This is one reason why the Second Amendment exists: self-defense.

A woman fatally shot her husband as he beat her and tried to strangle her in a Metairie home, the Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office stated. She was not charged with committing a crime after investigators questioned her.

Jefferson Parish Coroner Gerry Cvitanovich identified her dead husband as Ian Mastin, 27.

According to the Sheriffs Office, the woman called 911 just before 9 p.m. and reported she had shot her husband in their home in the 2900 block of Transcontinental Drive.

Mastin was shot multiple times and died at the scene. Deputies took his wife into custody and brought her to the agencys detective bureau to be interrogated.

Kasich has been clear about the Heartbeat Bill he vetoed a similar bill in 2016. Hes also warned lawmakers not to send him the Stand Your Ground bill. The version that passed both chambers doesnt eliminate the duty to retreat provision, but still shifts the burden to prove self-defense to prosecutors.

Now Kasich wont say what hell do with the bill, which doesnt tackle the common sense gun regulations that Kasich demanded.

I dont want to do that now, Kasich says. Everybody knows how strongly I feel about all this and when the time is right its like fine wine. It will be revealed when its read.

Siding with a Broward County sheriffs deputy who fatally shot a man, the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday unanimously ruled that law-enforcement officers can use the states stand your ground self-defense law as a shield against prosecution.

Justices upheld the dismissal of a manslaughter charge against Deputy Peter Peraza, who contended that he acted in self-defense and, as a result, was immune from prosecution under stand your ground. Peraza in July 2013 shot Jermaine McBean, a man with a history of mental illness who had pointed an air rifle at officers, according to the Supreme Court.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals upheld New Jerseys ban on high-capacity magazines last week. The stage is now set to test whether the United States Supreme Court, with its new member Justice Brett Kavanaugh, will consider the case.

If the United States Supreme Court takes the N.J.-based case, it will be the first major Second Amendment case since McDonald v. Chicago in 2010, when just one vote carried the court to hold that the Second Amendments right to bear arms is applicable to the states and that people may own firearms for self-defense.

South Dakota lawmakers are set to debate a measure during the upcoming session that would let people carry concealed pistols in the Capitol.

House Majority Leader Lee Qualm says he plans to propose a bill similar to an unsuccessful 2017 measure to allow people with an enhanced permit to bring concealed handguns into the building if they registered beforehand with security.

Qualm says he doesn't agree with gun-free zones and that Capitol security can't be everywhere at all times. Outgoing Gov. Dennis Daugaard vetoed the 2017 bill.

A spokeswoman for Gov.-elect Kristi Noem says she's a strong Second Amendment supporter, but won't commit to legislation until she can review its text.

Parents of a 23-year-old Vermont man who killed himself hours after he bought a gun included in his obituary a call for the state to require a waiting period for firearms purchases.

The family's plea has caught the attention of at least some state lawmakers, with one saying there may be debate about the issue in the next legislative session.

Andrew Black bought a gun on the morning of Dec. 6 and that afternoon used it to commit suicide at his home in Essex, Vermont, his mother, Alyssa Hughes Black told NBC affiliate NBC5.

With about a month until the 2019 Maryland General Assembly reconvenes Jan. 9, the new Democratic state House Majority Leader is looking to continue the progress made last session on gun violence prevention by banning 3D and ghost guns in the state.

House Majority Leader Delegate Kathleen Dumais, D-Montgomery, said she will be introducing a bill banning the possession of 3D-printed guns plastic guns capable of shooting live ammunition and made in a 3D printer and ghost guns nearly complete and without serial numbers in Maryland.

The National Rifle Association gave notably less to candidates in the 2018 midterm elections than any other election in the last three years; still, NRA backed candidates won 106 races and lost just 33.While this is impressive, it is nothing compared to the efforts of gun control groups, and while they won less races, gun control candidates won critical races that put millions of Americans gun rights in jeopardy. The NRA and gun owners across the country must stand up for their Second Amendment rights going into 2020 to prevent more gun control advocates from undermining Americans constitutional rights.

An Oklahoma lawmaker wants to allow those with a valid handgun license to carry guns in the Capitol, something that is currently prohibited.

Senate Bill 38, authored by Sen. David Bullard, R-Durant, would allow individuals with a valid handgun license to proceed through a security checkpoint with a weapon after presenting the license.

Nothing in this section shall be construed to authorize a peace or security officer to remove or inspect any weapon or restrain any person carrying a properly concealed loaded or unloaded handgun without probable cause that a crime has been committed, the measure states.

Governor Fallin was term-limited, and could not run for governor for a third term. She felt free to violate her campaign promises and veto the popular bill.

On September 4, 2018, governor candidate Kevin Stitt said he would sign a Constitutional Carry bill. From news9.com:

I would sign it. I am a constitutional conservative. I support the first amendment, the second amendment and I think the best defense for a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun, said Stitt.

Kevin Stitt, the Republican candidate, was elected on 6 November 2018, with over 54% of the vote.

California State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson (D-Santa Barbara) has an idea to help keep the good citizens of the Golden State safe: Disarm the drunks. If her recently submitted bill becomes law, those convicted of serious alcohol-related crimes would lose their right to keep and bear arms for ten years. While its true that firearms and intoxicants dont mix well, this proposal much like other common sense reforms in the state that weve covered ignore the basic principle behind the Second Amendment. Its a simple point, really. So why is it that so many politicians and voters seem to miss it?

I'll be blunt: Things are going from bad to worse with the New Hampshire Senate Leadership and I need your help.

The new anti-gun majority has begun to flex it's muscles by naming committees. Historically, the Senate Judiciary Committee has had jurisdiction over firearms related bills and the new anti-gun majority has placed some of the most extreme anti-gun Senators in charge of that committee.
