A former police officers gun that was stolen 52 years ago in Bloomfield Township has been returned to his granddaughter after being found in another state.

Police said a Colt .38 was stolen Oct. 10, 1970, from the grandfather of Kristin Vajs. It had been his official duty weapon when he was a member of the Highland Park Police Department in the 1920s and 1930s.

The gun was recently recovered in Lamar County, Alabama, and returned to Vajs in memory of her grandfather, according to Bloomfield Township police.

In a country where the leading cause of gun death is gun suicide, public health experts say a growth in gun ownership is likely to lead to more deaths.

OConnor is a board member for Oregon-based Gun Owners for Responsible Ownership, a group of gun owners, outdoor enthusiasts and veterans formed after a gunman meandered through a Portland mall on Dec. 11, 2012, killing two people, injuring a third and terrifying a mall filled with Christmas shoppers.

Gun manufacturers and gun rights lobbyists have taken a hard line over any type of reform, but OConnor said the true slippery slope the erosion of rights some gun owners fear if gun laws are tightened is for Congress and state legislatures to do nothing.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) removed its stats on defensive gun uses due to pressure from gun-control advocates, according to The Reload.

The advocates whined the stats make it too hard to pass gun control laws.

Defensive gun use is using a firearm to defend ones life, someone elses life, or property.

The Reload published 131 pages of emails about the lobbying campaign that ended with a private meeting.

State Sen. Casey Murdock filed a bill on Thursday that he says would protect the Second Amendment in Oklahoma.

Senate Bill 15 would prohibit state contracts from being made with companies that discriminate against a firearm entity or firearm trade association.

Murdock authored a similar bill in the 2022 session that passed initial committee and floor votes in each chamber but ultimately fell short.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, a former judge who handled felony cases, was in the latter group and focused on the need to instill morality in people, citing Judeo-Christian principles. He went so far as to say it is the bedrock of the nation's founding principles, and that the effectiveness of the Constitution depends on it.

"We gotta get back to teaching there is a right or wrong or, I agree with everybody here, were going to have to get rid of the Second Amendment, were going to have to get rid of Freedom of Speech, were going to have to get rid of freedom of assembly," Gohmert said. "This Constitution wont work the way we are teaching children."

December 15 is now known as "Bill of Rights Day," a day on which we celebrate the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution, which were in place by 1791. However, most freedom-loving Americans that rest on these rights are unaware of the deliberations that went into finalizing the language for what we now know as the Second Amendment. In fact, if it weren't for the persistence of Founding Father James Madison, it might not have been able to stand the test of time and its numerous challenges.

With more than 300,000 votes cast, the race came down to a difference of just over 500 votes, as Boebert prevailed over a challenge from former Aspen City Councilman Adam Frisch (D).

Defense Distributed, a digital firearms company, and the Second Amendment Foundation failed to revive their claims against the New Jersey Attorney General over 3D gun printing restrictions, after the Fifth Circuit Thursday said it lacked the power to hear the dispute.

The claims against New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin, which challenge restrictions on sharing information related to 3D printing of firearms, were transferred outside of the Fifth Circuits jurisdiction, and there isnt anything the court can do about it, Judge Jerry E. Smith said.

It was the third time the lawsuit has worked its way up to the US ...

As Vice President, Joe Biden once said,[If] you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door.

Not the best advice, of course, but Biden has long suggested that a shotgun would be his preferred choice for self-defense.

Biden, who has admitted to owning two shotguns, has also called for a ban on AR-style semi-automatic rifles while describing those firearms as weapons of war.

I do not know what it is about fast-food restaurants in the past year or so, but if you Google something like McDonalds shooting, you will get a very long list.

Brandon Turner attacked a man in a McDonalds parking lot near Cape Canaveral, Florida, and paid for it with his life.

On Sunday evening, Brevard County sheriffs deputies went to the McDonalds in Port St. John following a report that a person had been shot. They found 36-year-old Turner with a gunshot wound in the parking lot, and he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller considered the Second Amendment to be an offshoot of Anglo-American common law. And as such, Heller made clear that the government had the authority to regulate weapons; the right to keep and bear arms was subject to what it referred to as longstanding prohibitions, holding, like most rights the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited.

Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority in Heller, communicated clearly the Second Amendment did not confer a right to carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.

Analogical Reasoning and the Second Amendment

In assessing a modern restriction, "this historical inquiry that courts must conduct will often involve reasoning by analogya commonplace task for any lawyer or judge." A green truck is not relevantly similar to a green hat if the subject is things you can wear . I would add that an antebellum ban on carrying a Bowie knife concealed is not relevantly similar to a current ban on possession of a rifle or magazine. As Bruen instructs, we look at "how and why the [modern and historical] regulations burden a law-abiding citizen's right to armed self-defense." Under that test, a modern requirement to register all guns would not be analogous to a historical requirement that a militiaman must exhibit his musket at muster.

While maybe keeping with the specific language of the Bruen decision, the bill certainly violated the spirit of the decision in such a manner that there is no possibility that it would have survived court challenges. Legislators overreached to such a degree they would have come close to effectively making the entire state a gun free zone had this bill passed. Now they must go back to the drawing board and start over, all while Californias current CCW remains unconstitutional and local authorities are unsure how to proceed.

A former Texas police officer was convicted of manslaughter Thursday for fatally shooting a Black woman through a rear window of her home in 2019, a rare conviction of an officer for killing someone also armed with a gun.

Jurors were also considering a murder charge against Aaron Dean but instead convicted him of manslaughter in the death of Atatiana Jefferson. The conviction comes more than three years after the white Fort Worth officer shot the 28-year-old woman while responding to a call about an open front door.

Police would be banned from stopping guns from being sold or carried in areas where a riot is happening or might take place under legislation passed early Thursday morning during a marathon session by Ohio state lawmakers.

Senate Bill 16, which now goes to Gov. Mike DeWines desk, also would declare gun stores an essential business that cant be shut down by the state during a declaration of emergency.

It further seeks to create new or increased penalties for people who assault police officers or other emergency service responders, menace them by displaying a deadly weapon, or prevent workers or emergency vehicles from responding to an emergency.

Here in the Land of Lincoln, the political leadership has a ravenous, insatiable appetite for gun control while simultaneously coddling violent criminals (see the cash bill abolition law that will take effect January 1).

The legislature is bound and determined to test the limits of the Supreme Courts Bruen ruling and has introduced House Bill 5855 which would not only ban Americans favorite rifle and millions more like it, it would also effectively ban the best-selling self defense handguns and limit magazine capacity.
