"On Dec. 6, 2001, Attorney General John Ashcroft informed the Senate Judiciary Committee, 'To those who scare peace-loving people with phantoms of lost liberty your tactics only aid terrorists, for they erode our national unity and give ammunition to Americas enemies.' Some commentators feared that Ashcrofts statement, which was vetted beforehand by top lawyers at the Justice Department, signaled that this White House would take a far more hostile view towards opponents than did recent presidents. And indeed, some Bush administration policies indicate that Ashcrofts comment was not a mere throwaway line." ...

"Lawlessness usually conjures up images of a wild frontier or mobs in the streets. But the painful reality is that the supreme examples of lawlessness in our times are in the august and sedate chambers of the Supreme Court of the United States."

"If you think the issue in the recent Supreme Court decision upholding campaign finance legislation is whether campaign finance reform is a good idea or a bad idea, then you have already surrendered the far more important and more fundamental idea of Constitutional government."

"There is nothing in the Constitution of the United States which authorizes Congress to regulate what is said by whom, or under what conditions, in a political campaign. On the contrary, the Constitution says plainly, 'Congress shall make no law' -- no law! -- 'abridging the freedom of speech.' "

"The merits or demerits of this particular law, restricting what you can say when, or how much money you can contribute to get your message out, are all beside the point. Just what part of "no law" don't the Supreme Court justices understand?"

"The history of constitutional law is the history of faddish intellectual currents. Neither the language nor purpose of the Constitution regularly defeat foolishness fortified by orthodoxy. Thus, a razor-thin 5-4 majority of the U.S. Supreme Court last week blessed a staggering assault on the First Amendment's protection of 'soft money' speech by political parties, profit and nonprofit corporations, and unions in McConnell vs. Federal Election Commission (Dec. 10, 2003). Time-honored principles celebrating political advocacy and an informed electorate succumbed to voguish myths sermonizing about the alleged evils of money in politics." ...

"What does the NRA have in common with NBC? Not much so far, but the National Rifle Association has been talking in recent days like a media conglomerate."

"Last week, NRA president Wayne LaPierre hinted that the group for gun owners would consider buying a TV or radio station to get its messages across if the Supreme Court upheld new federal restrictions on the financing of political campaigns. A few days later, the justices did just that, supporting regulations that, among other things, forbid last-minute political ads from independent groups like the NRA." ...

SPRINGFIELD -- "Federal law officers were completing a long investigation of firearms violations when they led raids at three businesses on Tuesday morning. By the end of the day, U.S. attorneys had formally charged four people."

"Larry Scott, a spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said about 100 federal and local officers executed search warrants, which were the result of a three-year investigation." ...

The charges listed in this article include:

"federal firearms violations"
"selling guns without a license"

Then there's this one:

"Francis can't legally sell firearms, or work in a business that sells firearms, because he pleaded guilty in 1986 to conspiracy to deal firearms without a license."

Prior conviction based on an anti-Second Amendment statute.

"aiding and abetting Bob Francis"

"operating the shop ...with an expired license"

Etc.

In other words, business as usual for the Gun Nazis -- spending three years investigating to come up with victimless crimes based on anti-Second Amendment statutes upon which their fraudulent organization is built, and prosecuting feverishly with the help of local cops.

"Dramatic videotape from the city of Ramadi 75 miles west of Baghdad showed unarmed supporters of Saddam Hussein being gunned down in semi-darkness as they fled from Americans troops. Eleven of the 18 dead were killed by the Americans in Samarra to the north of Baghdad."

"All the killings came during demonstrations by Sunni Muslims against the American seizure of Saddam, protests that started near Samarra on Monday evening. The first demonstrators blocked roads north of Baghdad when armed men appeared alongside civilians who believed - initially - that US forces had arrested one of Saddam's doubles rather than the ex-dictator of Iraq. But their jubilation turned to fury when the Americans opened fire in Samarra a few hours later." ...

KABA NOTE:

IF this story is true, these Iraqi "protestors" still had it better than the women and children in Waco, Texas had it at the hands of the BATF and the FBI. Here, it sounds like the deceased died quickly. The deaths of most of the slain in Waco -- including little girls -- were agonizing, torturous and prolonged. And not one single government thug from either the BATF or the FBI ever even got reprimanded. In fact, former U.S. attorney general and Terrorist Janet Reno praised their efforts.

-------
At least 100 police from across Sydney have been involved in a manhunt in Redfern after three men allegedly stole guns from security guards during a robbery in a nearby shopping complex.

The guards from an armoured van company are believed to have been picking up money from a business at the Broadway shopping centre when they were confronted by the men, who were wearing black balaclavas.

A police chase ensued and at one stage in the nearby suburb of Chippendale, one of the men pointed a gun at a police officer but did not fire.

The men abandoned their car in nearby Redfern and police cordoned off a large area of the suburb to find them.

Police called off the search after about 30 minutes and are expected to publicly release details of the incident this afternoon.

-------
A former Fort Walton Beach police officer is getting a life prison term for killing his ex-wife outside a day care center as she dropped off their three-year-old daughter.

It was the only possible sentence for Ronald Barnicoat of Niceville, who was convicted last month of first-degree murder. The state had previously decided NOT to seek the death penalty.

Circuit Judge Robert Barron has denied a defense request that Barnicoat serve his sentence in an Oregon prison, so he could be closer to family. He has also rejected a request for a new trial.

Barnicoat is also getting a 25-year sentence for discharging a firearm in the act of committing a felony.

-------
Why the extra 25 years, you ask? Well, you see, murder with a firearm is worse than murder with a butcher knife. We know this is true because the Nanny State says so and judges agree.

PEMBROKE, North Carolina -- A playful game turned deadly on Sunday when a Pembroke man was shot to death by his roommate, according to sheriff's Maj. Randal Patterson.

Patterson said that Brandon Strickland, 17, shot and killed Wade Deese, 24, in the hallway of the mobile home they shared at Deese Mobile Home Park off Old Main Road in Pembroke.

"They were playing around with the gun and pointing it at each other," Patterson said. "Brandon pointed the gun at him and pulled the trigger, not knowing it was loaded."

Patterson said that the two men had been playing with the 9 mm handgun most of the day on Sunday. When Deese walked down the hallway to take a shower, Strickland pointed the gun one last time, pulled the trigger - and it fired.

Patterson said Deese, who was shot once in the back, was pronounced dead at the home. He said the shooting death occurred at about 9:30 p.m.

Sheriff's Detective Lt. Ricky Britt charged Strickland with felony voluntary manslaughter early this morning, Patterson said. Strickland's bail was set at $10,000.

"Guns aren't something you play with," Patterson said. "A firearm of any kind is not a toy that you should play with, regardless of your age."

"The successful gun court program begun this year in Brooklyn will expand soon to Queens and the Bronx, and include almost half of the city's 76 police precincts, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced yesterday."

"Since opening in April, the Brooklyn gun court has expanded to five precincts and produced more and longer jail sentences, and eliminated straight probation for felony gun offenders, officials said."

In case you don't have your New York City Dictionary handy, let's define "felony gun offenders" here: anyone who owns a firearm without the government's permission, and government often refuses to give you permission to own a handgun to defend yourself in your own home. To illustrate, one New York City police officer is on record telling a female citizen of the city to "use a frying pan" to deal with a midnight burglar. So Mayor Bloomberg is just another Gun Thug, like all of his predecessors in the last few decades have been.

-------
Authorities say a man was detained at an airport after a rifle he had checked as luggage accidentally discharged on the tarmac.

Mindy Hamlin, spokeswoman for the Raleigh-Durham International Airport, said a man scheduled to fly to Chicago on American Airlines on Tuesday morning packed away the rifle in a case.

She said he had filled out all of the necessary paperwork declaring the rifle as secure and not loaded. But one bullet remained in the gun as it sat on a luggage cart on the tarmac, she said.

"It hadn't been loaded in the plane," Hamlin said. "It fell over and the bullet accidentally discharged and struck a bag next to it. Fortunately, no one was injured."

The flight was delayed but eventually went on to Chicago, she said.

The man was held while authorities investigated. They determined that no crime was committed and he was eventually released.

Hamlin said the man's name was not released because he wasn't arrested.

Anyone stupid enough to pack a loaded firearm into luggage bound for an airplane is too stupid to own a gun.

GOOD! There is no such thing as an "accidental discharge." This was pure negligence and has put a man in the hospital. That is a violation of someone else's rights and is clearly punishable. This idiot is lucky it's only a misdemeanor.

-------
"A California teenager has been charged by the state Game Commission in connection with a hunting accident that seriously injured at 70-year-old man."

"The 16-year-old boy was taking a rifle off his shoulder in Hanover Township, Beaver County, on Dec. 9 when the gun went off, according to the game commission."

"A bullet from the rifle struck William Vujasin who was standing about 10 feet away and passed through his body, game officials said. He was in serious condition at the Allegheny General Hospital on Tuesday, hospital officials said."

"The boy, who was not identified, was charged with injuring another person while hunting and also hunting without a nonresident license."

"The charges, both misdemeanors, were filed through the Beaver County juvenile division."
