"I came across these reasonable comments from Paul Helmke ... president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence:"
"...Concerns for gun violence prevention and public safety should not be categorized as pro-gun versus anti-gun."
"Whats 'anti-gun' about wanting background checks to make sure that those with criminal records arent buying guns legally?"
"Whats 'anti-gun' about restricting bulk sales of handguns, a sure sign that someone wants to sell those guns illegally on the secondary market?"
"Why isnt it 'pro-gun' to want to crack down on the 1 percent of gun dealers who sell 57 percent of the guns that end up being used illegally; or to support more financing for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives?" ... |

"I am extremely pleased that this legislation will now become law. It means that every Ohioan who becomes licensed through the state may carry a firearm to protect themselves and their families. My good friends at the National Rifle Association sent me a letter last week thanking me for being a co-sponsor and for my leadership in getting HB 347 passed. The right to firearm ownership and self defense is a fundamental liberty to which our constitutional right to bear arms is directly linked!" ... |

"I disagree with The Plain Dealer editorial board's view that local governments should be able to impose gun-control ordinances."
"Section 1.04 of the Ohio Constitution guarantees Ohioans' right to bear arms. Why should the residents of big cities like Cleveland and Columbus enjoy this right any less than other Ohioans? Do we expect them to be less law abiding? If so, that's clearly prejudiced and another example of the 'soft bigotry of low expectations.'"

... "The statements by these gentlemen are oxymoronic. What gall these two have claiming their interpretation of home rule has something to do with individual rights, when the general laws they are complaining about, passed by the General Assembly, give individuals more freedom. These two despots lose power, not rights, when our government fulfills its role as a republic."

"THE February shooting death of Winnipeg grocery clerk Edwin Yue during a botched robbery inside his family's store was an 'execution' which must be treated as murder, the Crown said Tuesday."
"But defence lawyers representing accused killer David Edward Cote claim the parole violator should be acquitted because his own life was in danger and he had no choice but to fire his gun."
