... "According to Charles Hanson's book, 'The Northwest Gun' the Plains Indians preferred a smoothbore flintlock 'Tradegun' over rifles. ... According to the book the preferred calibers for their smoothbores were in the 28-gauge and 20-gauge range. And they hunted buffalo and grizzlies on a regular basis."
"Every survivalist should have a shotgun. Nothing is more useful or versatile to bring home meat for the pot. A good used single shot can often be found for under $100 and anyone selling any type of ammunition will carry at least a few sizes and weights of shot shells. For barter purposes in a post collapse economy, a few extra boxes of 12-guage shotgun shells would be a smart investment." ... |

"You shouldn't need a weapon to go hunting for Christmas presents. But anxious shoppers, trying to ensure their own safety could wind up more sorry than safe if they're locked-and-loaded when they head for the shopping mall. The fear some have after the shooting rampage at an Omaha mall is certainly understandable. The potential for an accidental shooting putting them or a fellow shopper in a hospital or early grave seems much more likely than dropping a deranged maniac or mugger." ... |

"An email from Gun Owners of America (GOA) regarding the passage of HR 2640 in the Senate is shown below. IMHO, we, the gun owners of America, were sold down the river by the NRA (National Rifle Association), AGAIN! When are we going to learn that NRA is NOT adequately looking out after us legislatively! Otherwise HR 2640 wouldnt have gotten passed and the NRA would be speaking out against Michael J. Sullivan (Chappaquiddick Kennedys best bud) as Director of the ATF."
"The NRA doesnt speak out (when the GOA, JPFA, and CCRKBA have) because the SOB (Son Of a Bush) appointed (via erstwhile AG, Gonzales) Sullivan as acting Director. The NRA is in the neo-cons (neo-Jacobins) coat pocket (and I will leave that there.) ..." ... |

"The National Rifle Association has done it."
"Again."
"Having advertised itself for more than a century as the nation's foremost defender of the Second Amendment, the NRA has once again given aid and comfort to politicians -- all of the 'usual suspects': Carolyn McCarthy, Charles Schumer, Patrick Leahy, Harry Reid, and that perennial Judas goat John Dingell -- as well as to pressure groups like the Brady Campaign, who are determined to destroy that right, by assisting passage of a law with the potential to strip hundreds of thousands of military veterans of their basic right to own and carry weapons."
"This latest slap in the gun owner's face by the overstuffed suits at the NRA ... establishes the 'principle' that individuals with the slightest of mental health 'problem' (anyone, for instance, who ever sought professional help for mild depression or difficulty sleeping) have no inalienable right to self-defense." ... |

... "The court should uphold the district's law banning handgun possession by its residents for constitutional and public safety reasons."
"The overwhelming historical evidence and weight of judicial precedent support the position that the Second Amendment was intended and designed to protect a militia-based right." ...
"There is also strong scholarship to support the argument that James Madison wrote the amendment primarily to allay Southern fears that Congress would undermine the slave system by disarming the militia thereby denying the Southern states an effective means of slave control. Under this longstanding interpretation of the amendment, the District's handgun ban would survive." |

"The Supreme Court recently agreed to rule on the specific meaning of the Second Amendment ..."
"Many gun-control advocates claim that this grants a 'collective' right ... and does not grant an 'individual' right to gun ownership. The position that the Second Amendment only guarantees a collective right is wholly incorrect, especially when one examines the rest of the Bill of Rights."
"The Founders chose the words 'the people'; the same as in the First, Fourth, Ninth and Tenth amendments."
"Had the drafters wanted to acknowledge the right to keep and bear arms for anyone other than individuals, they would have undoubtedly written that it is the right of 'the militia' to keep and bear arms." |

"Ron Paul is deeply square, and every bit as deeply committed to your right not to be. 'I don't gamble, but I'm the gambler's best friend,' he says, boasting of his support for online casinos. He is a Second Amendment absolutist who doesn't own a gun. 'I've only fired one a couple of times in my life. I've never gotten around to killing anything.' It's an impressively, charmingly principled world view, though sometimes you've got to wonder how much Paul has in common with many of the people who support him." ... |

Still, I suppose that any effort to rein in our noble and courageous stompers of kitties is worthy of support."

"Here is the response from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison in regards to Acting ATF Director Michael J. Sullivan confirmation. Hutchison has a B rating from GOA and has been at the forefront of important Second Amendment issues."
"Senator Hutchison, may not be aware that from 1994-2005 the number of Licensed dealers in Texas dropped 76%. From a whopping 18,041 to a measly 4,261 and the number of license revocations is up nearly 6 times from 2001-06."
"Although I myself voted for Bush twice, I have to seriously question his judgment on choices to run the ATF. First there was Carl Truscott, who continued the Clinton agenda of eliminating gun dealers and manufacturers, violated ethics rules and overspent millions to create an empire."
"Now we have Sullivan who has refused to curb ATF abuse ..." ... |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
NRA has announced that Representatives Steve King and Zach Space, have introduced HR 4900 which is the BATFE Reform and Firearms Modernization Act of 2007.
This is similar to the HR 5092 BATFE Modernization and Reform Act of 2006, our Attorney had spoken before the House Judiciary Committee to report on the abuses of the ATF. HR 5092 received Bi-partisan support and passed, then Anti-gun Senator Dianne Feinstein held it up indefinitely in the Senate, effectively killing it.
Congress and the Department of Justice have rebuked the ATF for failing to establish fines and suspensions for dealers and just revoking dealers licenses. This will also finally establish the meaning of WILLFUL, rather than the ATF using its own definition. |

"Cornyn does hit on an important point in the letter, there are 2 different areas that the ATF enforce. One area is criminal (violent crime, gangs, etc.) and the other area is regulation (ensuring dealers and manufacturers are in compliance)."
"The issue is that Maximum Mike and the ATF seem to be unable to distinguish between the two areas. ..." ... |
