Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald on Wednesday argued Michigan's gun laws "don't require people to secure a deadly weapon" and are insufficient for public safety.
The prosecutor made the remarks and defended her decision to charge a 15-year-old sophomore as an adult in connection with a deadly Nov. 30 shooting rampage at Oxford High School during an interview with Stephen Henderson on WDET-FM (101.9).
McDonald told Henderson that there are "very few" gun laws in Michigan. While guns can't be purchased in the state by those under 18, she said, minors can be with a parent while they make a weapon purchase and children can be with parents to fire guns at a shooting range. |

In the wake of the deadly Oxford school shooting, U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin is planning to introduce legislation in Congress requiring the secure storage of firearms in households where children could reasonably access the weapon.
Gun owners who don't secure their firearms could face up to five years in prison if a child does gain access to the weapon and uses it to cause injury to themselves or others or uses it in a crime, according to a bill summary.
"I really wanted the first bill to come out of this tragedy to be based on the sentiment and wishes of the community ... toward changing the law to support responsible gun ownership and preventing access by children," said Slotkin, a Holly Democrat who represents the Oxford area. |

Today, the U.S. Senate approved the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), the annual, bi-partisan legislation that directs funding for our nations military and national security programs. Thankfully for NRA Members and gun owners across the country, this legislation passed with two anti-gun provisions being struck from the final version. NDAA will now move to the Presidents desk to be signed into law.
As reported last week and following weeks of negotiations, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a revised version of the NDAA. The two anti-gun provisions that were included in an earlier version were removed from the final House-passed bill before being sent over to the U.S. Senate. |

California Gov. Gavin Newsoms latest attempt to restrict gun rights is receiving pushback from Texas lawmakers in what is shaping up to be a juxtaposition of two very different state governments: one that says its state is a sanctuary for the unborn, and one that says its state is a sanctuary for doctors who perform abortions.
After the U.S. Supreme Court refused to enjoin the Texas law allowing private citizens to sue abortionists and those aiding or abetting with an abortion after a heartbeat is detected, Newsom said California would become a sanctuary for abortionists. |

Right now, tight suits reminiscent of the early 1960s are all the fashion. Fashion trends come and go, but ultimately, our own defense should come first. In this article, well discuss some features of professionally attired clothing that enables you to fight more effectively.
Pleated trousers involve extra layers of clothing. This translates into a little more stretch around the waistband ideal for those who work in professional, restrictive clothing every day. Choosing pleated trousers allows you to extend out your gait a bit further than wearing tight skinny trousers. |

Pretending that the world is safe and sane doesnt change the world, nor does it keep our children safe in school. We have to deal with the world as it is, not as we wish it to be. I agree that we dont want violent criminals with guns in our schools, but they go there to kill and get media attention anyway. The question isnt if violent murderers should exist. The question is how we should protect our students from them. Its not a matter of if, its a matter of when. |

Shortly after four Michigan high schoolers were killed by a teenage gunman on November 30, 2021, U.S. Representatives Thomas Massie and Lauren Boebert posted family Christmas cards on Twitter with their kids, some very young, cradling guns. And not sporting rifles or air guns the kids smilingly held assault weapons, with Massie adding the caption, Santa, please send more ammo. |

Dealing drugs didnt mean Donnie Eric Stephen Johnson forfeited his right to shoot in self-defense when he was attacked and robbed of his drugs last year, jurors ruled Wednesday in Frederick Circuit Court.
While acquitting Johnson of the most serious charges he faced, the seven-man, five-woman jury found he acted recklessly in shooting himself and a teenage boy. Johnson faces at least five years imprisonment at his sentencing scheduled for 9 a.m. on March 17. Jurors, who deliberated about three hours, wouldnt comment to The Winchester Star after their verdict. |

Speech and guns: two of the most contentious issues in America today, with controversies fueled not only by personal passions and identity politics but by competing interpretations of the Constitution. Perhaps more than any other parts of the Constitution, the First and Second Amendments inspire religious-like fervor in many Americans, with accordingly irrational results. |

Today, the Ohio Senate Overwhelmingly passed Constitutional Carry legislation, Senate Bill 215, by a 23 to 8 vote. The measure now heads to the house to be scheduled for further consideration.
Senate Bill 215 allows a law-abiding adult who is at least 21 years of age, and legally allowed to possess a firearm, to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have the right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. Additionally, this legislation maintains the existing concealed handgun license system, so citizens who still wish to obtain a permit may do so. |

I wanted to provide you my thoughts related to the discussion at the [Springfield Township] Board of Trustees meeting [Dec. 9]. The Springfield Township residents have been seeking help from township officials for assistance with the ongoing nuisance and safety concerns associated with discharging firearms in the township. Under the current Summit County Ordinance 549.08, residents are permitted to discharge firearms in townships for the purpose of target practice without regulations to distance from their neighbors home. The principal complaints I have received is related to safety and noise resulting from folks shooting in residential areas of Springfield Township. |
