"No worries, though. It turns out, as a second PA announcement lets everyone know, this was only a 'lockdown drill.' It sure would have been nice of them to tell the kids that, before subjecting them to child abuse via psychological torture. More than ensuring safety, the whole point seems to be to scare the rhymes-with-tap out of them and condition them to view dangerous situations as something adults in immediate authority are just as helpless to do anything about as they are." |

Students and staff were murdered in a public school. That is what happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School two years ago. It is time we were clear about what happened and why. Lets look at who is to blame and what we can do to protect our children.
Legislators and police officials could have required schools be designed to protect students from violence. The local school board had the choice to demand the buildings be updated with safety features. They could have allowed armed school staff. A responsible school board would have demanded that the school staff was trained and armed. |

This year, Tennessee joined 21 other states that allow employees to leave guns in their cars at the office parking lot. The laws have left many employers debating how best to ensure safety at work.
After Georgia passed its law allowing employees to keep firearms in their employers' parking lots, Sally Roberts installed a sign on her newspaper firm's door. It read: "No Weapons Allowed." |

A million (British) crimes reported by the public [were] left out of police figures, The Telegraphreported. Overall, almost a fifth of crimes failed to appear in the figures for England and Wales but in some forces the proportion was as high as a third. Overall, police failed to record a quarter of rapes and a third of violent crimes across England and Wales.
Thats been going on for a while.

The Violence Policy Center has documented at least 506 fatal non-self defense incidents since 2007 resulting from private citizens legally allowed to carry concealed handguns, and this number almost certainly represents a fraction of the actual total.
Today, the Violence Policy Center (VPC) released the latest update to Concealed Carry Killers, an online resource that provides examples of non-self defense killings by private citizens legally allowed to carry concealed handguns in public. Overall, Concealed Carry Killers documents 506 incidents since May 2007 in 36 states and the District of Columbia, resulting in the deaths of 679 people. |

An area lawmaker has filed a bill that would allow people to carry concealed weapons on the campuses of state colleges and universities.
The proposal (SB 176), filed Thursday Sen. Greg Evers, R-Baker, is identical to a bill (HB 4005) filed earlier this week by Rep. Greg Steube, R-Sarasota. The bill would allow people with concealed-weapons licenses to carry guns on campus. It comes after an incident last month at Florida State University in which a gunman shot three people at the campus library before he was killed by police. |

In August, I had a chance to attend a 250 Pistol class at Gunsite Academy near Paulden, Arizona.
The class, created by the legendary Col. Jeff Cooper, is billed as the Gunsite experience, and it doesnt disappoint.
In the five days and one night I was there, I learned more about fighting with a handgun than I had learned in my entire life up to that point. That makes perfect sense, considering that virtually every reputable handgun training school in the world traces its lineage to the Harvard of Handguns where Cooper laid out The Modern Technique of the Pistol. |

Democrats are nothing if not persistent. In the wake of their second straight midterm election shellacking, they have decided to double down on one of their pet issues: gun control. Republicans will soon have more members in Congress than theyve had in more than 70 years, while Democrats have completely lost the South and have been routed at the state level. Yet they believe gun control is their silver bullet. |

Two stories in todays Seattle Times best illustrate the hypocrisy of the political left when it comes to the exercise of civil rights in this case the First Amendment and might provide an object lesson to anyone favoring restrictions on the Second Amendment.
One article explains that the Downtown Seattle Association and other Seattle business groups complained to Mayor Ed Murray and the city council about the downtown protests after the Ferguson grand jury decision. These protests were launched without permits and caused significant disruption and impacts to transportation, commerce, jobs, retailers, residents, employees and tax revenues, the Times reported. |

Pew has been asking that same question since 1993, and so the paradigm shift is not only obvious, but statistically valid as well. In 1993, just 34 percent of those polled held that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms was more important, while 57 percent said they favored more gun controls. Support for the Second Amendment hit a nadir in March 2000, about a year after the Columbine High School massacre occurred near Denver, Colorado. In that poll, just 29 percent of Americans favored the Second Amendment, while 66 percent favored additional restrictions on gun ownership. |

A former physician now in the Kansas Legislature says she will promote a bill expanding background checks for gun sales because she believes gunshot wounds are a public health issue.
Rep. Barbara Bollier, a moderate Republican from Mission Hills, this week attended the first conference of a newly formed group of state lawmakers committed to curbing gun violence. Bollier joined almost 200 representatives from both parties and all 50 states at the Washington, D.C., meeting of American State Legislators for Gun Violence Prevention, calling it "a tremendous opportunity for the people's voice to be heard throughout the country." |

A bill on the way to the governors desk would make sweeping changes to Ohio gun laws.
The legislature passed House Bill 234 by a wide margin this week. It would make it easier for most Ohioans to obtain concealed weapons licenses.
The bill reduces the minimum number of training hours from 12 to 8 and allows people to take courses online.
It also allows reciprocity, meaning some out-of-state licenses would be valid in Ohio, and vice versa, and the bill would eliminate a 45-day residency requirement for licenses. |
