Two would-be burglars are in custody after Roseville police followed their shoe prints in the snow for three miles following an attempted early morning break-in Thursday at a local gun range, officials said.
Police said the culprits and a third individual broke the front door glass of Peters Indoor Range and Gun Shop, on Gratiot Avenue south of 12 Mile Road, and hooked a tow strap to the security bars on the door. Using a 2006 Dodge pickup truck, they unsuccessfully attempted to pull the bars off the door at 5:30 a.m.
The pickup became stuck in the snow, and the trio ran east, police said. Responding to a burglary alarm, Officers Michael Saier and Lauren Brockmann started following the suspects shoe prints for approx. two hours. |

New accusations have surfaced that allege a disgraced Long Island police commissioner may be linked to the Gilgo Beach murders. John Ray, the lawyer representing the family of New Jersey escort Shannan Gilbert, alleged that another Long Island escort had a rough sexual encounter with former police chief James Burke in the same area where several of the bodies were found, NBC New York reported Thursday. The report said the woman, identified only as "Leanne," described being choked and being forced into rough sex with Burke during a party on Oak Beach a year after Gilbert went missing. |

A federal lawsuit is challenging New York's ban on Tasers and other stun guns, one of the few such remaining laws nationwide.
In New York state, it's a misdemeanor for a civilian to own a Taser or other electronic stun gun. But recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions have led advocates to seek protection for owners under the Second Amendment.
The lawsuit filed this month by a Hudson Valley mayor argues the ban is unconstitutional. Matthew Avitabile, of Middleburgh, with help from the Firearms Policy Coalition, argued that non-lethal stun guns should be available for self-defense -- much like traditional firearms. The coalition is a non-profit advocacy group that promotes citizens' rights to own and use guns. |

Rosas spent nearly 2 years in jail awaiting trial, which concluded Tuesday with a Nueces County jury finding him not guilty. Rosas defense maintained, based on statements he made immediately following the shooting and later in jail that he did not know the men breaking into his home were police officers and there was no way he couldve known, having been disoriented by the flash-bang stun grenade. The case is so easy, this is a self-defense case, said Rosas lawyer in closing arguments.
Rosas originally faced three counts of attempted capital murder, but the prosecution dropped those charges just before the trial began, opting instead to try him for three counts of aggravated assault on the police officers. |

Conservative and Libertarian favorite, Republican Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, is often one of the first to come to mind when people think of a true freedom loving politician. Hes not afraid to butt heads with his own party if Republicans set themselves to defy the principles they claim to stand for, and will defy party leadership to make sure they remain on that course.
Thats because Paul is more often than not loyal to his principles, and a good deal of his principles fall directly in line with much of the Founding Fathers. So he was the perfect candidate to commemorate the 225th anniversary of the Bill of Rights with an article in its defense. |

Liberty University is planning to open a state-of-the-art shooting range on campus next fall as part of the conservative Evangelical Christian School's commitment to promoting gun ownership and firearm sports.
University president Jerry Falwell Jr. said that Liberty's new complex will feature pistol, rifle and shotgun facilities as well as an archery range built into the mountainside of the 7,000-acre campus near Lynchburg, Virginia. Falwell said the project will result in one of the most expansive firearms ranges on any U.S. college campus. The blueprints call for at least $1 million in construction and landscape improvements that will provide new opportunities for student clubs and athletic teams. |

So Sadtler has sued to force Georgia to recognize gun carry permits issued to visiting Virginians like him just as Virginia recognizes permits issued to Georgians who travel to the commonwealth.
Im just looking to be treated as residents in other states are treated, said Sadtler, 48, a gun-rights activist who lives in Richmond. |

On Wednesday, the Kansas Board of Regents approved campus carry policies that will go into effect July 1, 2017, when universities in Kansas begin allowing guns to be carried on campus for self-defense.
The states campus carry law requires that law-abiding students and faculty 21 years old and older be allowed to carry guns for self-defense in buildings that lack adequate security measures. The safety measures include metal detectors and trained guards. The campus carry law was passed in 2013 and gave public colleges and universities four years to decide which buildings to outfit with the security measures and which buildings to open to campus carry. |

Since its ratification on December 15, 1791, the Bill of Rights has enshrined many of our most fundamental liberties and unalienable rights including the freedoms of speech, worship, and assembly; the rights to trial by jury and due process, and the protections from unreasonable search and seizure and cruel and unusual punishment, Barack Obama noted in his official 2016 presidential proclamation commemorating the occasion. Thats today, in case you didnt realize, and its been officially recognized by the federal government since Franklin D. Roosevelt declared it so in 1941, commemorating the 150th anniversary of its ratification. |

Milwaukee County is no exception. We have the very progressive, urban city of Milwaukee, then we have the rest of the county. The law enforcement officials of these two polar opposites are a great example of their vast differences despite their close proximity. Milwaukee County has the no-nonsense leadership of Sheriff David Clarke, Jr. and the city of Milwaukee has the excuses of MPD Chief Ed Flynn. |

A reading of the Second Amendment is important as it does not represent a government grant of anyone's right to "keep and bear arms," but instead prohibits the new government from "infringing" on that right. This is an implicit recognition that the right predated the formation of the new Republic and the drafting of the Second Amendment itself. It was instead the recognition of what the founders believed to be the natural right to defend oneself, one's family, community and nation; a right recognized much earlier in the English Bill of Rights and by many of the American colonies long before the break with Great Britain. |

When it comes to selecting the best laser sight for a home defense or concealed carry firearm, gun owners should carefully study the market, visit firearms stores or gun ranges for an in-the hand feel, and ask lots of questions.
Ask store staff and friends if they own a laser sight, or have shot a firearm with a laser sight installed. Some gun shops and ranges also rent handguns and other firearms with laser sights installed, or laser-and-light combos installed, so shoppers can experience laser sights in action. Many major big box stores and online firearms accessory sites also offer laser sights and product details. |

Well, Americas now seeing through Hollywoods nonsense and it shows at the box office. Miss Sloane was supposed to be a cinematic hit on the so-called gun lobby and it brought some serious acting talent to the fray. Two-time Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain was the biggest name, but you had long-time Law & Order star Sam Waterston (who has a Golden Globe and a SAG Award of his own) in this film as well.
Yet the film is officially a box-office bomb, drawing in only $1.9 million last weekend, against a $13 million budget. Ms. Chastain received a Golden Globe nomination for her unseen-by-most-of-America performance, though her fourth (with one win). |

On 14 December, 2016, a three judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the District Court ruling in Silvester v. Harris. In the original decision, the District Court ruled that requiring a gun owner who had already passed a background check, and who either already owned a registered gun or had a concealed carry permit, to wait an additional period to receive another firearm, was an infringement on the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The Ninth Circuit held that a 10 day waiting period was a reasonable safety precaution. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms. Tench Coxe in `Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution' under the Pseudonym "A Pennsylvanian" in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789 at 2 col. 1. |
