Some California gun shops told me gun sales were up by over 400 percent the last several weeks. They estimated 30 to 40 percent of their customers were first time gun buyers. Google says they are probably right.

The Wayne County prosecutor won't be issuing issuing any charges against a pastor who shot a man in his church.

In a statement Friday, Kym Worthy's office said City of God Church pastor Keon Allison acted in self-defense on Oct. 18 when he was confronted by 25-year-old Deante Smith.

"The evidence from several witnesses shows that Mr. Smith forced his way into the church armed with a chunk of brick. Mr. Smith pushed the pastors mother to the ground when he was told that he was no longer welcome at the church," the prosecutor's office said.

The National Party of Gun Control, led by Frau Feinstein (D) of California, aided and abetted by a select few Rino's, recently tried to pass a bill that would ban folks on the no-fly (terrorist) watch list from purchasing a firearm.

Lets take a short look at what's wrong with that notion.

A Macomb Community College trustee said this week holders of concealed weapons permits should be permitted to carry firearms at college facilities.

In a statement released via email, second-term Trustee Frank Cusumano indicated his support for a proposed bill currently in the Michigan Senate that would grant exemptions to concealed permit license holders to carry weapons in what are otherwise considered gun-free zones.

Cusumano cited an attack earlier this fall during which a gunman killed nine people at Unmpua Community College in Oregon.

State governments and local governments that enact or establish antigun laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations must comply with the U.S. Supreme Courts rulings in District of Columbia vs. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 (2008) and McDonald vs. Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010).

They are not allowed to take the rulings of the U.S. Supreme Court lightly; and they are certainly not permitted to ignore the rulings of the high Court in the Heller and McDonald cases out-of-hand.

On December 17 the Los Angeles Times provided details of a 2012 terror plot based on court documents. The plot was not carried out, but the details of it show that an armed citizenry could have thwarted it in its tracks.

Prior to the 1970s, it was common, or at least not regarded with suspicion, for a northern liberal Democrat like John F. Kennedy to be a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

According to Kopel, that all changed when, a a tremendous cultural shift took place among American lites. Suddenly, they viewed private gun ownership with disgust. An example of this attitude can be found in a statement by historian Richard Hofstadter lamenting how Americans cling with pathetic stubbornness to the supposed right to bear arms.

The well-known martial artist and film star was recently named the director of the National Rifle Associations affiliate in California and pledges to fight back for gun rights.

All my life Ive had a profound appreciation for the freedoms that America offers. That includes the right to keep and bear arms, Seagal wrote in an introductory message to the organization. I have a unique perspective on this, given my experience with Eastern cultures and my law enforcement experience. I respect the fact that the Founders of this country strongly believed in, and many people over the years have died for, our freedoms.

Many in the congregation applauded when Father Tom Lynch completed his Sunday homily in which he said that all semi-automatic rifles, commonly described as assault weapons, should be banned, and that the Second Amendment is not divinely inspired.

Enough is enough. We want these semi-automatics, these weapons of mass destruction, taken off the streets of our country, Father Lynch, pastor of St. James Church in Stratford, Conn., told the Register a few days after his Dec. 6 homily, which was recorded and posted on YouTube.

Depriving the public of gear as a way to stop murderers is misguided, puts you at risk and at its core, is a thinly disguised effort to get to zero-round magazinesin the false and dangerous belief that disarming innocent people will finally disarm criminals. Legislators asked me to prepare this list, to help them with the media inquisition they face. The unbiased media never grills the people who want to deny your rights, only those who defend them.

I am a member of the NRA, and strongly defend our Second Amendment right to bear arms.

I also agree that private ownership of military fully automatic weapons and machine guns is a real stretch to the intention of the Second Amendment rights. Also, it would be appropriate to have gun registration at gun shows. And, if a legitimate person is on a No Fly List, he/she should not have a right to guns, However, the federal government needs to purge this list before enforcement because there are people on it erroneously.

The stock market has been flat this year, but one sector has had a notably different experience in 2015.

If youre into gun stocks, then Merry Christmas to you: Smith & Wesson SWHC, -1.07% has more than doubled in market value, while Sturm, Ruger & Co. RGR, +0.46% has jumped two-thirds. Both saw sharp gains last week in the wake of President Obamas speech on terrorism, a good chunk of which was devoted to guns.

The NRA's sky-high drone hypocrisy

But consider: What if a drone bears a weapon as some police departments may some day soon, or as a do-it-yourselfer could rig up?

The government would surely say such a drone must be registered. And the NRA would likely counter that, well, no, a flying gun is still a gun, and therefore immune from regulation.

In fact, we here put the question to NRA chicken-hawk mouthpiece Wayne LaPierre: Do you agree that weaponized drones could be should be registered and regulated, if not banned?

There is not much the government can do about the sort of terrorist threat that President Obama described in his speech on Sunday. It will always be difficult to stop self-radicalized jihadists, operating under no ones instructions, from carrying out attacks on soft targets too scattered and numerous to secure.

The only viable alternative, self-help, is one that Obama seems ideologically incapable of considering. His proposals for new restrictions on firearms move in the opposite direction, based on the assumption that the problem is too many guns in too many hands.

Semantics aside, it was indeed a mass shooting

In writing on the mass shooting 14 dead in my hometown of San Bernardino, California, I never used the word terrorism. To a few this revealed an agenda.

Apparently, Im soft on terrorism, the word whose name I dare not speak.

President Obama, I feel your pain. And your frustration.
Terrorism. Terrorism. Terrorism. There, I said it. And, guess what? It doesnt make what happened in San Bernardino any less a mass shooting. Cmon, every mass shooting is a terrorist act, even if not all have political objectives.

It is important to know that terrorists want to kill us on our own soil a fact known well before 9/11. But the mass shooting part is still the most salient element of this latest outrage.

Its alas old news when the government couples an imposition on liberty with an exercise in futilitysecurity theater, anyone?but its still finding inventive ways to do so in a nifty case that combines the First Amendment, the Second Amendment, and 3D printing.

A federal appeals courts reasoning that a states compelling interest in protecting its citizens Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms outweighs the First Amendment rights of physicians seeking to inquire about their patients firearm ownership is preposterous, attorney Douglas Hallward-Driemeier, of Ropes & Gray in Washington, told me in reaction to the latest opinion from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit in a closely watched case known popularly as Docs v. It's high noon over gun rights in Seattle.

The National Rifle Association and two other gun rights groups squared off in a legal showdown Friday with the city of Seattle over a new tax on weapon and ammunition sales.

The two sides appeared before King County Superior Court Judge Palmer Robinson, with the plaintiffs seeking a ruling in their favor to knock down the tax, the Seattle Times reported.

Robinson said her written decision in the case will come by the end of Tuesday, according to the newspaper.

I support President Barack Obamas proposal to enact common-sense gun regulations in response to the terrorist threat.

Obviously, we should block suspected terrorists from gun purchases. If the name is on a no-fly list, it should also be on a no-buy list. This would require expanding our screening system to include gun shows and online purchases.

If 40 percent of guns are acquired without a background check, as they are now, we might as well not have any background checks at all.
