Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine wanted stricter penalties on gun sales to dangerous felons. What fellow Republicans sent him was law eliminating a duty to retreat before shooting in self-defense.

What's not clear is what the Republican governor does next.

Lawmakers in the Ohio Senate on Friday approved changes to Senate Bill 175, which would eliminate the duty to retreat before shooting in self-defense. The bill passed 18-11 with four Republicans opposing the change.

The Ohio House has passed a controversial change to the states current stand your ground law that eliminates duty to retreat before using force in self-defense.

House Republicans added the stand your ground language Thursday into a last-minute floor amendment to Senate Bill 175, which grants civil immunity to churches and other nonprofits where shootings occur.

The mostly-party line vote passed 52-31.

The attorney for Gaige Grosskreutz, one of the men Rittenhouse is accused of seriously wounding, said the mother of Rittenhouse is trying to profit from tragedies.

If Id been shot and killed playing hide and seek would that new neighbor have been able to just shrug his shoulders while living across the street from my grieving parents? With laws like this, probably yes, she wrote.

I dont want to live in a world where we fear our neighbors so much that we cant freely lose a ball/dog/frisbee or cut through somebodys yard to avoid harassment all things I have done. What yards did you wander into and why? she closed in the last tweet.

Ed.: Clearly, her parents never told her trespassing is a crime. Also, misdemeanor trespassing isn't a crime that implicates SYG.

NY: Gun Groups Take Concealed Carry to the Supreme Court

New York State doesnt recognize a right to carry a handgun in public. To get a concealed-carry permit, applicants must show they have an unusually strong need for self-defense, not just a normal and healthy desire to keep themselves safe. The state also bans the open carry of handguns entirely. Theres a circuit split among the nations courts as to whether such strict restrictions are kosher.

The New York State Pistol and Rifle Association and the National Rifle Association are asking the Supreme Court to step in. And now would be a good time for the Court to better enforce the Second Amendment, a project it began with Heller and McDonald more than a decade ago.

A Wasatch County woman is suing the state to get her gun rights back.

In 2008, Melynda Vincent plead guilty to a federal felony for attempting to negotiate a false check in the amount of $498.12 at a Salt Lake City grocery store, according to the lawsuit.

Since then, Vincent conquered her addiction and forged a new life, getting not only a bachelors degree, but a masters degree, and then another.

New Member of Congress, Second Amendment supporter, and Open Carrier, Lauren Boebert, refuses to back down from the Deep State in Washington D.C. She is going to exercise her Second Amendment rights in D.C. and the Capitol. Now, as a member of the favored few, in Congress, she has rights and privileges most of us do not. She is using her status to fight for the rest of the country, and the Constitution.

Because she is willing to openly exercise her Second Amendment rights, with strong, protected, symbolic speech, Democrat members of the House are working to eliminate those rights. From foxnews.com:

The 2021 Texas legislative session is less than a month away. Please support NRA-ILA as we work with gun owners to STAND YOUR GROUND on your Second Amendment rights at the Capitol in Austin next year!

Next up: House Bill 231 by Rep. Lina Ortega (D-El Paso), which effectively raises the minimum age to purchase certain rifles and shotguns in Texas from 18 to 21; and House Bill 185, mandatory firearms storage legislation sponsored by top Scrooge, Rep. Terry Meza (D-Irving).

Country music star Travis Tritt threw his support to U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, R-Georgia, at a rally at Adventure Outdoors on Friday.

A crowd of about 1,800 attended the rally as Tritt, a Marietta native, sang such hits as Im Gonna Be Somebody and Its a Great Day to Be Alive.

If Loeffler and U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Georgia, lose to Democrats Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff in the January runoff, the Senate turns blue.

Pro-gun county sanctuary proposal stalls again. That was the headline of The Daily Star, referring to the plea of the people, and it is mocking and misleading. What if the story had this headline: Right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution is denied by state and local government officials.

That is exactly what is happening here.

When the first law was proposed, in violation of the Second Amendment of the Constitution, we should have stopped it right then and there.

Imagine youre walking down a dark street towards your home, and suddenly sense that youre being followed by someone. Right after some that, you feel a little movement behind you, and thats where the mind starts freezing, and the heart goes boom boom! Dont feel bad. Its our bodys natural reaction to every uncertain situation were not prepared for.

Unlike some people who have very high thresholds for satisfaction, the boys wish was relatively modest he wanted a Nerf gun. He sat across the table, socially distanced from the man in the red suit and the white beard, leaning forward from his mothers lap. He asked for the gun. And Santa said, No. No guns.

The little boys mother thought Santa hadnt heard correctly and clarified by insisting He wants a Nerf gun. And Santa held the line. No guns.

Tuesday was Bill of Rights Day, December 15, celebrating the ratification of the first 10 amendments to the Constitution. Its a day I commemorate every year, either with a column or a post on my The War on Guns blog, sometimes with unexpected results.

Case in point: Two years ago I invited readers to Have a Contemplative Bill of Rights Day, to reflect on what the document and the rights it articulates mean. I posted a link to it on my Facebook page only to receive notice that it was blocked from others being able to see because it goes against our community standards!

Now how about a voice from the pro-gun group, the pro-hunting faction, the firearms collectors and all gun owners. But let's not forget the bullet reloaders.

Most gun owners are all good shots, and safe gun handlers, for the safety issue, whether self-taught, group taught or grandpa taught, is very important and necessary.

A few own so-called "black rifles," AR types, M-15 types or semi-autos with large capacity box detachable magazines. But some of us, the more fortunate, own War II Grands, whose en-block nondetachable magazines have a capacity of only eight rounds.

Earlier this month, armed protesters showed up at the home of Michigans secretary of state to protest election results showing Joe Biden won Michigan. Polarization in our country has generated extreme thinking and actions. When you couple this with the availability of guns, it makes for potentially volatile situations. The similarities to Germany in the 1930s are concerning. The U.S. protesters usually dont wear brown shirts, more like plaid, but they have the same mission, to intimidate and demand compliance.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives is a federal law enforcement agency that is not well-received among those who fight to protect our Second Amendment rights. And rightfully so. If Democrats had their way, this agency would be expanded and part of the effort to confiscate firearms the Left views as scary looking. To use their lexicon, those assault weapons they rail against on a daily basis. This is the agency that will maintain the gun registries that would serve as the logistical blueprint for gun grabbers.
