"Like all informed Second Amendment supporters, I don't trust any politician who claims support for that amendment and then goes on to relate how much he/she stands up for the rights of hunters as if the rights of hunters were what that amendment is all about. We know why the Second Amendment was put in the Bill of Rights. ..." ...

"Does the failure of heavily armed Iraqis to liberate themselves undermine the arguments of Second Amendment supporters in the United States, few of whom seem to be aware that Iraqi civilians were heavily armed even in Saddam's day? I'm surprised that the gun prohibitionists haven't used the Iraq situation to jump on this pro-Second Amendment argument with both feet. ..." ...

"Why is it that when it comes to the Second Amendment, anti-gunners only see the words, 'National Guard'?"

"The United States was founded by English subjects (residing in the American colonies) who took up arms when their government's tyrannical behavior became too much to bear. After winning the revolution, our Founding Fathers declared certain rights inalienable and therefore the law of the land. The right to keep and bear arms was named second only to freedom of expression. Clearly the need for the private ownership of firearms was to keep the government in check which would hopefully prevent future acts of tyranny." ...

"Among U.S. adults who say they are familiar with them, the American Red Cross, AARP, The Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce are the most trusted among 14 large organizations measured, according to a new Harris Poll. Conversely, the National Rifle Association, the AFL-CIO and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are the least trusted. These organizations have a great deal of influence affecting many public policy discussions in and around the Nation's Capitol." ...

"While the National Rifle Association (NRA) is near the top in terms of recognition (87%), just over half of those familiar with this organization (54%) trust the NRA while 46 percent do not trust them. However, the NRA can take some comfort that this represents an improvement from last year when less than half (48%) trusted the NRA." ...

A student informed a principal and a police officer assigned to MacArthur Junior High School in Jonesboro that a fellow student had brought a loaded pistol to school.

Officials say that within minutes, the 15-year-old student was in the principal's office, disarmed. Principal Brad Faught says the boy had the gun in his pocket and took it out to show two other students. He then told them if they told anyone he had the gun, he would shoot them.

At lunch, a student approached Faught and resource Officer Donna Johnston and told them about the gun. Johnston quietly approached the student and told him to take his hands out of his pockets and go to the office. Moments later, the gun was confiscated and the boy was arrested.

"I sought long and hard for a reason. Eventually, I found a handful. That is, during my five-plus years attending the University of Utah did I ever have reason to pull a handgun ... from my parka's inside pocket?"

"Well, there was the moment when I felt like popping my English professor one. He had this annoying habit of musing ad nauseum about the 'hidden worlds' of literary figures without saying anything substantive. I also recall when, right in the middle of lunch with a sexy brunette from my stadium-size biology class, I watched in horror as her boyfriend sat down to join us. FULL TEXT BELOW:

A 17-year-old New Brunswick boy was arrested Tuesday for bringing a starter pistol to a school near Florenceville.

RCMP Cpl. Gilles Blinn says officers were called to Carleton North High School in Bristol where they arrested the teen and seized the weapon without incident.

"It's not a gun. It's not a firearm. It was called in as a firearm, but the investigation revealed that it was a starter pistol. So there was no actual firearm involved. There were no threats made by this student to the staff or any other student.

A starter pistol is a replica gun used to fire blanks, often used to start races or on stage or movie sets.

No charges have been laid, and police are continuing to investigate.

"I imagine that many Ohio firearm owners awoke this morning refreshed from their slumber that was free from nightmares... Nightmares that won't be able to come true around three months from now... Nightmares about unknowingly becoming a criminal due to crossing a municipal boundary with a handgun that can be legally carried some places and not others with their state-issued Concealed Handgun License. Many probably sipped their morning coffee and smiled while thinking about how nice it will be to never again worry about the ambiguity of Ohios car carry restrictions. Hopefully, their celebratory mood wasnt ruined when they opened their newspaper and saw the expected whining that is likely to prevail for quite awhile." ...
