"It amazes me how many supposedly intelligent folks continue to parrot the ignorance deliberately being spread by the leftist anti-gun media concerning an accurate and truthful definition of so-called 'assault weapons.' The only legitimate and authorized 'assault weapons' are those used by military and police in America. They have several firing options, the least deadly of which is semi-automatic single trigger pull firing. This is defined as a shot being fired every time the trigger is pulled, and this type of firing option has been available on American firearms since the late 1800s." |

"Human rights organisation have accused the military and Chadians, described as mercenaries, of committing atrocities on the population."
"In October, five presidential guards allegedly gang-raped a woman in a barracks, while in early December, other presidential guards allegedly killed three self-defence volunteers. A few days later, a group of Chadians stabbed an army officer to death."
------- And yet, these same "human rights" organizations routinely advocate the disarmament of the general populace, leaving them at the mercy of armed mercenary thugs. |

"A liquor store owner shot a masked gunman who entered his store Thursday morning, and then the wounded would-be robber turned his own gun on himself, the Berkeley County coroner said."
"Claude Gunnels was opening up for business."
"Gunnels returned from the back of the store to find a man wearing a mask and holding a handgun, Rhoad said."
"The gunman, Charles J. Williams, Jr., demanded money, Rhoad said. Gunnels walked behind the counter and opened the drawer to the cash register, Rhoad said. When Williams turned around to look out the front door, Gunnels grabbed a .38-caliber revolver that was next to the cash register and fired one shot at Williams, Rhoad said." |

"It would make sense to allow the population to take care of its security if the government cannot protect people from crime. For example, the population might be allowed to purchase, keep and carry guns for self-defense. However, these measures will never work in Russia." [Why not?]
"So, ordinary people have to rely on their fists only to repulse attacks of bandits. It is important that now the Criminal Code does not stipulate for any limits of permitted self-defense. This fact may be used as a strong argument against street hooligans - and you will see if they are afraid of the innovation or not."
"RIA Novosti reports, that starting with December 16 the responsibility for exceeding the self-defense limits is cancelled in Russia." |

"The key to teaching kids to defend themselves is how to balance these two impulses."
"The goal, one hopes, is that through teaching self-defense, children will actually increase their capacity for kindness, while at the same time acquiring the tools to protect themselves in an emergency. Because the children will have first-hand experience with physical confrontation in a controlled and supervised atmosphere, they can be taught to empathize with the suffering of others and thereby decrease the likelihood of acting violently."
"Sure, the idea is controversial and unproven, but if we can exchange a few bloody noses and broken bones for a Columbine, I think it's worth looking into." |

"A state report has found that more than 50 Indiana children died from abuse and neglect during the past fiscal year."
"Half of the deaths cited in the report were attributed to either physical abuse, shaken-baby syndrome or abuse asphyxiation."
"Drowning and gun-related incidents each accounted for 10 percent of the deaths."
"The state's Division of Family and Children also investigated more than 60,000 reports of abuse and neglect during the same fiscal year." ...
"Officials say this year's death count is accurate." -------
Hey. Since far more babies are dying by "either physical abuse, shaken-baby syndrome or abuse asphyxiation," maybe those things need to be banned.
Oh. Wait. They are banned. Double ban? |

Fourth story on the page
St. Louis police have arrested a man who was wanted in a shoot-out with an off-duty officer during a holdup on Tuesday.
Police allege that Coleman was one of two masked, armed men who entered the Phillips 66 Mini Mart, Tuesday and announced a holdup. An off-duty St. Louis officer, who was inside the store, identified himself and drew his pistol.
Police said Coleman fired at least one shot. Coleman was wounded, but he and his accomplice fled the store on foot, police said. A second off-duty officer, who had stayed in a car on the lot, also fired at the two fleeing men, as did a store manager.

"He was a suspected murderer shot and killed during a police pursuit on Tuesday. Now, the relatives of Charles Whaley are criticizing the cops for their use of deadly force. Police originally said the suspect pointed a handgun at them. But as we later learned, the suspect was not armed with a weapon."
"At first, a Metro captain told us one of his officers shot Whaley because he pointed a pistol at the officers -- but no weapon was ever discovered. A coroner's inquest will determine whether the use of deadly force was justified."
"The officer who shot the suspect . . . has been placed on paid administrative leave."

"Tomorrow your eyes won't be playing tricks on you if you see gun-toting people shopping in Vermilion's quaint Harbour Town district."
"It may give you the creeps, but it's 'Vermilion Open Carry Shopping Day,' as proclaimed by supporters of a law allowing Ohioans to carry concealed weapons."
"Dan White of Lorain, organizer of this sad and ill-advised stunt, tells potential participants on his Web site, 'Handguns only please. Longarms risk knocking over merchandise and crowding customers. It will be your choice whether to carry your firearm loaded.' "
Ohio doesn't need more people carrying guns in public, along with its certainty of more maiming and killing, accidentally or otherwise. ---

"It's generally legal under current Ohio law to carry a licensed weapon in public as long as it's in plain view. White organized a peaceful 'gun walk' in Lorain in October."
"Newsflash: Its not 'generally legal', it is a fundamental constitutional right in Ohio to carry a firearm openly, and nobody has to license their firearm to do it this weekend so long as they are permitted to own the firearm they bring with them." |

FULL TEXT BELOW
------- Missouri's concealed guns battle has a new twist.
Attorneys for opponents of the law say their computers have crashed. That means they won't be able to meet Friday's deadline to file written arguments with the state Supreme Court.
Supreme Court judges have shown some sympathy, agreeing to delay the deadline until noon next Wednesday.
But the high court says it won't delay oral arguments in the case, which are scheduled for January 22nd.
Until then, the concealed guns law will remain on hold, under a decision by a St. Louis judge that it violates the state constitution.
The law would let most people age 23 and older apply for concealed gun permits from their county sheriffs. |
