"Last week, the United States Justice Department publicly released a long document, signed by three deputy assistant attorneys general, spelling out in great detail the linguistic, historical, and case-law reasons why it officially considers the right to own guns an individual one, just like the rights protected by the First Amendment..." ...

"It's undeniable down the line: Guns add enormous tragedy and regret to the worldas well as a fair amount of protection from the tragedies and regrets others might impose. They also provide, for many, opportunities to try out an interesting and rewarding skilland for many others an opportunity for political posturing and sociological pigeonholing and rhetorical policy warfare."

These advocates continually push for more restrictions on firearm purchases in vain attempts to keep guns from criminals and others who shouldnt have access to them." ...

"The problem with such laws is that criminals routinely ignore them (after all, they are criminals). ..." ...

"The Justice Departments interviews also gave lie to the notion that so-called assault weapons in private hands decrease the safety of police officers and citizens. ..."

"And so another gun-control myth ends up on the ash heap of history."

"With no conclusive relationship between civilian disarmament and murder rates, the onus of proving that law-abiding gun owners represent a threat to public health and safety rests firmly with the SF supervisors. Unless, of course, they intend to force a legal system upon residents that presumes guilt."

"Internationally, the US compares even more favorably, rated 24th overall in murder rate. All countries with higher rates have far more gun control; they have no Constitutional right to own guns, and self-defense is not a valid reason for ownership."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Anti-violence advocates say Minnesota's computerized records of court and crime information have flaws that could allow domestic abusers to buy guns without raising alarm.

Under state law convicted domestic abusers are barred from buying guns.

The concerns are being raised by two groups, a battered women's justice project and one that supports handgun controls. They say the state's CriMNet network has complete records for less than a third of misdemeanor domestic assault convictions between May 2002 and April 2003.

The advocates say they don't know if the convicted abusers actually bought guns -- but they say the information gaps could let it happen.

Post-season gun care will make your gun last for countless seasons

"Proper care, especially after a long hunting season, is necessary to ensure that they will give top performance for a long time to come. This involves a lot more than wiping them down with an oily rag and putting them in the closet or cabinet and intending to give them proper cleaning someday. But we all know what infamous road is 'paved with good intentions' and many people never get around to giving their gun a good cleaning.
Cleaning and gun care do not require a tremendous amount of time or any special skills or rocket science. A little time spent with the right equipment and lubricants will work wonders. Too many guns go to the repair shop simply because of dirt buildup in their actions.
Severe rust can build up in the barrel and action and affect the accuracy or even the functioning of the gun. Excess oil, powder buildup, or dust and crud from the woods can gum up the action of a gun. In all cases a little care throughout the season, or especially after the hunting season, can go a long way towards preventing bigger problems later."
