The New York Senate proposed that gun owners must have liability insurance. Why are we taxing the people who obey the law to pay for the actions of drug gangs?

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Units preliminary investigation shows that the person who stabbed Ray Adkins on Iowa Street on December 19 may have acted in self-defense.

Metro Homicides investigation does not disprove the persons statement that Adkins was stabbed in self-defense as Adkins attempted to forcibly enter the residence.

A man who shot and killed two people will not face criminal consequences for the deaths.

When they arrived, troopers found two men dead from gunshot wounds. The men were identified as 28-year-old Matthew J. Cortez and 28-year-old Jesse Swift, both from Cave Junction.

You can find just about any kind of restaurant imaginable in our nations capital, but what you wont find, no matter how hard you look, is a gun store. D.C. residents who want to buy guns, like Tracey and Andrew Hanson, have to leave the district to get them. D.C. law specifically allows residents to buy firearms from outside the District.

Senate Bill 5, sponsored by Senator David Sater (R-29), would modify and create new provisions relating to the initiative and referendum process.

Senate Bill 39, sponsored by Senator Bob Onder (R-2), would remove the prohibition on law-abiding citizens carrying firearms for self-defense on public transit. In addition, it would also allow law-abiding citizens to transport unloaded or non-functioning firearms on buses.

House Bill 82, sponsored by Representative Justin Hill (R-108), would ensure that gun owners may store firearms in their private vehicles when parked in any parking lot.

The story reminds me of grand jury verdicts in the Old West when two men got into a shootout. Very often, juries would return a verdict of not guilty, by reason of self-defense. Very often, alcohol was involved. In this case, as often happens in gunfights, both parties were seriously wounded. People should avoid gunfights if they can. Maybe Demontae Walker could have avoided this fight. It is not clear. He had a legitimate reason to be where he was. He had his wife's cousin to worry about.

It appears alcohol clouded the officer's judgment. Officer Rios could almost certainly have avoided the gunfight. Officer Rios was almost killed but had a complete recovery. His career is in doubt.

Although election results are still coming in as I write this, the overall picture of the 2018 midterm elections has emerged. Democrats made substantial though not historic gains in the U.S. House, retaking a majority and likely handing the speakership to Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). Democrats also picked up a handful of governorships across the map, with statehouses now about evenly divided between red and blue. At the same time, the U.S. Senates pro-gun majority not only held but grew.

Many gun owners across Oklahoma aren't too happy after President Trump announced a ban on bump stocks this week.

That device was used in the Las Vegas shooting massacre last year and basically makes a rifle work like a machine gun.

Anyone who owns a bump stock now has to destroy or surrender their device to the federal government by March 21.

When people talk about limitations on the right to freedom of speech, they often point to the fact that you cant yell Fire! in a crowded theaterunless there is a fire, of course.

While the right to a free press is broad, the media can be prohibited from publishing or broadcasting something that would lead to violent or illegal action. There are countless Supreme Court rulings spanning more than two centuries that speak to these rights, and they have helped to refine and define the protections enshrined in the First Amendment.

But what about the Second Amendment?

Under the National Firearms Act and the Gun Control Act, machine guns are tightly regulated, and no new machine guns can be added to the existing pool of legally transferable machine guns. The BATFE has promulgated at the president's instructions, and with the agreement of the NRA new regulations clarifying the terms single function of the trigger and automatic as they relate to the definition of machine gun under these laws. The effect of these clarifications is to support their declaration that bump-stock-type devices convert semi-automatic firearms into full-automatic firearms, thus making the devices themselves machine guns and subject to the restrictions outlined in the NFA and GCA.
