A measure that would expand how and where Floridas more than 1.67 million concealed-weapons license holders can carry handguns may have an easier path through the Senate in 2017 than in the past.
Senate President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, this week sent the bill (SB 140) to three committees, two of which are led by prominent gun-rights supporters. The bill would need to make it through the committees before it could be considered by the full Senate during the 2017 legislative session, which starts in March. |

Ruger announced Wednesday they will produce their well-loved double-action wheelguns in some new offerings including a 5-shot GP100 in .44 Special and an 8-shot .357 Mag Redhawk.
The GP 100, as detailed in the above video, has been around in a bunch of .357/.38 and .327 loadings, but that was about as beefy as it got. Now, some 30 years after its introduction, is being offered in a 5-shot .44 Special with a three-inch barrel. |

Earlier this month, state Sen. Rob Bradley, a Panhandle Republican, proposed SB 128, a bill that would place the burden of proof in Stand Your Ground cases on the person who was shot rather than the person who pulled the trigger.
In other words: If you claim you were "standing your ground," courts would have to take you at your word, and it would be up to the person with a bullet hole in him to prove you weren't defending yourself assuming he's still alive to make the case. That's a massive legal distinction. |

Ideally, such a class would have an experienced and qualified instructor, and would cover the appropriate etiquette for carrying concealed firearms, proper emergency response actions and even some brief firearm history. From both an academic and practical point of view, the class would essentially act as an introduction to gun culture, a topic of study that would be worthwhile for students whether or not they plan on carrying.
In addition, by offering such a class, students would be expanding their understanding of other cultures, as an exploration of gun culture, a pivotal subject in the history of humanity, helps shed light on human behavior on a wide scale, from anthropology to psychology. |

Citizens of Missouri have had the right to bear arms ever since the states first constitution was created in 1820.
On Jan. 1, the Show Me State will add another notch in its gun belt when Senate Bill 656 fully becomes law and Missouri becomes the 11th state to allow citizens to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense without a government-issued permit.
The procedure is widely known as constitutional carry. While the new law will allow carrying a concealed weapon (CCW) without a permit by people age 21 and over, there will still be restrictions regarding where guns are appropriate or allowed and where theyre not. |

Despite this, Black Panther-type agitation is now the norm. Communist agitators protested Smiths death in Milwaukee in August; and armed Black Panthers also held a march in September in St. Louis, inspired by the death of Ferguson activist Darren Seals, who was found with gunshot wounds inside a burning car earlier this year (most likely murdered by a criminal). As for the marchers wielding of weapons, note that open carrying a firearm is not arrestable absent any other violations of the law," as a Milwaukee police spokesman explained.

A push to repeal or delay the states concealed carry handgun policy for college campuses would likely face opposition from Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback.
Brownback said Wednesday that he isnt thinking about possible changes to the policy that was signed into law in 2013.
But incoming state Sen. Barbara Bollier said there is a bill ready to go that would try to repeal the law, which allows handguns on campuses starting July 1. |

Sub. SB 199 will also allow an employee to store a firearm in his or her locked vehicle without fear of employer retribution. Throughout the country, many employers have adopted No Firearms policies that extend beyond the physical workplace to include employee parking lots areas often accessible to the general public and not secure. These misguided policies leave employees to choose between protecting themselves during their commutes and be subject to termination by their employers. The fundamental right to self-defense should not stop simply because employees park their cars in publicly accessible parking lots owned by their employers. |

The man pretended to comply and said he would give the wallet to Edwards, records show.
He reached for his waistband where he had a handgun, quickly removed it and fired two shots at Edwards.
Cannon ran screaming from the parking lot, grabbed the gun beside her boyfriend and allegedly shoved it into his backpack before walking toward the back of the building.
Police found the backpack with a gun inside a fenced area.
Edwards was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives questioned the 25-year-old man who shot him but decided not to arrest him since it appeared to be a case of self-defense. |

An attempted robbery in Aventura, Florida, early Sunday morning left the suspect dead after he was shot by his intended target, an Uber driver with a customer in his car.
Although the driver, 29-year-old Namique Anderson, may face disciplinary action, possibly termination, because he violated the app-based transportation companys strict no-weapons policy, officials with the Aventura Police Department said he will not face charges, as he acted in self-defense. |

We see this same protection in the Second Amendment, whose purpose is not just to protect the right of Americans to hunt and defend themselves from ordinary criminals, but ultimately to protect themselves from a tyrannical government and its enforcers a professional army. As Ninth Circuit Judge Alex Kozinski said in Silveira v. Lockyer in 2002: The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once. |

A bill pre-filed for the 2017 Tennessee legislative session would remove onerous restrictions on the freedom of the press. Currently, reporters are required to get a license from the secretary of state. They must provide a transcript from a regionally accredited university, then take a proficiency test from a state contractor. Following a background check, they are issued a card-carrying reporter's license. Once licensed, reporters are allowed to report from courthouses, libraries and hospitals but must leave their pens, pencils, paper, laptops, etc., in their vehicles.
The bill, the First Amendment Restoration Act of 2017, would remove the training and licensing requirements. |

As the NRA predicted, however, the focus of the treaty is now shifting almost exclusively to the domestic civilian trade in firearms. While we expected this shift all along, the move to undermine and attack the Second Amendment-protected rights of ordinary law-abiding Americans came sooner than we could have imagined.
Never was this clearer than at the Second Conference of States Parties to the ATT. The purpose of this meeting was to assess treaty implementation issues and identify ways to improve compliance by nations that continue to trade in conventional arms. |

For Katie Couric once a broad-smiling, high-profile darling of the big-three-network news set its like dj vu all over again.
Currently the global news anchor for Yahoo, Couric made big news herself earlier this year when she and her creative partner in an independent production company were hit with a $12 million defamation suit. The pair were accused of manipulating footage for a gun control documentary called Under the Gun in a way that Second Amendment supporters who are suing her claim made them appear foolish and ignorant.
Now, even as that lawsuit proceeds, Couric is making news again for the fact that she will be back on network television in a familiar role. |

Wednesday marked the deadline to purchase a semi-automatic rifle with the so-called bullet button feature before a new ban goes into effect on January 1.
With a ten day waiting period to pick up a newly purchased gun in California, December 21 was the last chance to make that purchase. AR-15s and AK-47 rifles with the bullet button feature have been flying out the doors at Tacti-Cool Guns and Gear in Santa Maria. The store has sold at least 200 in the past few weeks. |

Advocates of gun control, also defenders of the Second Amendment, counter with the common sense argument that, no, the only guns that should be controlled are military-style weapons that have the capability of killing a large number of people in a short amount of time.
Ed.: Um, no. No 'defender of the Second Amendment' argues that rifles that cosmetically appear similar to military weapons should be subject to gun controls. |

According to The Washington Post, the Brennan Center of Justice expects the homicide rate for the countrys 30 biggest cities to go up by 14 percent this year. But that increase does not tell the whole story; namely, that the killings in Chicago account for an astounding 43.7 percent of this overall increase in [homicides].
In other words, if year-end numbers do in fact show the anticipated 14 percent jump in homicides nationally, the deaths in Chicago alone will account for nearly half of that increase. |
