Gun ownership has increased steadily over the decades and is now common. Today, democrat voters want gun-control as much as ever, but we saw the undecided middle and political independents step off the gun-control bandwagon.
Here is why they abandoned the idea of gun-control.

Any parent or guardian who refuses to secure guns in the home, arguing that a locked and unloaded gun denies them quick access to thwart a home invasion or other mortal threat, should be required to implement an alternative strategy. We propose designating an adult in the household to keep vigil just inside the front door every night, a loaded pistol, rifle or shotgun lying across their lap, ready in an instant to blow away those dangerous would-be intruders they fear so much. Parents, of course, could trade off, each taking four-hour shifts sitting guard or alternating night shifts.

Americans have a natural, constitutionally protected right to choose the self-defense tools they deem necessary, whether thats a firearm or some other form of weaponry. Arms, as in to keep and bear arms, meant something broader than just firearms to those who wrote and ratified the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, even if that tends to be forgotten by too many contemporaries. That term encompassed bladed weapons, like knives, swords, hatchets, bayonets, and tomahawks, plus even more primitive, club-like arms that were in use on that era.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that he wished to enact a law granting private individuals the right to sue manufacturers of assault weapons and collect $10,000 for any sale of such a weapon in California.

We already have a law empowering the state attorney general and district attorneys to prosecute selling or buying assault weapons; but last June, the federal district court in San Diego held that law violated the Second Amendment. Eleven days later, the Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals put the district judges order on hold for as long as it takes to hear and decide the state AGs appeal.

Josiah Lippincott, writing for The Federalist, for example, says he tweeted just prior to the Nov. 19 not guilty verdict that "Kyle Rittenhouse did nothing wrong," then Twitter suspended him for 12 hours. Feeling vindicated after the verdict of not guilty on all charges, he tweeted the exact same sentence again and Twitter suspended him for a full week.

In another example of why we must stay ever-vigilant, the annual National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) nearly had a pair of anti-gun provisions included in it. These were omitted from the final, recently approved version thanks to the diligent work of pro-Second Amendment legislators and the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (ILA).

As the country awaits a U.S. Supreme Court decision in a New York state case that may create a federal constitutional right to carry guns outside the home, there are several lessons the nation can draw from the recent acquittal in Wisconsin of Kyle Rittenhouse and the convictions in the murder of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia.

The obvious first lesson is that no one would be dead, maimed or going to prison if the men in these cases had not possessed firearms or had just left their weapons at home. The man Rittenhouse maimed learned that his self-proclaimed constant gun carrying not only did not protect him or others, but simply added him to the victim count when he pointed his gun at Rittenhouse.

Gov. Abbott, despite advocating many poor policies and being a lackluster campaigner, is riding high in the polls. This is because he has focused on immigration and pocketbook issues that are preeminent among voters' concerns. Beto ORourke is saddled with a number of unpopular positions which he took to please the far left. His attempts to pivot away are not selling with the electorate. Time for this paper, which might be accused of having the same problems, to find a new white knight.
