"Made popular a decade ago when NRA president Charlton Heston held up a rifle and uttered a shortened version of the the slogan, 'I will give up my gun when they peel my cold, dead fingers from around it,' these words were first used in 1976 and appear to have originated with the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Since then, words to that effect have become a rallying cry for those defending the Second Amendment."
"Ironically, Heston, though undoubtedly well intentioned, had become the spokesman for an advocacy organization which has worked against gun owner's interests a good deal of the time. ..." ... |

"A fifty-three minute podcast interview with Stephen Halbrook. Over the last three decades, Halbrook has been the greatest legal champion of Second Amendment rights. As a scholar, as an attorney (with a 30 record in the Supreme Court), and as a public advocate, Halbrook has done tremendous work in saving the Second Amendment from nullification, and in putting the courts and the legal academy back on the track of recognizing the right to arms in the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. We talk about the broad scope of Halbrooks career, and about McDonald v. Chicago, in which Halbrook is representing the National Rifle Association as a party 'respondent in support of petitioner.'" |

"It's a rumor that is spreading like wildfire: Secret legislation signed by the president will tax all guns, require owners to be fingerprinted, require that all guns be reported to the IRS, and even bar gun ownership by Americans over 60. 'It's so secret that even gun store owners don't know about it,' one concerned caller told Whispers this week."
"Unlikely as it is that lawmakers could secretly pass anti-gun legislation, stranger things have happened in Washington. So is it true?"
"The best source for this is the National Rifle Association and its crack team at the NRA Institute for Legislative Action. Their determination: It's an old and false rumor." ... |

"Anyone who does not hold an FFL and sells a firearm to someone he doesnt know well is incurring a certain amount of liability. And, a bit of bad judgment could cause trouble not just for the seller, but for the rest of the gun owning community as well. There is no question that individuals have the right to buy, sell, and trade firearms between themselves without government infringement. But there are laws on the books and failing to know and follow them is just asking for trouble. A prudent trader will take into account not only the legal technicalities, but the political environment also." ... |

"In 2005, the [NRA] enacted a law that probably saved the American gun-making industry from bankruptcy. And just this last week, the Supreme Court rejected a constitutional challenge to this landmark legislation, ensuring this law stays on the books to preserve America's culture of lawful firearm ownership."
"For years, opponents of the Second Amendment sought to eliminate gun rights by eliminating guns. Anti-gun groups, working with big-city mayors like Michael Bloomberg of New York City, devised a scheme to rid America of firearms."
"They filed product liability suits, alleging that firearm manufacturers should be held liable for any injury caused by a firearm. And not just a gun made by that particular gun-maker ..." ... |

"Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations."
"Senior defense and intelligence officials said Iranian-backed insurgents intercepted the video feeds by taking advantage of an unprotected communications link in some of the remotely flown planes' systems. Shiite fighters in Iraq used software programs such as SkyGrabber -- available for as little as $25.95 on the Internet -- to regularly capture drone video feeds, according to a person familiar with reports on the matter." ... |

who own firearms and practice with them enough to be considered proficient in their use, most likely choose good weather in which to practice; light conditions are optimal and a good comfort level is maintained. Sure, you can hit that silhouette at 25 ft with both hands the majority of the time with optimal conditions with your favorite handgun. You can also hit that target at 300 yards with your battle rifle ... fine indeed if your attack occurs only during the daylight with no wind and the temperature hovering around 72. How many know how they will perform these tasks when faced with darkness, heavy wind, freezing temperatures or blowing snow? Better yet, how many know how their equipment will perform in less than ideal conditions?" ... |

"So this week, Fontano, 74, put his unloaded .357 Magnum into his waistband and took a walk with his girlfriend."
