According to police, two citizens helped catch a bank robber Wednesday in Harlan.

When police arrived at the Home Federal Bank, two citizens were holding the suspect at gunpoint.

Daniel L. Stines, 60, of Loyall was arrested and now faces several charges.

After Stines was taken into custody, a handgun and what appeared to be an explosive device was discovered.

A state police bomb unit was called in to dispose of the device.

No one was injured.

"A San Juan County sheriff's deputy accidentally shot himself in the hand while cleaning a pistol at his Aztec home, authorities said."

"Officials said Rob Gross was unloading the handgun Wednesday when it discharged. The bullet entered his left hand."

"Gross underwent surgery at San Juan Regional Medical Center for damage to a knuckle bone. Sheriff's Captain Tim Black said such an injury to an officer is rare, since officers handle weapons every day."

Two state Highway Patrol officers accused of crimes have been targeted to be fired as part of Gov. Phil Bredesen�s housecleaning at the THP, state officials announced this afternoon.

The two officers are Sgt. Gregory Badacour of the state�s Capitol Police force, who told Metro Police last year that he had filmed several couples having sex in public without the couples� consent, and THP Trooper Angelinette Crawford, who was accused of shooting and wounding her brother during an argument. Both officers are from Nashville.

The TSA is trying to figure out how a passenger flew into Phoenix Tuesday with a 9 millimeter handgun.

The TSA confirms a man somehow made it through a security checkpoint in Portland. He was carrying an unloaded 9 millimeter handgun. It wasn't until he made it to Phoenix that screeners finally discovered the firearm.

At this time it's unclear who discovered that he had the gun or if he told authorities that he did.

Two Romanian television stations have been fined for showing a man dressed as a gun-toting Santa Claus.


The stations (Antena 1 and National) were fined $1,700 for airing a publicity stunt by a local gun maker that showed "Santa" giving journalists submachine guns to test fire.

Ralu Filip, who heads the broadcast regulatory authority,said "children could understand from this that Santa is legitimizing the use of guns."
