Sierra Bullets was founded by three aircraft machinists in California in 1947, right at whats considered to be the beginning of the golden age of handloading. During the next 40 years, Sierra Bullets became one of Americas premier bullet manufacturers. In the late 1980s, the company moved from California to Sedalia, MO. Sierra currently manufactures a wide assortment of bullets, and it also offers one of the best technical-assistance telephone services of any company, in or outside the firearm industry. What some shooters do not know is that in 2019, Sierra began manufacturing ammunition.

How to Zero a Red Dot

It took a few decades for red dot optics to catch on after they were introduced in the 1970s. But in recent years, hunters and sport shooters have adopted them for everything from turkey hunting to competition shooting to self-defense, and even inexpensive models are useful and reliable.

Red dots are great once theyre sighted in, but that process can be frustrating for new shooters. The lack of magnification makes it difficult to aim precisely, and the turret adjustments arent always, shall we say, exactly accurate. The good news is that once you get the hang of it, zeroing a red dot is a simple process as long as you keep a few things in mind.

Gun violence legislation is a topic dividing members of Congress, but Senator Angus King of Maine was trying to bridge the gap on Thursday by introducing new legislation.

In introducing the Gas-Operated Semi-Automatic Firearms Exclusion Act, or GOSAFE, King said, What the bill does is limit the most lethal piece of assault weapons which is the high capacity magazines.

However, he said the act doesnt change the Second Amendment right to protect yourself it just puts some guardrails on it.

Ed.: Banning the most popular rifles in America is hardly 'bridging the gap'.

The argument that no law will stop all gun violence is not a serious argument. Murder has been illegal for 5,000 years, but still occurs. However, we do not repeal laws prohibiting murder just because they arent 100% effective.

There are ways guns could be regulated to keep them out of the hands of people prone to violence, while allowing responsible gun ownership. For example, it is possible to manufacture guns which can only be used only by the owner. Insurance and a license could be required of anyone taking a gun off his or her land, much like with automobiles.

Im going to look at every possible option to think about how it will, how it could be used in Maine, if at all, said Gov. Mills, in an interview with News Center Maine.

On Dec. 13, President Joe Bidens (D) newly established White House Office on Gun Violence Prevention hosted nearly 100 Democrat lawmakers from 39 states to encourage them to pass more-restrictive firearms laws.

The agenda is not comprehensive, but highlights actions that states can take to achieve meaningful progress in the next year, claims an eight-page brochure titled the Safer States Agenda.

In the months ahead, the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention will work with states to make sure they have the resources needed to advance this life-saving agenda, says the brochure.

The House Agriculture, Conservation and Resiliency Subcommittee voted 12-4 to approve the measure (HB 87). Sponsor Jason Shoaf, R-Port St. Joe, said the proposal wouldnt allow bear hunting.

Andrew Mahaleris, a spokesman for the governor, reiterated that Abbott has requested an expedited review, and he looks forward to reviewing the Boards recommendation when it reaches his desk. Neither spokesperson gave a timeframe.

Perrys lawyer Doug OConnell said he hadnt anticipated an end-of-year pardon because the Board has yet to interview key witnesses that will establish Daniel Perry's wrongful conviction.

I dont take this as a bad sign at all, he said.

Abbott cannot pardon someone unless the board issues a recommendation, but he appoints all of its members and can choose to fire them at any time.

U.S. District Court Judge Cormac Carney issued a preliminary injunction on Wednesday, blocking California Senate Bill 2, which would have banned carrying concealed firearms in most public places, ruling that the law set to go into effect January 1st, violates the Second Amendment and deprives legal gun owners of their ability to defend themselves.

The soon-to-be California law would have made concealed weapons illegal in most public places in the state, even if they were held by those with concealed carry permits.

A new study reveals donations to the National Rifle Association have consistently surged in counties where school shootings have happened.

The research study for Science Advances published on Wednesday found that following a school shooting, total NRA donation money increases by 30% on average, while the number of NRA donors spikes by 40% in the counties hit by tragedy.

It isnt too surprising that peoples interest in safeguarding that ability to protect themselves and their families increases when there is more of a threat, Crime Prevention Research Center President John Lott told the Washington Examiner. Giving to the NRA seems like an obvious way to help protect that ability.

No citizen goes to the mall to become a pawn of a prank, Snow said. Cook self-selected Colie as his target. It was an unusual breach of social behavior.

Snow added that Colie was not an inherent danger to the public but a danger to a person who chose to harass him.

In September, a jury found Colie not guilty of the most serious charge of aggravated malicious wounding. However, jurors handed him a guilty verdict for unlawful discharge of a weapon in an occupied building. A judge denied a motion to throw out the guilty verdict back in October.

Lockwood said that, across both trials, the defense argument largely stayed the same that Chandler had acted in self-defense.

Alaska Statute, he said, says a defendant is justified in using deadly force as a method of self-defense when they believe that such force is necessary against imminent robbery, death, serious physical injury, kidnapping, first- and second-degree sexual assault or first-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

There are more than 1 million registered weapons in the Czech Republic, according to 2022 police data. The Czech Republic has the constitutional right to bear arms and allows citizens to carry concealed weapons for self-defense, though the process for actually obtaining a weapon involves multiple steps.

Some of the standards to obtain a gun license vary. Everyone has to undergo a background and health check, though police can opt to take someones weapon away if they appear to have mental health problems. (That law was passed after the 2015 mass shooting. The gunman had shown signs of mental health issues prior.)

Firearms Defense Against Bear Attacks in National Parks is Legal

This claim was recently repeated at Cowboy State Daily, embellished somewhat:

Sorry, but if youre attacked by a grizzly in Yellowstone, it is against the law for you to shoot it. Reaching for bear spray could be your best legal option as you cant even point a firearm at wildlife there.

Both of these claims are incorrect. There is no prohibition on shooting guns in self-defense in national parks. The key, of course, is the firearm has to have been shot in self-defense. Because grizzly bears are a protected species both inside and outside national parks in the lower 48 states, the requirements for claiming self-defense against a grizzly bear are the same inside of Yellowstone National Park and outside the park...

U.S. District Judge Cormac Carney granted a preliminary injunction blocking the law, which he wrote was sweeping, repugnant to the Second Amendment, and openly defiant of the Supreme Court.

The court case against the law will proceed while the law is blocked. The judge wrote that gun rights groups are likely to succeed in proving it unconstitutional, meaning it would be permanently overturned.

The decision is a victory for the California Rifle and Pistol Association, which sued to block the law.

U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) joined Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) in introducing the Protect American Gun Exporters Act. This bill comes in response to the Bureau of Industry and Securitys (BIS) recent 90-day pause on the issuance of new export licenses for firearms, ammunition and component parts to non-governmental users in most foreign countries. This legislation would protect the people of Wyomings Second Amendment rights, which are constantly under attack by the Biden administration.

A Fifth Circuit panel in February ruled that a law banning people subject to domestic violence restraining orders from owning guns is unconstitutional. Judge Cory Wilson, a Trump appointee, wrote the majority opinion, joined by fellow Trump appointee James Ho and Edith Jones, nominated by Ronald Reagan.

Wilson wrote that, under the US Supreme Courts decision in in N.Y. State Rifle & Pistol Assn Inc. v. Bruen, which called for courts to weigh both the text of the Second Amendment and the countrys history, the restriction on those accused of domestic abuse isnt consistent with the countrys historical tradition of firearm regulation.
