For instance at North Mountain Sportsmen's Club, the WITO event includes not only shotgun shooting, but cowboy action shooting and muzzleloaders, archery, canoeing, kayaking, wilderness cooking and crafts. "These classes have been offered all seven years, and they are still very popular," Craft said.
WITO events focus on an endless variety of outdoor skills. Some of these are fly fishing, wild turkey hunting, birdwatching, canoeing, camping, outdoor cooking, and even a taste of history can be included with a pioneer woman skills class which involves building fires with flint and steel, and experiencing life in the 1800's. |

In 1915, Barcias great-grandparents, Frank and Hannah Cady were beheaded by an angry neighbor over a dispute involving the Cadys horses. One of the Cadys children also was killed in the attack, Barcia said, adding another child who would become his grandmother hid under the stairs and avoided death.
When people say, why are you such a strong advocate of the Second Amendment? I say, you just never know.
Barcia urged for a law in Michigan called the Castle Doctrine, which would have allowed homeowners the ability to use force to protect their property. The measure was approved by the House but failed in the Senate. |

Montanas Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today released the following statement critical of a proposed emergency rule by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to require federally licensed firearms retailers to report multiple sales of semi-automatic rifles.
The proposed rule was included in a recent Federal Register and specifically calls for firearm retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days. |

As Wasillas mayor works to make good on a campaign promise to build an outdoor gun range within the city, a property owner near the site wonders what happened to the citys promise to him years ago to build ball fields in exchange for a utility easement needed for the Menard sports complex.
If Id known they were going to put a firing range there, I never in a million years would have given them access to my property, Brad Laybourn said after spending all day Friday at appeal hearings in hopes of stopping the construction of an 18-lane shooting range next to the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is moving to require federally licensed firearms retailers to report multiple sales of modern sporting rifles beginning January 5, 2011.
Specifically, the ATF requirement calls for firearms retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days.
The Washington Post suggests that the reporting mandate would be limited to retailers along the Southwest border; however, the Federal Register Notice does not limit the geographic scope of the reporting requirement. |

Amtrak was required to lift the ban because of a measure added to an appropriations bill in the U.S. Senate in December 2009. |

When Demari DeReu was suspended from Columbia Falls High School for inadvertently bringing an unloaded hunting rifle to school, her case attracted national attention. Her expulsion hearing Monday drew a crowd of about 150 people.
But DeReus is not the first gun-related expulsion hearing trustees in Flathead County have conducted. The Columbia Falls board has heard five cases in the last three years, just a handful of the infractions schools have faced in recent years.
In the last three years, Montana schools have reported 79 violations involving shotguns, rifles, handguns or other firearms, according to the state Office of Public Instruction. |

Bruce Schneier is perhaps the leading critic of...the [TSA].
...
Here's his analysis:
"Exactly two things have made airplane travel safer since 9/11: reinforcing the cockpit door, and convincing passengers they need to fight back. Everything else has been a waste of money. Add screening of checked bags and airport workers and we're done. Take all the rest of the money and spend it on investigation and intelligence."
...
There were already reports by then of potential suicide hijackings. But even in the absence of those reports, it would have been cheap and simple to harden cockpits and to give pilots a few simple weapons for self-defense, such as Tasers as well as guns. |
