... "However, what if it is true? What if President Bush actually said the things Thompson said he said? In that case, every American must bear responsibility!" ...

"If G.W. Bush said the things he is quoted as saying, it means that our President is not only the worst kind of liar but also a very clear and present threat to freedom!"

"Remember that President Bush twice put his hand on a Holy Bible and took an oath to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Such an oath carries with it the most sacred of intentions and the most serious of consequences." ...

"The Constitution isn't just a piece of paper or parchment. It's a contract; the original contract with America. It's the contract you yourself swore an oath to preserve, protect, and defend against all enemies both foreign and domestic. ..." ...

"Go over to Arlington National Cemetery. It's not that far from where you live. Look at those tombstones. By your statement, you have written across and every one the words, 'Died for a goddamned piece of paper.'"

"Thanks to Lawrence Braico of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs ("Gun law's flaws," Dec. 5) for finally clarifying why pro-gunners are so vehement in opposition to limits on packing heat at will."

"Gun-lobby rhetoric is awash in false patriotism and incorrect reading of constitutional principle ... But in his rambling and parental letter taking Gov. Rendell to task for signing legislation enabling law enforcement to remove guns from domestic abusers, Braico defined what really motivates pro-gunners to fight against every limit on gun possession or use: emotion."

"He wrote that emotion was key ... So now we know. It's less about so-called rights, and more about the emotional attraction pro-gunners feel toward guns." ...

"That's apparently what happened in Stateline a week ago. It demonstrates how the nation's gun laws essentially are ineffective at keeping weapons out of the hands of people who are known to be dangerous to themselves and others."

"We support the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms - as a guarantee of the Bill of Rights, as a tradition of independence and self-reliance in Nevada, and because there are legitimate reasons for owning a gun."

"It was the wrong call, a mistake, a verdict that ignored common sense. With plenty of cover, Walker shot the wrong man in the back. His unarmed victim was running away. As prosecutor Lane Liroff said, 'If you shoot someone in the back ... It's not self-defense.'"

"A debate has begun over which Inland Empire residents should be allowed permits to carry concealed weapons. It's about time we talked about it -- most other states have worked through the debate, leaving California in a minority of states that deny permits to good people."

"Thirty-eight states now issue permits to law-abiding citizens to carry personal firearms for self-protection. But California's law leaves permit-granting authority to local chief law enforcement officers, making for a complex patchwork of rules that are often unfairly applied. But they have one thing in common: Almost all deer and pigs taken by Lone Star hunters each year are shot within 200 yards. And that is a generous yardstick. Many are bagged at about 100 yards."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

I'm a passionate sport shooter. I compete in a number of shooting disciplines with both pistols and rifles. It's a wonderful pastime, spent with good friends.

I was going to be getting a longed-for new pistol for Christmas, but it seems that plan is off now. No sense spending good money on something that will simply be confiscated by the state, at what it euphemistically calls "fair market value."

The Grinch has also stolen Christmas from small business owners who run hunting and firearms stores, many on very slim profit margins indeed. There'll be lots of Christmas gifts that won't be bought now. All because of a draconian, ineffectual, cynical Liberal vote-grab.

The Grinch certainly does wear red Liberal red.
