to make the ATF happy. While I dont quite understand the appeal of the Tavor over the AUG myself, I get the feeling that its the association with hot IDF chicks that make most of the male population salivate over the gun. According to a press release yesterday, though, the wait will soon be over and well be seeing the first samples at SHOT Show in a couple weeks . . ." ... |

"As I watch the latest televised news reports chronicling the latest public gun tragedy in America, it occurs to me that it time to repeal the Second Amendment. High time. Past time."
"This most recent shooting occurred in a shopping mall in Portland, Ore., and involved a shooter with a semi-automatic assault rifle as did the shootings in the movie theater in Aurora; Congresswoman Gabriel Gifford's shooting in Tuscon, Ariz.; Virginia Tech massacre; and the Columbine High School massacre; however, recently in Kansas City, former NFL player [name redacted] tragically murdered his girlfriend and then committed suicide using a handgun." ... |

"Darn it. I see that I am out of milk and therefore must drive to the grocery store. Better grab the proper accouterments for my trek: cellphone (check), wallet, keys (check, check) and gun (check). Wait, what?"
"Advocates of the National Rifle Association everywhere must have been cheering Tuesday. The U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals decided on a 2-1 vote that the Illinois ban on carrying concealed weapons was unconstitutional: Citizens in the state of Illinois should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon. When I heard the news, I can promise you cheering for the appeal was the furthest thing from my mind. Up until Tuesday, I was proud that Illinois was the only state to ban concealed weapons. ..." ... |

"Yesterday the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals handed down a landmark decision, striking down Illinois's statute prohibiting citizens from carrying 'a gun ready to use' for the purpose of self-defense. Docketed as Moore v. Madigan, it is the first Circuit Court opinion, post-District of Columbia v. Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago, to state the Second Amendment extends beyond the home. In Judge Richard Posner's words, 'To speak of 'bearing' arms within one's home would at all times have been awkward usage. A right to bear arms thus implies a right to carry a loaded gun outside the home.'" ... |

"New life is being breathed into the Second Amendment. After it was beaten down by activist courts over the decades, the nations top justices finally decided two years ago that the founders meant what they wrote. In McDonald v. Chicago, the Supreme Court majority held it was unconstitutional for the Windy City to forbid residents to keep handguns in their homes. On Tuesday, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decided the phrase in the Bill of Rights about 'bearing arms' has meaning as well." ... |

"Barack Obama's Chicago has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country. According to NeighborhoodScout.com, the Windy City has 55 violent crimes a year for every thousand residents, giving it just a 6 on a 100-point safety scale. One reason is that Illinois is the only state in America that has an absolute prohibition on carrying a concealed firearm for self-defense."
"But that's about to change, thanks to a ruling by a three-judge panel of the Seventh U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. In Moore v. Madigan, the judges gave the Legislature in Springfield 180 days 'to craft a new gun law that will impose reasonable limitations, consistent with the public safety and the Second Amendment ..." ... |

"Illinois cannot ban citizens from carrying guns in public, the 7th Circuit ruled, finding that the right to self-defense extends outside one's home."
"Under Illinois law, uncased, 'ready-to-use' guns may be kept in a person's home, apartment or permanent place of business, but they may not be carried in public. Illinois is the only state with such a ban."
